Saturday training option with Renegade Cycles
For people who need more volume, intensity and variety with their Sat morning rides, it would not be a bad idea to join Renegade Cycle's Sat AM bunch rides (starting in Lane Cove shops). They have 3 bunches for riders of different abilities and rotate through the various routes up on the north side eg. Three Gorges (Galston Gorge/Berowra Waters/Bobbin Head), Akuna Bay, Awaba Rd KOM etc. There are plenty of hills climbs and lovely scenery to accompany you while you suffer.
Information on their rides is on the following page.

Our club's Jimmy (James C) is a regular leader of their A bunch and I've started to selectively ride with them depending on the route. Today, we were also joined by Jo/Stuart/Amy making a big DHBC turn out that got their ride leader's attention. JamesC has a personal web page detailing the various rides in great detail.

I think that this option is much more practical than trying to initiate a regular DHBC ride going north. Further, we received enquiries on our track training schedule and may see some of the Renegade guys coming down to our track nights.

It was a good ride today. Jo, Amy & I went with the B group to Church Point, 64k's of riding at an average of 26.6kph. The hills weren't too bad and they stopped and waited for the bunch to re-group after the climb back up McCarrs Ck Rd (I was last rider but only about 100m behind 3 others) and also slowed to allow us to regroup on the way there following the climb up Mona Vale Rd from the Pacific Hwy.
Coming back along the Pacific Hwy from Mona Vale Rd was a bit dicey given the traffic volume and the bunch was pretty disorganised, unlike on the way out when it had worked very well with everybody calling. Just shows you it's not only DHBC who have difficulty with bunch's.
I'll go back as its good training and certainly a change from Centennial Park. BTW, we drove there but Jimmy, Weiyun & Glenn rode there, adding about 30k's to the days total. Maybe next time we'll ride but that means getting up even earlier, not a strong point for me!

I'll be there (again). I don't know what it is though, I haven't looked.

KOM this week. I won't be there as I have an early morning engagement. May just do a quick loop in CP and get home.
I haven't done that KOM ride to Awaba St etc but James have. I was going to suggest that RNP/Bundeena would be something that needs a bit of saving up for. An easy leg stretching spin on Sat may be wise.
KOM is basically hill repeats in the Balmoral area, all of the hills are relatively short, usually under a kilometre, however, they are quiet steep.
In the B Group, you won't go up Awaba St, which has an average 15% gradient to the roundabout, and an average of 12% to the very top. I have hit over 70km descending down it.
Have a look at my site (http://www.jamescheetham.net/Renegade) for details on the climbs, check out
Spit Bridge North
Spit Bridge South
Coronation Ave
Naval Base
Taronga Zoo
These are the climbs that the B Group will tackle, the A Group does the last three (Cornoation Ave, Naval Base and Taronga) twice, as well as Awaba St, but only after they have visited North Head.
It is a good ride if you don't mind testing yourself on the hills. But as Weiyun said, if you want to save yourself for a Bundeena Ride, then it could be a good idea to skip it as it can be quiet testing.

If the weather is good, there is a good ride on for all three groups this weekend (23rd May).
A Group is doing the three gorges, Glaston, Berowra, Bobbin.
B Group is doing a Bobbin Head return, this is probably ride through Bobbin Head, then back through and return to the shop.
C Group is going to the bottom of Galston and returning to the shop.
If you haven't been through any of these gorges, they are very good.

Yes, have that down in my diary. It all depends on the weather. Thanks for the reminder though.
As last weeks ride was cancelled, they have repeated it for this week.

Well, Renegade ride is off today. Not a good idea to ride the gorges when the roads are wet anyway.
Looks like it's dryish to the west, heading out to Olympic Park for a spin...

I went out and did the three gorges this morning. It was a bit slippery, but by the time I hit Berowra Waters and then Bobbin Head, the road was reasonable dry.
Even so, still a pretty miserable morning.

The A Group ride for this weekend is listed as Akuna Bay, but I am hoping to twist a few arms and go out to West Head instead.
This is a good challenging ride with a spectacular view at the end.

I should be in there. I have no idea where they are going at this stage.

These rides with Renegade are currently suspended until some time next year. They are a bit short on Staff to run them, and the B group was starting to get a bit large.
The keen types are probably going to keep riding on the routes North though.

Thanks. I assume that you are still doing it?
I'm planning on still riding north. I will try and advise here what we are planning on doing with the A Group. We will probably decide on a week to week basis.

I have installed forum software on my Renegade microsite, that is where we are going to post future rides from the Renegade Shop.
Leaving weekly at 6:30am sharp every Saturday morning (weather dependant).

If anyone is interested, this coming weekend (28th November), the A Group is going to go to Brooklyn Bridge, and the B Group is going to Pie in the Sky.
They are basically the same ride, with the A Group doing the descent and climb to Brooklyn from Pie in the Sky, so you can always ride out with the A Group, not do the climb, and then take an easier ride back with the B Group.

Fingers crossed I'll have a bit more time this Sat.

Hi guys,
I’ll be doing the Renegade ride this Saturday. Not sure which group I’ll ride with at this stage. As James suggested. I was thinking of riding out with the A group and head back with the B group. I’ll have to see how I go. Anyone else interested??
