FITZ'S CHALLENGE 2011 - Heads up.
Just wanted to give you all the heads up on Fitz's Challenge this year
http://www.clubsonline.com.au/site/inde ... OrgID=4063
If you havn't done this ride, it's well worth it. I enjoyed it just as much as the Alpine Classic. And if your a long distance masochist, like me, there is a new option to do the 250 Extreme, surpassing the old 207km Epic.
If you'd be interested in heading down there this year, please let me know. Last year Pia and I booked a cabin at the
Greenleigh Central Canberra which was cheap and only a 15 min ride to Mt Stromblo for the start.

If you're interested in going down please let me know ASAP and I can look into organising a group accommodation booking.

In theory I'm interested, but it's the weekend before I have my uni assessment pieces due. I have to remember, and people please keep reminding me, that doing the State road races the week before assessment was due this semester was insane. Doing the Fitz challenge, even though I really want to, looks to be in the same category.
Adrian, Camilla and I are doing the ACE 250 next year.

It's the week after Grafton to Inverell
As Adrian say's it's well worth it and also for a great cause. With quite a few distances there is something for everyone.
Adrian, I am definitely keen to ride again this year but will get back to you about accommodation. I did the 105km ride last year with a couple of friends from work and have mentioned it to them again. If they are keen, is it okay if I bring along a couple of non club members ?
Cheers

I am planning to do the 207km Fitz and probably the ACE250 again in January with Doug - ex DHBC (he moved to Canberra earlier this year)
Simone is planning on doing one of the shorter Fitz's options.
Need the incentive to shed some of the winter excess (and it's not even winter yet)

Details on the course for Fitz's Extreme 250 are now available.

As a point of interest, the total climbing for the Fitz's extreme if 4700m
The Audax Alpine Classic has a total climbing 4,345m

Nothing like raising the bar.

O im def interested in doing this ride this year. I had this planned for last year (along with the scott 24hr and fixie century) but after our 4 day 700km tour my body was wrecked and i had to pull out of everything else that month. October is allways a busy month with the scott, fixie century, grafton and the fitz ride. As i would like to do them all (bar the grafton) i hope nothing will clash.
Now 205km or 250km that is the question ......

I've now registered for Fitz's Extreme.
Pia and I will be staying at the Greenleigh Motel which is 6km from the start of the ride. I just spoke with the motel manager and there is still accommodation available there if you want to book in.
If anyone is traveling down and has space for a few extra people and bikes, please get in contact as I'd love a lift. If we can't get a lift, we'll either hire a car or catch the train down.

Hi Adrian,
Good luck with the Extreme, I got scared looking at the profile for the Classic and will be doing the Tharwa again this year.
I haven't registered yet but intend to do so this week. I am heading down with a couple of mates and am not sure how many cars we will take. I will let you know if there is space for a couple more.
Cheers

Hi Mojo, Great that you'll be down there. I'm pretty sure Alex Dirks will also be there. I think he's doing the Epic. Vic, it would be great if you could join us but I understand it would be tough backing up after the Scott. Let me know if you change you mind but the good thing Fitz's is there are distances for everyone depending on how you're feeling. The extreme and the epic are really no different in terms of total climbing. I'm a little concerned with my lack of fitness but there is nothing like a challenge to get back into it. Hopefully two month's of solid commuting will bring me up to speed.
So i'm thinking about it.
I just need to get a patrol covered down @ the beach.
I'm leaning towards the 160... Vic if you want to go on the ride i'm happy to do whatever you'r legs feel up to, and at whatever speed you want. I'm out of form in cycling (but my skating is awesome!). I think Haidee is doing the 100. so that could make a fun group.
I'll let you guy know when i'm more certain, is it too late to think about accommodation?

Hmmm so tempting. I won't really know until 2 weeks after the Scott if I am fit to ride a bike that weekend though. Give me some secret crazy recovery tips to do in the week after and maybe I'll be alright. I have no work that week, so I could just lie in an ice bath 24/7...
I would also be further swayed if you convinced Aimee to do it...

Hi Lizanne,
The Greenleigh Motel which is 5km from the start is $100 a night. Pia and I, and Alex and his partner have booked accommodation there. If you and Vic want to make a booking I'd get in quick. See you tommorrow at slowies, Adrian

Ok, I have registered (although I feel a little soft only doing the 105km with all the talk of 207 and 250km)
I will be travelling down by car (it's a Golf so not huge) and have some room for one or maybe two people if someone has a bike rack to accommodate two or three bikes.
Let me know.
Cheers

H Lizanne, what time are you going down and comming back?
i need to figure out transport but i can't leave work till 4 on the friday and i need to be back at work monday morning. but can help with finding a bike rack
I don't plan on heading down until Saturday afternoon (leave Sydney around midday). At the moment it depends on what time the child minding service (A.K.A Mum and Dad) can take my daughter. Last year I drove back straight after the ride. It depends on which ride you are doing and what time you expect to finish, but I don't mind hanging back for a couple of hours. This will get you back by Sunday evening with plenty of time for a well earned rest before work on Monday.
If it is only one extra person/bike then I won't need a rack - as long as you are happy enough to lay the bikes down in the boot.
Let me know if this works for you.
