One of DHBC favourite events is on 18 July 2015 - the NSW State Team Time Trial Championships and like the last couple of years it will be in Nowra. Last year we entered 11 teams.

Now is the time to start sussing out a team and some have already assembled theirs.

What you need for a team:
- 4 people of the same gender and ability all with a gold (race) licence and DHBC kit.
- some men's teams will be able to enter the 150+ category. That means your 3 youngest riders' ages must add up to 150 or greater. So if you have a 30 year old in your team, you're going to need 2 60 year olds plus someone 60+.

If you haven't got a team and want to join one - put your name below and someone is likely to snap you up.

If you are a woman and want to race in a team, then contact me. Last year we had one women's team and a number of them men's teams set a benchmark to beat us. Congrats to those who did. Commiserations to some others :-)

And consider making a weekend of it in Nowra. There'll be racing all day Saturday and the Nowra to Sassafras and back Handicap race. Last year 1st and 2nd were taken out by DHBC riders, Rob Webber and Andrew Mattes respectively.

Interested in a time trial team of likeminded and paced individuals:

Andrew Mattes (don't like my chances in the road race this year)

I'm actually going to be in the country this year Eleri, so count me in. I may even train a little beforehand...

I reckon we could run TWO women's teams this year! That'll give the boys something to worry about. Imagine the horror of being beaten by the Ladies B team :D .

Well I can put my hand up to captain the B team as I certainly am in no form to ride in the A team (even with a TT bike and sperm helmet).

Who is interested in being on the women's team?

THREE WOMAN'S TEAMS!!!! We shouldn't self assign though. About a month out we can each do an ITT around the park to see where we're all at, and then we can practice in those teams. My 2 cents worth.

For those without gold licenses (ahem, including me) an upgrade to gold at a reduced price can be made halfway through the year (last time I checked). (Just in time for RAW too!!!). Or we can organize day licenses (for about $30).

Isn't it Jo L now?

I'd love the opportunity to be a member of the first team to get 'chicked' by the B team.

I'm in.

I'm keen.
First ever TTT so if I end up being on the team that gets beaten by everyone it will still be a PB.

Hi Jo,

I could be interested ... give me something to aim for when back on the bike from these broken ribs. My time trial experience is limited to an Individual Time Trial at Calga in Feb this year

Sounds good Jacqui.

Agree Camilla - that might be the best way to do it. Will depend on numbers too.

35 years of Jo S is a tough habit to break.

As mechanic, domestic and support car driver for one WMAS team, I understand that the same four from last year are backing up in 2015 ....

I am racing but will go in whatever team I get allocated to. We've got some blokes to beat after all. But I have got a TT bike - just saying'. Still can't climb though.

The way it worked out last year was pretty good - the 2 that couldn't climb made up for it on the return. :-) And with Eleris TT bike - we'll make up those pesky 6 seconds easily. LOOK OUT BOYS.

To all + Laura,

My group from last year are all going out to train tomorrow (1st May 2015) at Centennial Park tomorrow.
They are meeting at the cafe in the centre of the park at 6:30am
You'll expect to see:
Jonathan Coyle
Paul Lui
Steve Castle
and Rob Dash... out there.

It was be roughly a C28 level of riding tomorrow.

I'm a maybe at the moment depending on what the weather is like tomorrow morning.
All is welcome to join.

Hi all,
I've heard a few people chatting amongst the bunches lately about considering forming a team for the Nowra TT. This will be my third year this year and I can't recommend it enough. Put yourself out there, start a thread on the forum, you will have a team of four before you know it. The course isn't long. If you can ride to Waterfall then you will be fit enough to do this ride. It is a lot of fun and competitive and I'm sure you will enjoy it!
Cheers,
Cam

Thanks for the reminder Cam. Yes it's a great event and even better is the after party!

The masters 'a' team is looking for an additional rider. We rode with 3 last year, hoping we can get one more strong rider for this year.

Cheers

Simon

Attention men's masters, I've sent out an email gauging interest for this event. If you didn't receive it and would like to participate, please contact me via PM. Not including the valley wheelers or Craig's team.

Cheers

Too late to express an interest in a women's team? If so, I would still be keen to do some TT training in the lead up.

Perfect Emma. That gives us a full team if I can persuade Michele P.

I haven't done much about accommodation or anything yet.

We don't need accommodation for the TTT, it starts late enough to drive down prior.

Most stay for the road race on the Sunday and stay overnight for that, but even that can be driven to on Sunday if your super keen to spend Saturday night at home

Cool. Lets get persuading then! I have a friend who lives down that way so may stay down there but if the team was going to do something team-y, I would be down for that too.

Great Jo! Can I leave it to you to rope in one other lady?

I can train Monday, Friday or Saturday (sometimes). I can also do a Wednesday OR Thursday in lieu of a club ride but would prefer not to! I'll try and find you guys on Facebook and PM you my mobile number :)

Due to Adam getting hit by a truck while commuting (he's relatively OK with only a broken shoulder) the house that houses the Carbon Cranks and the women's masters team (needs some kind of snappy name really) now has a spare single bed on Fri and Sat nights in Nowra for a guy or a girl. PM if you're interested.

The retro DHBC Valley Wheelers entered 3 steel teams this year. The 'Men of Steel/Gun Team', the 'Shambles' and the 'Valley Wheeler's Chuff Chuff'.

All 3 teams rode in the Masters 150 year + category (3 youngest riders' ages must add up to 150 or more) challenging other rival teams on stiffer and much lighter aero carbon fibre bikes.

The 'Men of Steel/Gun Team' comprised Alister Simington, Peter Bownes, Marc Rerceretnam and Roger Webber and ran their fastest time ever (since 2012) of 1hr 13mins 5secs. They came in 14th out of the 21 teams in their category. Not bad for a bunch of guys who were clocking 1hr 18 min back in 2012, who also coincidentally don't know how to train properly and their 4 bikes collectively weigh more than some individual DHBC riders.

Image

The 'Shambles' team rode a respectable 1hr 23 mins 10 secs. This team comprised Chris 'Toff' Harris, Andrew Belford, Ray Patton and Peter Tregillgas. Ray was riding a super rare 'Mick Mazza' road bike.

Image

And last but not least, team 'Valley Wheelers Chuff Chuff' was led by Lachlan Burnham, Lindsay Munks, John Johnson, Jonathan 'Stretch' Fowler.

Image

A post race pic:
Image

Also think we should recognise the fine effort of the 'DHBC Challenge Team', comprising Laura Green, Jonathan Wong, Ben Ford, and Neil Moxham. They came in 2nd in the new TTT 'Sassafras Challenge (Mixed)' category. From research done by some of us club historians (JohnJ), this is the first time a DHBC team has been in the top 3 winning teams in a CNSW TTT event. The last time was in 1954 when it was called the NSW Premierships. Congrats to Laura, Jonathan, Neil and Ben.

Image

.... and the icing on the cake. Here is a picture of one of the DHBC team bikes probably used in the above mentioned 1954 race. DHBC club member, the late Jack Wolstenholme's c. 1948 Alcon road bicycle.
