Yes it did James but then I disabled file uploads till we discuss the implications (I tested using Jo's account rather than my moderator account). We only have 5GB of storage and we are currently using 1.1GB. A free for all in the forums that would include photo's, video's etc would suck that up pretty fast. We can limit the amount of total uploads (default is 50MB!) but I think I'd prefer to see the current practice of linking to other sites for photo's. We could up our storage to 10 or 25Gb but do we want to do that?

I agree on the external host solution for file uploads. Given that our forum is open to all, there really isn't any reason for keeping those files/images on our server for privacy reasons. Otherwise maybe we should store certain key photos for club archive.

What sort of files are you talking about Mike? If they are photos I would suggest using one of the many photo hosting/sharing sites that are available.

If it is a file that is in the club interest, the I would think that it could be hosted on the website, so I would suggest contacting a moderator and going from there.

Agree that important docs can be hosted, but it would still be handy to have somewhere to put stuff, outside of DHBC

On a separate note to James and Stuart. The current new post notifications are from Stuart's Gmail address. This probably should be changed to an anonymous admin or blackhole email box.

I changed one email field but obviously it wasn't the right one so I've changed another one now. We'll see. If you reply to it, it should just bounce I think.

I think you should limit files to official club things. There are plenty of other places for the rest. It'll take a little while to get used to the new layouts. But I like it.

Apologies if this has already been covered and is being worked on at present, but "view active topics" doesnt' seem to work for me.

This is a handy feature if you're a casual forum reader and want a summary of what has been recently posted across the entire board.

You should be good now.

It had to be explicitly turned on for each forum, which I have now fixed up.

Alan, I use "View new posts" instead and that works well, especially if you save the URL in your bookmark list.

I believe View new posts is only an option if you're logged in, and I tend not to stay logged in.

Hi all - here's an update:

URL Links - these will now open in the SAME page as the forum unless you right click and choose to open in a new tab or window. This is the default for HTML 4 so that's how its staying.

James has created some nice icons etc for the forum and will commence to re-code this stuff soon so there will be some more changes.

Currently all the threads stay bold, whetehr you've read them or not. This may, or may not change in the new design.

I have updated the style so that a visited post link will now appear as a dark grey rather than black.

I am in the process of making a unique style for the Forum. One thing with it though, I am making it with a minimum width of 1080 pixels. Here is a nasty test page showing what that looks like

No problem from me at that width and seemed to be a commonly adopted standard these days. But the issue with these wider set ups is mostly on those who are least computer literate ie. Most likely to be still using narrow display screens and least likely to respond here. In other words, it'll be an additional barrier for them to easily navigate the internet. Is it something we've considered?

Mike, I agree. The keyword search facility doesn't seem to be working on older threads (or indeed any threads predating the move to new setup.) You can still search by posts from a member, but the real guts of the search function is the keyword search. In the interim until the problem is fixed, I suggest using a google search, with the keyword, and "DHBC" or even "dhbc.org.au". That will probably get you there.

you can use the advanced keywords in Google's search by adding

inurl:dhbc.org.au

which will only search pages that have that string in their URL's

or

site:dhbc.org.au

which will only search the dhbc.org.au site (which includes the forum)

I will try and have a look at the search issue.
