New for 2014 we are running an Individual Time Trail (ITT) championship
When: Sunday 7th December 2014. Sign on from 7am, ITT'ing from 8am
Where: This will be run using ATTA's monthly time trial at Calga which is located at Peats Ridge
Distance: 25k
Price: $25 for licensed riders; $ 30 for unlicensed (inc. sportif ; enduro and audax) – according to CA/NSW regs ....; $15 juniors (under 18)
License: Silver license OK, you do not need a race license
How the championship works: ATTA have a handicap calculation based on your age and gender and publish this with the results. We will rank the results based on ATTA's handicap system. An example of the results is here, the handicap is the column "standard time", which shows a figure as +ve time or -ve time as the differential from ATTA's age/gender timings. But no need to indulged with a lot of boring maths, I'll be doing that to publish the DHBC results.
More important than a championship: Is that its about having some fun, its also a great opportunity for those who are yet to race as you don't need a race license and you don't ride near other riders
Equipment: Your standard road bike will be fine. There's no need to get a whole bunch of equipment, simply ride the bike you already have
Pie in the Sky: As you are aware, a cultural component of cycling is the coffee shop afterwards, for this event we will use Pie in the Sky
PB challenge: For those who have previously done an ITT at Calga, in addition to the handicap championship above, we have a challenge to see who can beat there personal best by the most
Any questions, drop a post here

Hi Mike
Timing could be better!! This is slam bang in the middle of the silly season. While it is a great prerogative - and thanks for getting it together, we perhaps should be running this in the middle of the road season near the TTT around June/July??
Good luck!

I've updated the pricing in the original post;
$25 race license
$30 silver license
$15 juniors
Taken the suggestion of June/July on board as potential dates for 2015 champs, if this year is popular

I haven't done this (or ridden there) before so excuse my ignorance, but is this an 'out & back TT?
Cheers,
Steve.

We just show up and register on the morning
I've heard a lot about this course but never done it.
For newbies like me, an elevation map can be viewed here: http://www.atta.asn.au/maps/calga.html#dh

It's the 25k course. If feels flatter than it looks on the profile, the hills are more like false except for the bigger hill you can as a downhill on the way out, uphill on the way back, that's a real hillI've heard a lot about this course but never done it.

1/ what do you mean 'we are running' ? ie is the Club actually running the event , providing the sign on desk , timing chips etc ?New for 2014 we are running an Individual Time Trail (ITT) championship
Any questions, drop a post here
2/ is this a sterile road event ? if not will there be vollies/safety marshals at potential pinch points?
3/ how long does it extends until ? Assuming most people in the link were doing it under hour and starts are 1 minute apart, how many DHBC riders are expected ? 50? would the event effectively be 8am - 10am ?
4/ which leads to the next question ; is this a DHBC event or a normal ATTA event with other riders some the added bonus of DHBC doing rankings internally ?
5/ and the most important question ; What time is Pie ?

1. We are running the championship using ATTA facilities. ATTA will be doing all marshaling and timing.
2. I think you are asking me about safety. The road is not closed but doesn't get a lot of traffic. Its out and back with a marshal on the turnaround point who will stop the car is there is one. I've been there about 6 times and are yet to strike an issue with a fossil powered device.
3. First rider is out at 8am and are staggered at 1 minute intervals last rider is out at 10am but usually earlier. Time slot is allocated when you sign up, you can take the earliest available or a later one. If you need to be finished early, then turn up early. How many DHBC riders?, please start a list. If we get enough then ATTA will provide us a 9am block spot.
4. Its a normal ATTA event, however ATTA will provide a DHBC printout which we can take to Pie in Sky and use for awards. Only DHBC riders are elgible for the DHBC championship
5. I'm guessing we will arrive at Pie in the Sky at about 10.30 [but I haven't taken my socks and shoes off to do the maths]

I'm a 10% chance. Xmas party the night before and a close friend who's an influential party animal has just confirmed attendance...
Looking like another week of showers and storms so I'm going to base my decision on the forecast on the day. If it looks like it'll be crummy in the afternoon, I'll head to Waterfall. If it's crummy in the morning, TT. And if it's crummy start to finish, Civilization V and maybe the trainer if I can stand to look at the damned thing.

OK so nuts to Waterfall, now I need to find a backup afternoon plan.
Civ V sounds like a good backup plan for everything. And if it's crummy start to finish, Civilization V and maybe the trainer if I can stand to look at the damned thing.
Back on topic, would have loved to have a crack against the DHBC clock but I have two Xmas parties on the Friday night, a hangover to nurse on the Saturday, and a wife to placate on the Sunday.
Maybe in the new year I could be persuaded to try?

The weather has gone dicey and the time slot isn't working for many, so I'm cancelling. We can work out something better for 2015
Looks like I was the only DHBC rider there today, I did a PB by 18 secs. (41:59). Conditions were very humid by the time I set off at 9.15. Struggle street on the way out but saved it coming back
Since a PB results in a free entry the following month, I will be going back in Jan to do it all again. The 25km course is $25 - $1 per km to smash yourself - I must be crazy.
Amy.

Weather turned out pretty good for it. Mike sent me a text the night before saying it was off, so I took his word for it. Would of liked to do it still, as this race is my regular.
Congrats Amy on your PB. I'll be down in January, my ride should be fixed by then too.
