Dear all
Do you have a pair of old 9 speed 105 or Ultegra Shimano STI road levers gathering dust in the shed that you would be willing to sell?
I am planning on building up an Audax / tourer with a mix of road and MTB gear
Thanks

9 Speed STI levers wanted
The problem with old 9 speed Ultegra levers is they get the Ultegra death. They start to rattle and there is nothing you can do about it. No Shimano lever can be repaired. The only thing you can do is flush the crap out out them with something like Inox. I'm sure a similar thing happens to 105 levers.
My touring bike is also built with a mix of MTB and road parts but I went with bar end shifters as the frame doesn't have down tube shifter bosses. If it did then I would have gone with down tube shifters, but if you go this route be aware that Shimano no longer makes 9 speed down tube shifters. They do still make 9 speed bar end shifters.

Thanks for the warning on the old Ultegra levers
I might go down the path of a road 10sp triple with an 11-28 on the back. That way wheels, chains and other parts are somewhat compatible with the roadbike.
The bike will be for light touring only and not for hauling heavy loads (other than the rider)

Richard,
I have an old pair of 9 speed Ultegra STI levers in the shed.
They are quite bashed up, but were working when I took them off the bike.
The front LH lever is for a triple.
You are welcome to have them for free if you pick them up from Leichhardt.
I replaced them with Dura-Ace down tube levers about 4 years ago.
