Sun 3rd Nov 2013 club Waterfall rides cancelled
Will the Wollongong entourage interfere our usual route to Kurnell?
In years gone by, DHBC riders have done the same Sun ride. But that was in days when the club and bunches were much much smaller. So yes, nothing stopping anyone from riding down to Waterfall and back. Just go ahead of the Gong riders.
So I assume we are going to Waterfall this Sunday but leaving earlier .... 6am?Yes it will Marc. You can go earlier but you'll need to leave much earlier than normal. i.e. 6:30 is too late.
ALL Waterfall rides are cancelled. They will not be scheduled earlier. If people choose to ride that way, that's fine but it won't be a club ride.
There will be lane closures and other things on the route that may interfere with a bunch ride.
I'd suggest that people who want to ride consider doing:
A) the Eastern Suburbs hills (there's a plan in the wings for this)
B) La Perouse
C) Something on the north side

Capt. Dougies Como & Cronulla Cruise ™ route is looking like a good option - avoids the roads used by the 'Gong ride but has some interesting roads(Strava). If you wanted to further avoid the 'Gong ride, take a detour at Sylvannia and use the Princes Hwy overpass at Taren Point, then back streets to Capt. Cook Drv.

I'm up for going north, departing about 6.
Unfortunately leave pass expires early so I may just do Bobbin Head or alternatively - Balmoral, North Head return via Powderworks & Mona Vale Rd.
Have a great ride,
Peter

I'm up for 6am.
I've extended an invitation to some other 'non club' riders. Have yet to hear back but would you mind if I organised for them to meet us at the bridge or similar?

Hi Rajiv,
Did I just see in the other post that 'week 5 is the toughest'?
Hadn't thought about pace. Peter is a lot quicker than me, as is Julian who is also thinking of coming. So it's likely to be middies with regrouping at the top of the climbs.

For those looking for something a little more sedate. The Como Cronulla Coffee Cruise will also be running. 6.30am from the cafe.

Actually, I don't know which week is the toughest as there's always something new to learn each week. Doug suggested application of Rule 5 for the rest of my parenting years. That seems to be the only option at this stage.Hi Rajiv,

I won't be joining you guys for the Northern ride if it's going to be middies pace. I did catch up with the Tuesday bunch this week, despite leaving a bit late, but I don't think I'd be able to keep it up over a longer distance.

I've got to be back in Marrickville before 11.
Looking back through my records that means no 3 Gorges let alone 4 for me, (3 Gorges is about 5.5 hours return). At the moment I'll ride out with you guys at 6am go through Bobbin Head and see where I am at 8.20am and turn around and head back. Maybe I can get to the ferry and turn around there.
Otherwise I could go another direction and go northern beaches, including Balmoral/Spit. Ah decisions.
Sorry but I'll be there at 6am regardless,
Peter Bownes

If this smoke doesn't clear, I wouldn't do the 3 gorges, we tried to do it today, but the smoke was very thick up north. We turned around at the top of Galston, but even Bobbin Head was pretty enshrouded by smoke.

South westerly this arvo supposed to clear the air but more north westerly winds predicted tomorrow which could well mean more smoke. If this smoke doesn't clear, I wouldn't do the 3 gorges, we tried to do it today, but the smoke was very thick up north. Peter, perhaps we gauge this in the morning and go along your Northern Beaches route instead.
Still keen for the Gorges if it clears up.
They are back burning up in the Hawkesbury at the moment, so smoke may linger up that way.

Waterfall rides cancelledSorry, I'm a bit confused about what's on tomorrow morning. Where's everyone meeting? Outside the Cafe at 6?
Geoff is riding Eastern Suburbs Hills 28s pace 6.30 at the cafe.
3/4 Gorges or similar alternative depending on atmospheric conditions fast28s/middies pace 6am at the cafe.
There is also a 25s/slowies ride on, not sure about details.
*note these are not club sanctioned rides

Shame you slept in Anthony, you were missed!
Good ride, changed our minds at Gordon and headed out to Akuna Bay instead.
Time restraints meant no West Head and we ditched Noel at Narrabeen on another seat of the pants decision to change the route.
Still it worked out even without a list!
Thanks guys,
Peter
