Tubular tyres

So i got a flat this morning...
i've had a horror year with flats, but i was stuck with this one. and with $3.40 gone from my wallet, i ended up on the train to work.

I punctured a tubular.
ummm ya, so what now. I need to rip the old one off, buy a new tyre, and glue it on?

any recommendations on tyres and glues? i do like the Vittoria Competition Rally ones i have, but would gator skins work well?

it's for use on an old mavic cosmic, mostly for my vintage bike. so i want something that will look good, and not puncture (often) and racing performance is not high priority.
