Hello all DHBCer’s this July DHBC will be holding the Le Tour de Dullich: Kilometre Grand Tour challenge in celebration of the tour of de france. Here's the rules, so if you need clarification ask now.

This is an event to encourage all kinds of cycling and create excitement about riding for all people with a bicycle in the Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club. As like in the Giro D’maggio run earlier this year a number of different classifications. But a few modifications have been made. Instead of the General Classification being the most kms ridden it will now be an accumulative point score of all the categories and the most kms ridden will be its own category. The other major change is to the White jersey, is now open to all riders who ride waterfall with the C25 bunch, any Saturday slowies who do not ride waterfall or under 18 riders.

Kms Classification (most kilometres ridden)
This category is simple; every time you get on the bicycle you must record the amount of kilometres you ride, for every day in July (1st to 31st). So for example you may ride Saturday slowies Saturday morning (40kms), to waterfall on Sunday morning (80kms), commute to work Monday (10kms) and ride at the Velodrome Monday Night (30kms). Then you simply add up the total of these rides; 160kms and this is your progressive total. Any form of cycling counts and estimations are good enough if you do not own a cycle computer. Any kms accumulated on Rollers, trainers, spin class bikes or mountain bikes all count so long as you can gauge how many kms you have down in one ride.

As a general for how to classify your aims, here’s a guide; (for the whole month, based on my and Jessica’s estimation)
1. 0-200kms – You are Gregory Bauge; You may be able to win 3 world track sprint championships but will never win a grand tour.
2. 200-500kms-You are Tyler Hamilton, you have experienced and early tour tragedy such as a broken collarbone (or change of job) and have to battle on.
3. 500-750kms- You are Oscar Freire you don’t seem to do much training but still achieve amazing results
4. 750-1200kms- You are Allesandro Pettachi, this is the first hill top finish of the tour and you would rather get off now than continue
5. 1200-1550kms-You are Cam Myer, a young strong cyclist with much ability and ambition but not the endurance to continue
6. 1550-1869kms- You are Johan Van Summeren you are a super domestique who does all the kms and will someday get a great victory.
7. 1860-2170kms- You are Matt Loyd you have made it to the real mountains and have the power to blow your competition away. Though with this much dedication you may soon have no job.
8. 2170-2480kms- You are Fabian Cancellara you have conquered the mountains and still have the strength to win the individual time trial
9. 2480-2790kms- You are Jens Voight and absolute battler and deserve the greatest accolades for making it this far!
10. 2790-3100kms- You are Cadel Evans, you have battled for one whole month and have been ahead of the competition but can’t quite find that winning edge.
11. 3100-3480kms- You are Alberto Contador you probably have some kind of doping investigation hanging over your head to have done this many kms in a month. You have completed the ful Tour de France kms!!!

Points classifications:
The way these classifications work is that you can earn a set amount of points for achieving a particular activity in the month of July. Each activity can be performed as many times as you wish and the same amount of points are earned each time, so long as you complete each activity each time you do it. So for example in the sprint classification on a Monday night at the track you may win the Monday night madison (15 points), win a lead out (6 points) and do 2 starts (2 points). This will give you a cumulative total of 23 points for this category. Points can only be scored on the days of July and the winner of each category will be the person with highest total. Here is the available points for the Sprint and Mountain Classifications:

Sprint:
1. 20 points- Win a DHBC Crit or omnium
2. 19 points- Place in a DHBC Crit or Omnium
3. 18 points- Win a race at RAW

11. 10 points-Last person on the motor bike on a Wednesday night
12. 9 points- Win all 3 lead outs on Monday or Wednesday night at the velodrome
13. 8 points- 100 no resistant sprints

To gain point in this classification one member may nominate another for any of the following categories so long as they witness the aggressive act and 5 points awarded per nomination. Categories are
1. Personal best
2. they need some encouragement
3. ‘Wow I wouldn’t have done that myself’
4. ‘wow that’s amazing you freak’

White Jersey (best junior -C25)
This category is designed to encourage younger and newer riders into the club. Points are scored through kms ridden just like in the most kms ridden category. However in order to qualify for this category you must fit one of the following categories;
1. Ride waterfall with C25 bunch (and have done so 3 time previously this year)
2. Ride Saturday slowies and have yet to ride waterfall (& do not compete competitively in any other form of cycling)
3. Be under the age of 18

For the climbing 1000m, is that 10 points, plus 1 point for each 100m, plus 5 points for each 500m, so 30points for climbing 1000m, plus whatever climbs you did? OR are the metre's not accumulative (eg 17points for 1700m climbing), same question regarding no resistance sprints.

Also, Centennial hill is in Centennial Park, i'm assuming Tempe Hill is Bayview Ave, what is Marrickville hill??

Waterfall Sprint, does there have to be at least 2 people for it to be a sprint?? (ie. can't win the sprint riding solo)

Can't think of anything else yet...

I'm exhausted just reading that, but feel the compulsion looming and a giant smile lurking! Good luck, el Prez, in keeping the peace! Every ounce of your laconic being will be drawn apon in this test. I like the new rules for the most aggressive & white jerseys riders, plus the team spirit aspect. Just love the way you've slipped some RAW goodness in there too. You have built it and we will come!

I of course will be Friere again, irrespective of all intentions or desires. And Jo will be Pettachi.

I would like some classification for the Mountain points please el presidente,

1. Do all the rides have to start from the same point? (i.e mick mazza roll out point)

2. Do we have to generate a bikely/garmin route so that we can quantify the route? (i.e http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Five-Gorges http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/525116)

3. When you say Stanwell Tops is that coming from RNP or from Helensburgh?

4. Please explain where the slowies hill sprint is? (should we also have sprint points for the person who makes it out of the getto/redfern area the fastest :P)

5. Could you also please put in Mt Kembla with Mt Kiera, same hill just a few ks apart and in imho Mt Kembla is harder to assend

6. Why is bayview ave 3 points and centennial park hill 4 points....both are a k long and both have the same degree of steepness?

7. I do a long Eastern Hills starting at La Par thru to the tuesday eastern hills route starting at the top of bronte. It has more than 12 climbs in it...would that count for more points than the 3 or 5 eastern hills climbs on the challenge or should I just count the 3 and 5 routes together?

8. Now that I have posted this do I have a target on my back for others looking at the pokerdot jersey to aim for? if so then follow me to the glory land of ascension into the heavens.

i was just thinking that all of the 'sub-points' (so to speak) for a climb are worth alot more than the actual climb. So if you do a 1000m climb you actually get ( 10 + 2x5 + 10x1 = 30) points, which is way more than 10... just wasn't sure if that was what Simon intended when he put the points system together... Im just pretty lazy and would find it hard to work out my points after a given ride :)

Are they the same steepness? How come I go up Bayview much slower then?

I think that for the teams classification there should be a clause that it doesn't count if you live with/are related to the club person you ride with. It's a bit unfair for all those people out there who don't have WAGS/HUBS who like to ride. I mean, the poor people are already at a life disandantage so why rub it in.

Perhaps to make it more equitable all us poor WAGless/HUBless could stand around looking like sad losers on 1st July, and those more fortunate could, by popular acclaim or for maximum comedic effect, select us a suitable (or unsuitable) team partner for the Tour. :P

1. Nope. if you want to be the most talked about club memeber on a Saturday or Sunday morning at the cafe you can drive.

2.Nope. Most routes are well used and it will become appparent how many metres most routes use pretty quickly for those who don't own a garmin.

3.Neither, Stanwell park.

4.nope. it is the run up to king street.

5.If it really is the same hill you can just can claim it as such otherwise you can claim the mtres climbing.

6.that's the points system, one has to outrank the other.

7.For you I will change it to make 12 easier and less scoring.

8. you get what you get!

a 1000ms of climbing is a fair bit and based on how little people did in the last competition it's not that many points when you consider what you can get from the sprint competition towards your GC for comparative effort. But yes it is 30 points plus the climb/s.

Some people spend more time with their riding buddys than their wives or partners so I don't think there is any reason to stop partners riding together. It may even form some relationships.

You misunderstand me Jo! I have a HAB. He even rides a bike. He's even a member of the club. That's the problem - I don't think it's fair I should get Team points just because I ride to the corner shop to pick up some milk with him.

But the WAG spot is wide open, so I'd be honoured to ride with you on that basis!

Well it looks like my Tour de Dullich is not off to a good start. My Trek is currently at clarence st for a warranty assessment which will most likely result in me getting a new frame. The upside is I'll most probably get a shiny new frame. The downside is... well it could take a while.

I guess I can always put down some brompton kms in the meantime.

There's at least 7 - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Au ... -Hills-150 here's a route a few of us did last year. Are they strictly all "gorges"? maybe not but they all have hills in them.

5 gorges is different depending on who you ask, but in this case i believe it's Galston Gorge, Berowra Waters, Bobbin Head, Akuna Bay, West Head.

Typically the everyday definition of commute is to ride to work and back. I gues it could be pushed to riding to other places but should constitute both trips, getting there and getting home.

So a return trip to work. What if I work in 4 different locations on the same day?

I reckon your commute is just you getting around to the things you need to get around to. Stop trying to find loop holes already. Loop holes is what destroyed the spirit of the last comp.

I reckon your commute is just you getting around to the things you need to get around to. Stop trying to find loop holes already. Loop holes is what destroyed the spirit of the last comp.
I'm not trying to find loop holes, I'm trying to clarify so I can correctly record

Ok to get this started and show everyone the new system. Here's my commuting kms for the day. 4kms on my fixie which is 4 kms to the km competition and 4 points to the sprint competition. Accumulatively this is 8 points to the general classification. If They were done with another club member they would score 4 kms to the teams classification and accumulate 12 points to the gc but they were done solo.

The GC is just and accumulative total of all your points. so its:

9 + 25 + 4 + 2 = 40.

Um 25 + 9 = 38 not 37. Should of paid attention at school.

Friday night: RAW. I see Simon has put 25k. I did 40 laps in warmup so I'll go for the same 25k for that + 7 points
Saturday morning: Bike commute fixed 9k return + 4 points for fixed. 25k for a spin class, actually high performance, but I'm not getting greedy.
Saturday afternoon: Heffron park. Actual K's = 58k (including getting there and back) I can't see any extras for Heffron in the list. Let me know if I'm wrong.

So that's
1k for miscalculation + 25k RAW + 9k commute + 25k spin +58k Heffron = 118k
7 points RAW + 4 points fixed = 11 points

25kms at RAW, rode with Nathan on his Jamis, Placed 4th in a race (counting it based on Tim's Precedent)

77kms to waterfall C25's, rode with Aimee on her Pinarello, 500m climbed according to Garmin. There's a clause preventing me claiming white jersey points unfortunately. Surely someone wants to nominate me for some aggressive rider points for this mornings effort....

Did an individual time trial this morning at Calga. 25km plus 5km warm up/down. 300+ m climbing

Rode with Camilla on her Teschner. She started a minute behind me and had me in sight for most of the ride. I could feel her desire to catch me and spurred me on. What a great team effort with no illegal drafting involved. We warmed down together. I claim team points for that.

Today's ITT is a race that isn't a race except with yourself. Can you win? Interesting philosophical and point-scoring discussion.

It's true. I was there. So were Mark on his colnago, Amy on her BMC and Mike on something I don't recall seeing before and have now forgotten the name of but that he's apparantly had since 2009.

So, I've just been reading the rules and have decided I don't have the mental energy to both calculate my tally AND write a thesis over the month of July. I mean, I'm yet to actually work out what the Slowies Sprint is, even though I must ride it every other week? But who knows how I'll feel tomorrow, so for the record I'm on whatever Eleri just got for the ITT.

My real reason for posting is that I wanted to nominate her for most aggressive rider of the day. She was on fire! I did indeed have her in my sights but no way was I going to catch her, unless there was a monster hill on offer (which, thankfully, there was not). Failing that only a flat would have slowed her sufficiently. Nice ride Eleri! Has to be a PB?

That's ok, it is possibly abit too complicated this time around but we'll wait and see how it fairs over a month. For aggressive rider nominations, you just have to nominate the category it fits under and update the points. The rider can update the points themself or the person nominating, it doesn't matter too much. All nominations are worth 5 points.

Why thank you! :D

Must have been the aerodynamic qualities of Mark's jersey. Yes folks, I left my jersey on the bedroom floor. Boy power!

I rode to Bundeena and back today. Via Audley both ways, with a visit to the Warumbul picnic ground. 120km, fixed, with a little bit of dirt road. What points that gets me, I have no idea, but my legs are tired so that's what counts right?

Can someone write a program so I can enter my rides in and in auto calculates things? I done some km's, some fixed riding and lots of climbing over the past few days but this is all looking rather complex!

RAW on Friday - 19km & 2nd place in two Novice races, so 7 + 17 +17 sprint points. (is that right - it does seem rather a lot of points?)

Waterfall Sunday - 93km, 730m climbing according to my garmin, so 6 (for waterfall) + 5 (500m) + 7 (7x100m) KOM points
no points in teams classification because I rode a fair slab of it as an ITT.

So I've put myself down for 112km, 41 sprint points, 18 KOM points & added them up to get 171 GC points. Hope I've got this correct.

I think this is more or less up to date, though lots of people have been losing majors things when they copy and paste. I'm not sure if people are starting posts and and leaving it so that other people are posting or if they are just not copying the most up to date last post.

Please check that the table is identicle to the last post after you post and only yours has changed. For anyone who doesn't really understand the system, just post what you have done & I will update it later as it is easier to do that than to have to try and fix the whole thing up six posts Later.

Julio your tally still makes no sense. Your GC is not a sum of all your other data because it doesn't all add up. So your last GC was lost, if you want to re work it out.

I think this system is just too complex because even when I look now after cleaning it up there's still mistakes.

We will just have to revert back to the rules of the Giro Di Maggio and loose the GC & teams competition. I can always add the GC in at the end as it is simply an assumulative total.

Can we penalise people for not using the most recent list (deleting others points)??

I reckon -100km penalty for first offence, -100km and -10 points in each category for second offence, and -500km and -50points in each category for any further offences.

That's not a bad idea but sometimes it just happens when two people post at the same time. I am a bit concerns that nearly every second post deleted something when we are only 4 days into a 30 day competition.

Hopefully with a simplified format with no calculations and only data entry it will be ok. I will add up the GC at the end.

Hey I added my sprint points, but have also done the Maddison this week, how do we know who won that?
Me & Anthony claimed it for lapping the field. I think that is pretty definitive. We answered the attacks afterwards too before retiring for the night. But you're welcome to challenge that if you like & claim points too if you feel that you won.

oh ok, its hard to decide on the maddison, because people keep attacking, getting in front then dropping out.
so km's? we were going forever
