I want to try my first Crit this weekend and I have been told I can race on my invoice. Lyndsay says he has sent in my license request and cheque and I was wondering if anyone knows how I can contact him or Geoff to find out if there is any documentation I can get to allow me to ride?

NO racing at Heffron this ANZAC long weekend.

There is no racing on a Saturday at Heffron on a public Holiday long weekend. It just gives the volunteers who bring you racing nearly every week of the year a break.

I will be taking advantage of my break and racing at Oatley Park with St George club. A challenging circuit if anybody else is interested.

I live in Mortdale which is 5 minutes away. And I roll into Oatley Park at around 1:45pm for some warm up laps. Entry fee is $5.

Is it as good as HP.

Any cross winds to worry about.

Bumped into Paul, the South Australian rider, he didn't know that Heffron wasn't on, so he's now coming to Oately too.

Later I bumped into Tim an ex RBCC rider turned Triathlon, he rode it 3 years ago and describes it has hilly.

Beanzy, great file. When I race there my heart rate is usually a straight line at or around 165bpm. Thats how hard I work! Hopefully, I can soon get a handicap that puts me in a group of larger than three.

The circuit is quite smooth and nice in general. Much better than Heffron Park (which I would not describe as a smooth course). There is no risk of ending in the drink. Its not that close. There is at least one 'hazard' area, which is at the bottom of the hill where racers are meant to do a u-turn around a tree and climb back up (lowest point in the file supplied by Beanzy). You always need to take the turn slow as the things (nuts ) that come down from the tree can cause slippage. So always turn slow. One thing to note is that the main hill is a two way traffic proposition so always ride to the left. There is also one hairpin at the other end of the circuit. Hold your line there and you'll be fine.

So the course has this main hill which you descend, turn and ascend and, after that, it undulates. You go for eight laps. It is the hardest of all the club races I have done (i.e Heffron, Sutherland and Oately), but it is worth a shot. Do not be discouraged. Its great fun. I find it more fun than either Heffron or Sutherland (must be the hard work I guess).

The circuit is around 3km, and eight laps make it aprox. a 24km race. My best time ever was 43min 5sec. The best manage around 39mins. My best ranking was 6th and that was last year. It sometimes gets windy, or so I am told. This might sound funny, but I am one of those people who do not pay much attention to wind. Its true. Don't laugh.

I know its a bit of hike for some, but this is an opportunity to give it a try. Put on your red top, stick $5 in your back pocket and head to Oatley! 2.30pm on the line!

Any recommendations on the route to ride there from the inner west

When I ride to Marrickville, I do either the M5 or Canterbury road/marrickville road. But you might think neither is a viable option that time of the day.

Google maps suggests canterbury road -> turn left into bonds road -> straight ahead all the way and cross forest road and down boundary -> right turn into gungah bay road -> right turn into Oatley park avenue and all the way into the park.

Another alternative is Homer street -> William Street -> Moorfields Road -> right at King Georges road -> left into Broad Arrow Road -> Left under the bridge and left again immediately into stoney creek road -> right at george street (roundabout) -> right at Forest Road -> Left at Morts Road -> right at Universal avenue -> cross boundary road and left into gungah bay road -> right into Oatley park avenue and all the way into the park. (If you use this one, you'll be effectively passing my house).

Or call me and I'll meet you somewhere around town and we will ride there together.

I have been out that way and I usually follow the railway line past beverley Hills onto stoney creek road then forest road turn left at boundary street then I am almost there.

If you want to go the easy way I can take you by car.

When I ride to Marrickville (via other routes) it takes me 30-35 minutes at a moderate pace. Add 5 miuntes from my place to Oatley. And then add some more for easy pace. 45-50 minutes? around that I would say.

Sounds interesting. I ended up winning that Crit at Kuringai. D grade and by enough to suggest I should possibly be C grade.
Can't make tomorrow but how often do they race it sounds like an interesting course?
