Team Time Trials - 19th July 2014 at Nowra
The Team Time Trials are coming round quickly and it's time to start getting teams together. Last year DHBC fielded 9 Masters teams and there was a hot contest between teams to get the fastest time overall.
It was also the first racing experience for a number in the club.
So, what's involved?
You need a team of four fairly evenly matched riders. If you are male and want to go in the 150+ category you need to form a team where the 3 youngest blokes add up to 150 years (someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that.)
The time that counts is that of the 3rd rider over the line. No point riding off the front because you've just made your 2nd and 3rd riders slower. And you need to keep your 4th rider in the race as long as possible, just in case one of the front 3 has a mechanical or just blows up. There is no I in team is a truism in TTTs.
That said, it's a great bonding experience and great club day out. Last year we were one of the best represented clubs. For diehards, there is a handicap road race the next day. I'm doing that again and I'll be building on previous years' experiences where I came 2nd last, to somewhere near last. This time I'll be aiming not to get dropped in the first 5 kms.
So, size up your riding colleagues. Try and get a team together and remember that there's some teams you really want to try and beat.

That last post from Lindsay should be spun off into a caption competition.
I'm keen to do this Nowra weekend away again this year.
Don't assume that a 150+ team is going to be significantly slower. The old blokes are the ones with all the money to splash on superlight bikes and flashy wheels.
Much more interesting than than the TTT was the race on the following day (Nowra to Sassafras).
I recall the howling winds, and riding with some older guys from Nowra on steel bikes who were really fit and very friendly.
That was my first road race and I learned a lot.

After 2 false starts the last 2 years I'll be in for this, and looking for a team. I've got aero gear but not a TT specific bike.

Time trial, road race then back to Sydney for High On Fire - woo hoo!
I'd like a team for the TTT and also plan to race the road race the next day. I have no TT gear or 'race wheels' but I figure its more about the team than looking the part . There's a few masters women this year so maybe we can have 2 teams, at least I can participate this year after a couple of years out.

I'm assembling 2 masters men's teams. I've put some feelers out, at this stage I have 4 confirmed riders:
Josh L
James R
Andrew M
Simon B
Am looking for 4 more riders. I've asked 2 others and am waiting for a reply. Haven't thought about how to split the two teams yet, that will come after we have the 8 confirmed.

So far in Masters Women we have:
1. Jo S
2. Jo T
3. Eleri
4. Michele P
5. Amy
Can we persuade another 3 to also have 2 teams? Jacqui? Bec? Michele W? Ali G? Tam? Laura G?

Simon, I'd be interested. My last TTT effort at Nowra should not be taken as a guide of my ability.I'm assembling 2 masters men's teams. I've put some feelers out, at this stage I have 4 confirmed riders:

Maybe one way of splitting the teams is to record elapsed time for 5 laps of Centennial Park. There's a strava segment for that to avoid any cheating.

Camilla is in Greece unfortunately (or fortunately if you're Camilla)...
The Valley Wheelers ran 3 teams last year. I believe we might be up for 4 this year.
Our fast team (we are all 'fast' but to varying degrees) will be:
1. Alister Simington - M5?
2. Peter Bownes - M4
3. Marc Rerceretnam - M5
4. John Caley - M5?
Not sure if we can make up the 150 year target this year.

Ideally we want to be of similar performance in the same team. Not always possible.Maybe one way of splitting the teams is to record elapsed time for 5 laps of Centennial Park
A better gauge of performance is to come out to ATTA at Calga on 4th of May and do the 25k ITT
Our team from last year has re-confirmed - we'll be in the +150 group this year:
- Shaun Kinna
- Tom Hartley
- Matthew Nott
- Craig Weller
Also, as mentoed on an earlier post I have a Zipp 808 tubular (3 tubs included) front wheel for sale. Guaranteed to improve your TT times!!

Simon, James and i are working on matching up male riders of similar speed.
Adam, Rob and any others, could you please PM me your email address, age as at 31/12/2014 and a description of your racing.
Hopefully we can get even teams, which makes it more fun

The Carbon Cranks men's masters team will once again be leaving it all out on the road in an attempt to beat the masters women ... let the trash talking begin.
Featuring:
Cameron - 'the engine'
Dougie - 'unleashing the furry'
Adam - 'yes I will buy a new shifter before July'
Stuart - 'the weakest link'
The Carbon Cranks looking totally pro at the start of the 2013 edition

Thanks adam and rob the ox. I've put you down on the list.
If you can email (private message) mike your details, we can then take organisational discussions off line.
Cheers!

Looking at fielding 4 masters teams, however we have an uneven number of riders.
If there are any other male master riders that are interested, could you please PM me your email address

I'd be interested in this depending on whether I can get a leave pass from the Boss, and I don't mean Bruce Springsteen. My level would be fast middies based on Waterfall ride experience, maybe fasties on a good day.

Is there any interest for another masters team?
Jonathan and I are keen to go. With our combined experience of time trial racing we could be called...enthusiastic
So are there any other takers?

Paul has a sore bottom, so the 150+ team is down one rider. The current team consists of Fasties and Middies.
Minimum age is 44 as at 31/12/14 as the current youngest rider in the team is 53

Highly recommend that those who don't have a skin suit get one.
A short sleeve skin suit is great for crits, when I raced in the NSW master crit champs almost 50% of the riders was wearing one and its cheaper than buying a set

I'd like to help but I am a good C28 rider. Even though i have a OGE bike ( see giro results overnight) i would not be much assistance to middies - fasties pacePaul has a sore bottom, so the 150+ team is down one rider. The current team consists of Fasties and Middies.

I'm about as strong as Paul and Philip so maybe some team shuffling would make sense. Although really you want the young one to be fast.

Stolen from another forum
So get your skinsuit orders in, closes in 3 daysD = 1/2 . P . V^2 . S . Cd
Where:
D = Drag (Newtons)
P = air density (approx 1.225 kg / m^3 at sea level)
V = velocity (m/2)
S = Area (m^2) usually frontal or plan area depending on the convention for the particular fluid dynamics field and application in question.
Cd = coefficient of drag.
From this we see that drag is proportional to speed squared so doubling speed gives 4 time the drag force.
...
The drag increase from 20 kmph to 40 kmph is 400%

ha ha, that's still a big figure.
I've seen data that shows that a slow rider gets a slightly greater gain out off an aerodynamic improvement than a fast rider

Calga is on tomorrow, and Michael's team is going to use Calga as a trial run for the teams in Norwa.
My team will have only two people who are keen for going tomorrow to Calga. If you have a trial run with us, please PM me we'll organise something, otherwise we'll just have a solo session.

It was a great morning out at Calga, Mark, Amy, Philip, Andrew and I were greeted by dry roads, no rain clouds above, and even a bit of sunshine.
Amy did the 25k ITT and set a PB. Amy continues to show the best form of her life. Her reward is that next month Calga is free.
Mark, Philip, Andrew and I went as a team for the 43k route. It was Andrew's first visit to Calga and none of us had done the 43k route, though I had done a bit of it when I podium'ed in the 2011 ITT champs. We learn't a lot about our teams strengths and challenges.
We finished the morning off with a coffee and pie at 'pie in the sky'. An excellent way to finish off a great day

Don't forget to register for this event. Only one person needs to enter and they will become the team captain.
Entry Instructions
Team Captain Enters once for the whole team
Enters the names AND licence numbers of team members in the fields provided
Team Captain then pays the team entry fee

Still looking for a team?
Anyone who still wants to race and hasn't got a team, please put your name here on this thread and say what sort of rider you are (i.e. comfortable C28s to Waterfall or something). Don't be deterred by the fact that you aren't riding with the fasts or the middies - you don't have to. Why! Last year one of the DHBC teams took last place! We fielded 9 teams last year and I think will exceed that this year. It's a great first race. Plan to stay around for a big chunk of the day, take warm clothes and cheer your club mates on. And we can use it as an informal intra-club contest. It's going to be great!

Hi guys,
My team has only three guys in it at the moment as Adam West has been ruled out injured. We've been struggling to find his replacement, if anyone is interested please send me a PM or reply on this thread. There is no age limit on this 4th person.
Thanks,
Jonathan Wong

Something the 3 teams of 'Valley Wheeler' retro racers don't take into account. Real racers don't need aero

Well it looks like the other team should buy themselves helmets
Looks great. Only the sound of your own belaboured and strident breathing for 30 hard kilometres to accompany your thoughts.Well it looks like the other team should buy themselves helmets
Have you ever sneezed in one of these helmets on a cold winter day? You can't see anything for about 10 minutes, so don't lock the visor down and make sure you can get it up with gloves on (the visor...).
I wouldn't buy a full face one. Too dangerous in a TT.

Must be someone who wants to have some fun with Jonathon and company
Also if anyone who doesn't have a race license, ie has a silver license wants to put a team together, there's an event for you

"The Germinators" had a good solid session in the park this morning. An ambitious target of 1hr was bounced around as the time to aim for. If all the team members recover from various colds and flus they have had recently then this could be achievable.

Last year they stuffed up and had to reverse the silver license decision. It would seem that they have created the non championship event to cater especially for silver license riders

None of this makes any sense...
So what is happening here is that they are willing to allow me to sign up with my Silver Licence number, take my money, but on the day not allow me to ride?
Even though at least two of their staff have now told me prior that all is completely ok to do so?
Whats the criteria that will make them change their mind about me? Wouldn't it be easier on their part just to say you need a gold licence - full stop?
I suppose, if I have to, I'll sign up for the gold licence but it will definitely be the only event this year that I'll need that for, and if in the end i don't need it, they're not going to give me a refund that's for sure.
So frustrating...

Dougie...
I did ring Cycling Australia.
They told me that they didn't have a clue what licence was required, as they weren't running the event.
Told me to contact NSW Cycling - which I have now done twice..

I have two aero helmets that anyone is welcome to borrow for the TTT if they'd like.
An upgrade from a silver Recreation license to a gold Race license (Masters only) is $105.60.
This will last you till the end of Dec 2014.
You will need to download the membership form and refill this out, remember to tick the 'upgrade to race license' box at the top of the form.
Then you will have to download a separate credit card payment form and fill this out.
Scan and send back or post the forms to Cycling Australia. You'll need to speak to Lance (membership officer) at their Mascot office.

Hi Marc.
I spoke to Dean (3rd person i'd spoken to) and explained the issues and the advice I was getting on this forum.
He was the one who said "would it help if I gave it to you in writing"
I of course said yes, and he sent this email to me today.
He's also the guy who going to be on the desk at the event on the day, so I'm feeling pretty confident I'm ok.
Cheers,
Steve

Awesome! The CNSW list is out and a quick count shows DHBC has 12 teams entered (47 people) - that's 3 more teams than last year.
Check your team is entered here
Start times still to come.

RIDER NEEDED
Our team has only 3 riders now. is anyone interested in joining me Jonathan and Paul?
we are strong C28 ability and entered in the 150+ category
If you're interested I can try and persuade Cycling NSW to accept a late entry

There is one DHBC team:
MMAS 150+ WELLER, Craig
MMAS 150+ KINNA, Shaun
MMAS 150+ NOTT, Matthew
MMAS 150+ HARTLEY, Thomas
MMAS 150+ HOCKNELL, Martin
This team has 5 people. If they're happy to have one of them ride with Rob's team, it should work out.
Any idea how to get in touch with any of these people?
James and Dean at cyclingNSW seems to be quite lenient on making last minute adjustments to teams.

Our team has had an emergency situation/scratching—we'll race with 3, but would be nice to have a fourth member—our aim is to average somewhere near 40kph
U150 team GenX
Simon Berry (captain)

Robert Webber
