DHBC 100 push up challenge
http://hundredpushups.com/
Ok people, I have been reading this site, and think we all need to do the 100 push up challenge. It is a 6 week course where you start with a small amount of push ups, with breaks then repeat etc, and it takes about half an hour a day. There are different categories on there for different ages and starting fitness etc
Push ups are a great strength trainer, and you will find that similar exercises such as bench press are on the list of training that track sprinters do, as it helps control the bike along with core strength etc.
I want to do this in between my other weights schedule etc, which involves bench press etc, but will just worry less about all that while this goes on. This sounds like a heap of fun, and a challenge, that will leave us all with an achievement.
Its only three days a week from what I can work out! so who is in! (maybe we can create a better page thing later)

I'm in, sort of: just started the 50 chinup program. Details at fiftypullups.com.
wow! 50 pull ups hey! hmmnnnnnn
I have a friend that was able to do one handed chin ups, it took a year, and he did it by tying a towel around the bar, and over the year getting lower on the towel until its hardly doing any thing, I think he said it took a year or so though!

Getting Started
Before beginning this or any exercise routine you are advised to meet with your physician and assess whether you are healthy enough for physical activity. 7 Weeks to 50 Pull-Ups can be taken at your own pace and work with your level of fitness. If you feel extremely fatigued or have an uncomfortable level of pain or soreness please take 2-3 days off from the workout and see a healthcare professional if necessary.

I'd be lucky to do 10 pull ups, I've got an old injury in the forearm that puts a damper on that

I saw that but thought it was an American thing, I would call them both chin ups... The palm out ones are a bit harder. But I don't have a choice though: have to do them palm out ("pull up") cause I'm using the second floor landing
Actually been wanting to do it for ages but couldn't find a spot, until now.
I did 4 in my initial test..... Here goes!

Oh yeah iPhone apps are good, I've used the pushup one before and just got the pull up one. Main benefit is they give you a countdown for the break in between sets: always comes around faster than you think.

Holy crap I just reread the 50 pullups program. I was misled. It says 7 weeks in the title, but that's only if you can do 15 already.
20 weeks to go for me, ach!
P.S. Trouty I don't know how much the exact rest time matters. I like the timer because it's enough rest but stops me dawdling... I reckon doing other exercises is a definite plus.

yeah if you reach 50 that will be heaps good! I dont reckon I can do the pullups justice with my other work outs really, though I am interested still!
Yeah Jo go for it, it may make it a lot harder, and maybe a bit slower to get better at, as its not really going with the seriousness they place on recovery, it may actually change it to a completely different training Idea, but who cares it will still train you and make you better at push ups!
Ok when do we start if we are starting next month? friday? or should the first night be down at the track?

I though you could just do the 100 pushups and its over, didn't know you were suppose to train for it...
I've already started this week, I started on week 3 according to the initial test result. I used the pushup online tracker aswell. Let's see if I can do this magic 100 in 4 weeks time, I don't think so as the sets start to get quite hard at week 4 onward.Ok when do we start if we are starting next month? friday? or should the first night be down at the track?

So did I, but I couldn't finish the 4th set let alone the max set. Back to week 1 for me

Ok people, the month is almost over, time to start working out which category we are in etc, Im going to use the Iphone app now so it will be slightly easier, and I may just do a certain amount of my push ups at the track, i could probably do them at raw and track training if i remember, though it will be cold :S
my number is 40, which is slightly larger than I expected, i thought it would be about 20.
this means i am starting in week three. 20 or so push ups with intervals :s ill see how it goes hey.
...ok maybe the ap was a bad idea, its based on the web page, but wont let you skip a couple of weeks

Tim just go to Setup > Reset To Day then choose when you want to start. (Assuming you have the iPhone app "Hundred Pushups".)
Hey Timmy, you're starting at the exact point as me 40 - week 3/column 3. Take a look at the sets on week 4, it's a bit of a jump so next week will be a killer (hard). I think at week 4 onward I will struggle, but it's worth a go.my number is 40, which is slightly larger than I expected, i thought it would be about 20. This means i am starting in week three.

Cool as! Well I'm starting next week I think, but it's good that I'm not alone! I wonder how it will effect improvement, if it's like weightless and we have already got a bit of the fitness and won't improve heaps quickly.
I'm hoping this course will teach me a bit about my body and training

I thought this was like track racing, ie you don't actually train for it
Ok - is anyone struggling yet - I am ? Week 6 Day 1 seems to be the week I've hit a brick wall and did less maximum than I did in week 5. I guess I'll be repeating week 6 next week. It says after completing week 6 you attempt the 100, which at this stage seems like an impossible task. Anyone done it yet?
I'm hardly killing it given I have to regress a week. It's more than likely killing me. Anyone who has any tips or who has completed week 6 that can tell me it gets easier - please do!!!Joanne is killing this comp! I am a bit lax.. between lotsa weight sessions I try and keep up
Anyone still going on this?
Lost a week due to work and family stuff. Currently up Week 5 Day 3.
The program is ramping up a fair bit now. Week 6 looks a shocker.
I got up to week 6 the week before last but I couldn't complete all the required sets on the Monday, and due to work missed Wednesday and Friday. I also missed today so I might have to start back on Week 6 next week. Week 6 is the hardest one, but it is suppose to be the final one. I still can't get how week 6 asks you to do 60 - but then you are supposedly able to do 100 by week 7??

Got sick, forgot, blah blah blah, made it to week 2 day 2
Still, can manage 7 pull ups now, happy with that. Back on to the program next week!
