I saw this on SMH's site today

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/cyclists-mowe ... -rz7v.html

4 cyclists were hit by a truck while riding in the break down lane of the M4 this morning, sadly, one of the cyclists was killed. The other three are in hospital with serious injuries.

My condolences to the family of the cyclist involved.

James

Seems the trucking company was also the one that killed a 55 year old male sitting in his car in the breakdown lane on 23/3/10 -= he was chatting on his mobile and the same type of truck cleaned him up .... not good at all. Are they being pressured to drive too fast to meet deadlines or are their drivers just incompetent f'wits? I hope the 27 yr old does goal time. Condolences to the families involved.

Police confirmed last night that the company for which the truck driver was working, Penrith Soil and Sand, was involved in a fatal road accident two weeks ago on the M7 motorway.

The head of the police Crash Investigation Squad, Senior Sergeant Peter Jenkins, said the two accidents bore striking similarities. ''In both cases the trucks involved were tippers with dog trailers veering into the breakdown lane,'' he said.

In the March 24 accident, a 51-year-old man from Kellyville died as he was talking on his mobile phone when a truck pulling an extra trailer collided with his station wagon that was stopped in the breakdown lane at Quakers Hill. Fatigue may have been a factor in yesterday's accident, a source said, and WorkCover is involved in the investigation.

A Channel Nine camera crew were waiting for the drivers to come to work the next day. The person they said was the driver of the truck concerned was wearing a green t-shirt which said "Kill, baby, Kill" on the front of it...

Haven't seen that one, interesting that its the same trucking company as the one that killed the guy parked in the brake down lane a couple of weeks ago

It was on the TV news Tim, but I wasn't recording it. Apparently it's the name of a band.... but I somehow don't think that was exactly why he was wearing it.

He seemed a bit surprised there was a media crew there.

just found out today that one of our regulars in the shop rides with the group that was run down.
We were told that the group is normally 8 or 9 riders.
