Hello all DHBCers....
RAMBO 3 BIKE CHALLENGE
This is a day challenge starting at 7 am in the blue mountains and finishing at 7 pm at Tempe Velodrome. It is a team event made up of teams of ideally 3 or 4 people in each team. Over the event 3 types of terrain will need to be crossed to make up the 3 bike challenge. Mountain biking, road biking and velodrome biking. Though due to logistics the first two can be done on one bike.
Each team will be given or must have the following:
• A map
• A bike computer with the capacity to measure total distance and elevation climbed
• A camera for documenting achieved tasks or acts of stupidity
In this event there are only two set tasks that each team must complete, that is the they must begin by having at least one member complete the mountain bike leg and they must finish with one rider completing the 20 lap scratch race around the velodrome before 6 pm. The route, ride distance, the events which occur between the mountains and the velodrome are up to each team, however in order to win the challenge there will be a number of set tasks which the teams may complete in order to score points.
Distances:
• 100kms
• 130kms
• 150kms
• 175kms
• 200kms +
Distances are measured to by the bike computer and teams may add on to their totals, the added kms of the mountain bike leg and the track leg if it is not already picked up by the bike computer.
Total climbing:
• 500ms
• 1000ms
• 1500ms
• 2000ms
• 2500ms +
Objectives: (must have photo graphic evidence)
• Catch a ferry
• Drink the local beverage
• Consume the most unique meal of the day
• Pose with an interesting local
• Get your bike/s serviced for nothing at a bike shop
• Swap bikes with your team mate for 10 kms
• Attempt to set off a speed camera ( but don’t achieve it as that’s illegal)
• Create the most exciting scene at a local land mark
• Best photo of the day
• Get a free glass of water at an expensive restaurant

Intriguing... So many questions.
When? Where? I'm going to need to borrow a mountain bike. Is riding a pink fixie compulsory? Or is that a picture of your ideal road bike?

Well the concept is a 3 bike challenge, with mountain, road/fixie and track. It may be a race it may not. Currently the preferred locations are the oaks fire trail in the blue mountains, followed by fixed ride back and then track racing at tempe. The other option is up north, Gosford area for the mountain biking which would be a nicer but more challenging ride to tempe and the final but easiest is down south around loftus.Intriguing... The date is to be set when the locations are chosen and the format of the event agreed upon....
I would rule Manly Dam out, mostly based on that fact that non mountain bikers will be riding it and it would be nice not to send anyone home in an ambulance.
I guess the Oaks really is the newbie friendliest ride that won't see anyone stacking.

The logistics are not 100% worked out yet & will have to involve a motorised vehicle. Really depends on numbers to a certain extent. How do we take a mountain bike and a fixie out to oaks?

Update:
It's looking as though the preferred date for this event is the first week in September; Sunday the 5th of September. We will aim to have a teams presentation Saturday the 4th of September to introduce the teams and give people time to discuss the map and their plans for the following day. Lindsay has put forward a proposal route which will likely be his teams.
The main change that we are looking at is rather than having 3 bikes, riders can ride one bike over the the two main terrains, on the dirt and then on the road, swapping at the velodrome. This cuts out the main logistical problem. A touring bike with thick tyres, 28-35mm tyres with cantilever or disc brakes is the prefferred option. Riders who just want to do the mountain bike leg are welcome to come up and join in for this part & riders who just want to do the road and track parts are also welcome to join in and can join their team post mountain bike leg. The only catch is you will need to join a team of people with similar abilities and expectations of the route distance and difficulty, which I will attempt to help assign people to.
Lindsay has also suggested adding extra tasks which can be acheived with the camera, main post updated. Here's a suggestion of our options for reaching the start line-
Arrive Katoomba Saturday Night Stay in Motel
Train Katoomba (6:25am) to Woodford for 7am Start
or
Train Central (5:48am) to Woodford for 7:30am Start

I am still trying to work out a date for this one, I think it could be a very fun event and great way to get an enjoyable long ride in.
