Hey guys I"m going to do another jersey order. I know there has been a number of people after large jerseys & I haven't had any as well as women's jerseys.

Could people please express their interest on this thread so I can get an idea of how many to order. I don't want to do an order & sell out straight away again...

Not at present. I was just going to do an order for those who are desperately after a jersey in a size not available. If you have any new ideas they can be discussed & changes made but it takes time to make changes & I think people are just after jerseys at present.

I have no issues with the present design.

Who are you going to use to produce this run? The sizes of the last one was all over the place and the fit was terrible.

I'd like to see the website address added to the back of the jersey.

I also agree with Wieyun that the last run jerseys were terrible quality compared to the previous run one I have (made in Australia) is far better quality material, longer in the body, much better and longer zipper & superior fit & feel. I think the extra price (assuming it would be more expensive) would be worth it for the better quality.

I was also interested in getting some t-shirts printed for wearing to races (as cheer-squad) and other events.

I'm not that impressed by the last run, quality wasn't there. Did body torque make them somewhere else, or were they a cheaper model. If they charged the same for both the previous runs then I say we look for another manufacturer.

I started to look into the t-shirt thing a while ago, I can get back on the job. I've also recently looked to see if we can get DHBC biddons printed.

Skinsuits are going to cost, if we went with Champion systems the Australian list price is $124, and we would have to buy 10. They also list a speed suit, made from faster fabric..... $224.

Talking about brands.

I understand that Nalini also does custom club jerseys and obviously are of good quality. SCC uses them (at least in their recent past) and their present jerseys are $80 for members and $100 for non-members. While I am aware that the club needs to have a margin on them, but for the price we are paying now, I think Nalini shouldn't be excluded from consideration. That Body Torque jersey was not worth the $100 paid and it is giving DHBC a bad name.

http://www.nalini.com/

IIRC, MOA is their custom gear department and there's a contact email on their site.

I"m looking into Nalini for skinsuites at the moment because of the shammy, they will no doubt cost $$$. THe only reason bodytorque is easy is because they already have the design.

But that's point, SCC has been able to do Nalini jerseys for $100 to non-members, so it's not prohibitively expensive. How much are our jerseys these days? $90 or $100?

I think the point here is, if a member wants an average quality jersey, then there's Netti sale and those can be picked up for $30-50. Even if we stretch a bit more, a quality $110 jersey ($10 more than our present price) that breathes well, everyone will be comfortable and see the value, and people may even wear the jersey more often for even greater club exposure.

I appreciate that the design is already at Body Torque but why get suckered into it again for poor quality products?

Happy members -> Happy club -> More members -> D.C. (Da Capo)

I for one will wait on the side line until I know the quality of the next run. If it's BT again, then it's pass for me. But if it's good quality eg. Nalini, then I will pick up another for more regular wear. The present one is hot and uncomfortable. It has already been to my tailor in Beijing twice and I would never have gone to that much trouble if it weren't our club jersey.

Having looked at our jerseys, there's lots more room on the front, especially on the women's ones - or we could lose the 100 years of cycling in Sydney's Inner West?

There is also this company called Santini - Australian reps in Melb, made in Italy . Basically minimum order = 30 and cost is $90 for 1-2 colours. They do the Tour Down Under (which seemed reasonable quality - we bought some for American friends) , Bay Series, the AIS, SA.com, Australian National Team, Jayco-VIS, plus numerous clubs and cycling shops all over Australia.

I contacted them and they've sent me all the details including price list. Simon, I've emailed it to your hotmail account. Anyone else who may be interested PM me with your email.

I have one of the original Body Torque jerseys and it already has the website URL on the back.

Was this changed on the second run?

Just reading the posts above on brand options and thought I'd throw my 0.02c in fwiw...

I've got several Nalini jerseys and I like the quality a lot. They outfit a number of the pro-tour teams.

I also own some Santini stuff (bib knicks) and the quality is good too - IMO a notch up on Nalini quality.

Finally - the other brand we could consider is Sugoi - yes they're in Canada but the quality is superb - IMHO only a small step down from Assos at a significantly lower price. Just had a snoop and their custom jerseys are USD70 which converts to about 108 Aussie Pesos - minimum order is 25. IMHO these are a steal at that price compared to Nalini - as I say I like Nalini stuff but reckon Sugoi is in another league on quality. CBD Cyclery get their shop brand stuff from them so we can look at the finished product...

http://custom.sugoi.com/usa/eng/Products/custom/Landing

Hope that helps :-)

Cheers John

Thanks John. Sugoi, Santini or Nalini are all good, just no more Body Torque. They are just not worth the $100 price tag!

Dear all,

Thanks for all the orders and feedback. At this stage, given the immediate urgent demand, and the existing template, we will be going ahead with the existing supplier. So anyone else wanting to specify sizes, please do.

We are exploring use of sponsorship logos on black bib nicks (on prime bum cheek spots) which will ensure that our red jerseys can remain sponsor free. To do this successfully will require top quality bib nicks so that people will have no issues in purchasing these. At that time it would be likely the jersey business will go to the same supplier, whoever we chose.

I think this is a big mistake and will not do the club any favours with those who will spend their $100 for a clearly inferior product. I bought one of the last body torque jerseys and to say I felt ripped off is an understatement, especially when compared to the previous body torque effort.

I can't see that the demand is so high that we need to do a whole run of 25+ jerseys ASAP - so far we have 4 men's and 2 women's orders from this thread. I think if a few people get involved (Weiyun has already volunteered to help out) the lead time would not be increased too dramatically.

+1.

We've already delayed it so long that an extra month or two won't make much difference. At the end of the day, a good value club jersey would bring more club pride while a poor one would just aggregate negatives.

The only rationale for staying with Body Torque is if they are markedly cheaper and we can bring the $100 price tag down to lower the barrier to purchase, one that matches the quality.

I've a body torque (made in australia) jersey - no website address on it, whatever run that was. It's the best jersey I've had, if perhaps a tad too big. Has only started to fade lightly. Go for quality...

Is there a need to avoid sponsor on jersey, but have on butt?

Put me down for one Ladies Large (12). I am prepared to wait for better quality. The one I bought last year, I never wear as the size is all wrong. I like the ladies ones that had no elastic at the bottom. But I'm fussy.

T-shirts sound like a good idea, I have a designer on the case for a T-shirt, and happy to get prices. This may be the cheaper alternative for those that don't want to spend much on a jersey, (Saturday slowies riders), or supporters as Stuart mentioned.

I have a few jerseys in medium.

Hey guys I was doing the asking around last night of what other clubs are using & the one which looks good is champion system clothing who Randwick are currently using.

http://champ-sys.com/

The pricing is good. They do an excellent range from long sleeve jerseys to arm warmers, skinsuites, everything really. They sponsor a number of pro teams & the quality looks good.

But before we think about changing suppliers, I spoke to Grant & if we can list all the current issues people may have, i.e sizing material etc. we can talk to body torque & see what changes they can make. It would require a lot less work to try improve the current jerseys than move to another supplier.

I also notice that the jerseys and nix that Brat's have, are made by a brand called cannibal (australian). I just noticed the padding in the shorts was pretty good and the actual jersey is nice fabric and fit.

www.cannibal.com.au

Just another option if you were looking around for next year. THis year Brats were charging $60 for the Jersey and $65 for the nix, for a special print which I think wasn't too badly priced, then again there print run may be a lot higher than ours.

Although I have had a look at that site SImon mentioned (Champion) and the bib nix look pretty good too.

Simon, given that we have more helpers in making sure the next run of jerseys will be a good one, maybe you'd like to delegate out some of the work to a few of us so that you aren't burdened with all the time consuming liaison. Just let us know. I understand that some here are also in desktop publishing, so reworking the AI template file shouldn't be too difficult.

Looking forward to some spanking good looking DHBC jerseys for 2009!

Sounds good. I"ll be looking into this week. The plan is to first find out what changes body torque can offer us in terms of improvement. Get more large jerseys to fufill the needs of those who are requesting them. Then look at what can be done to improve the clubs clothing this year, ie skinsuites, hats & if need be look at a new supplier. At each stage I will be more than willing to delegate if people want to do it.

I have 3 points in relation to the Body Torque jerseys... (This is just feedback for future negotiations. I'm not trying to be negative.)

- Of all my cycling jerseys, my DHBC jersey is the one that smells the worst. I only have to have it on for a few minutes, and it reeks. Most of my other jerseys smell much better, even if I wear them longer.

- Also, the size of my DHBC jersey is weird. I am a Large in all other jerseys, but when I tried a Large DHBC Jersey on it was very loose around the neck. I now wear a medium, and it's still loose around my neck.

- I think the pricing is quite high. The quality of the DHBC jersey I have is not the best, and at the price I paid, I would have expected better quality.

On a positive note though, I do like the longer zip it has.

Now that explained a lot!

For something even better, I'd suggest looking at full length zipper for the next jersey run. They work so much better and less tear on the jersey as they don't have to be pulled off.

Found a US source for Nalini custom jerseys.

http://www.redroseimports.com/Nalinicus ... elist.html

http://www.redroseimports.com/Nalinicustom_jerseys.html

US$49 for short sleeve full length zipper jerseys (21-30 pieces). A$78 is hardly expensive. I've written to Nalini and have yet to find their local distributor and our local prices.

If a new supplier is source you might well upgrade or change the design of the jersey. The design is about 2-3 years old. My opinion club jersey design should be upgraded every 2-3 years to keep the club moving forward and make the club grow. Good timing.
From the responses DHBC members are unhappy with the quality of the jersey. Why there is a need to invest more jersey to new members if quality is bad? We all want to belong to something, but not at this quality. Too may guinea pigs already.

Eric, I disagree. The reason Jerseys update every few years is to accomodate a change in sponsor. Although I wish we would allow a sponsor on our jersey, there is a small number of club members who object to having a sponsor on the jersey. Anyway, this means that we don't have to update the jersey, so if you buy one today, you can be confident that the same jersey will be useable in years to come.

But if we change the design, half the club will have the old and half the new and we will look like cr*p on the road. Either that or everyone has to spend for a new jersey, as if cycling was not already a very effective destroyer of disposable income!
Keep the design, I say.

Ok, I've tracked down Nalini's local distributor in Melbourne.

They gave a sample quote from a recent 3 colour print assignment of 52 units.

Jersey (full zip) x 52 @ $76.09 (+GST).
Bib knick x52 @ $92.12 (+GST)
Skinsuit is $32 extra on bib knick.

Our single coulour style will be a little cheaper and he recommends 31 units minimum for the order to be cost effective with others commercial offering.

So in the scheme of things, Nalini isn't that expensive. The chamois for the bibs are SGP GEL pro chamios, their top of the line offering.

I don't see a problem with making small changes to the design, an evolution of the design that Grant delivered. If the changes are small, then the older designs will still be suitable for competition.

The problem with changes in the jersey are that it is registered by cycling NSW & people in older designed jerseys can be turned away from racing at opens.

Cool. Is there is a set up fee?

& guys just too let you know the club does make a profit on the jerseys, so this price will be marked up.

He did not state there being one but did say that the price drops with increasing quantity. Given that he suggested 31 and above units (for each line of item) being "commercial pricing grade", I'd think that the "setup fee" is already included. To get the full quote, we'll need to provide him with our design file and quantity.

Additional info,

Jersey: Summertime fabric. Standard pro team cut. Choice in 1/4, 3/4 and full zip. The sample quote was for full zip.

Bib: 5 choices of chamois available. Sample quote was for their top end chamois.

Production time is in the 6-8 weeks range except for TdF period when it can blow out to 10 weeks. Nalini has always stayed within 10 days of that quoted time frame.

In relation to club margin, I think that we all expect the club to make a little earning as well as to cover invoice risks. But the goods have to be good or as many have expressed earlier, it would not do the club's reputation any favours. Look for the big picture and don't skimp on little things. A stylish quality jersey will keep our members happy and attract others.

At Heffron its hard to tell who is RBCC due to all the different jersey designs - then you realize we are the only red ones - ipso facto all the others are RBCC in a compedium of different designs. On Sat I even followed an RBCC jersey with Newington Hotel as sponsor - there ya go...

We all know you have a problem with that orangy colour thing.

But I agree with you, it's good to monopolise a primary colour for our club. Red is good.

Given that quantity is king on these orders, it might be good to have a show of hand as to how many people are keen to purchase. We should do what was done in the tyre puncture thread and sustain a list. I'll start and please copy and paste and add your intent. Supplement your name and quantity in the line below (separate by comma). We can sort out the sizing and M/F style later. I am not sure that the club is doing for bib and skinsuit, but have added them just in case.

Providing a quality supplier is used ( our BT jerseys are wearing very badly), Marian would like a womens small and I would like an XXL based on the size of the previous jerseys.

As to Sugoi, they used to be really good and we have a number of sugoi jerseys. Some of these are still going fine after 15 years of regular use. I used to buy the sugoi bibs and the old ones were great. The last ones that I bought lasted less than a year before the lycra fell apart. I contacted sugoi about this and was told roughly "tough". Not impressed at all. Would never buy again.

Geoff(S), just copy and paste and add your quantity. I don't think we should worry too much about sizes as it can be brand specific eg. Body Torque.

Probably whatever is put on the legs of the skinsuit. At the moment it will just be something along the likes of 'Dulwich hill' down the leg in easy to read bold writing, so spectators can't mistake what club we ride for. There is some talk of sponsorship being put on but I haven't heard what...

Where are all our graphic artists, DTP experts in the club?

Simon, there's a catalogue from one of Nalini's N American agent. There are lots to choose from. It may not be exactly the same range for 2009 as our local distributor's but should give us an idea.

Just to correct a sum error.

I am not aware that our DHBC management is ready to order bibs and other items. But by generating this list, we should be able to provide an indication of the demand and possible consideration. Final costing will obviously depend on the quantity ordered.

Just received another piece of info from Nalini's local distributor.
Template designs don't really exist, Nalini will build the jersey and
bib knicks depending on your design, they can completely customize an
outfit to suite ones logos. Graphics work is supplied free by Nalini,
their personal designer does all the Australian artwork, this is why we
have such good results with our customers, every design is unique and
perfect.
Sounds like this may be one opportunity we have to really jazz up our kit if we should decide to go with Nalini. Otherwise all the graphic services are on demand.

Further, the prices quoted earlier was for 3 colours with P&H included to our doors. Their pricing scale is tiered at 21, 31 and 52 units with stepped price drop eg. $4-5 b/n 20 and 21 units.

For order, it's 50% deposit and remainder on delivery.

That's all I've found out. Now it's up to DHBC's management to decide where to next.

Should we think about an update to "101 years of cycling in the inner west?" Could be a nice way to distinguish each run of jerseys ... or a way to get multiple buys from current members?

P.S. Yes - I know this is a late, probably unwelcome, variable. I am happy to be flamed

The question is how tight is the UCI/CA rule on club jerseys. But what's interesting is how our jersey is currently registered with CNSW. And the only image on their file is as below. Looks like that even our current jersey is non-compliant for opens.

this is what i was thinking, i was trying to keep in line with the current jersey. actually its a direct copy.

let me know of any suggestions;for the long sleeve i would like to change the DHBC to a Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club text down the sleave.

Looks good, but needs black knicks. All red is too drapac porche teritory.. Can you try just writing Dulwich Hill BC down the leg & see what that looks like? & last thing is something on the backside, maybe the website?

I spoke with the executive tonight & they said they're happy for a change in brands & to let me sort it all out. As good as the forum is for communication, I want to propose that anyone who is interested in this change, that we meet up in person & discuss what needs done to make this happen & who can do what.

That's a good idea Simon to have a sit down meeting. As I raised my hands previously, I'd be more than happy to participate in the process. If we are going with Nalini, I'd be happy to continue to liaise with their distributor as well as any other company (apart from Body Torque). ;)

May I suggest that we get to discuss,

- Design (preserve current design or implement some modification).
- Styles.
- Manufacturer choice.
- Budget and unit numbers.
- Timeline.
