Hi All,

DHBC Member and CNSW Board Member Jacqui Bogue has spent a lot of time putting together a programme to encourage more women to ride. That programme has now been released! A number of Sydney clubs have got together and are offering women only rides around Sydney, DHBC included. Note, this is different to the 'She Rides' initiative. I understand that is paid coaching for women and is driven by Cycling Australia (rather than CNSW). The 'She Trains' is free of charge and run by volunteers at the clubs.

More information can be found here.

These rides will finish and start at the same point and are aimed at those who have been riding but want to become more comfortable on the road and in a bunch. There is also the added advantage of being mid week rides rather than just, for example, Saturday Slowies.

The following is required:
1. A road bike (with dropped handle bars)in good working order with pedals & cleats
2. Experience riding a road bike
3. A current recreational (silver) or racing (gold) licence through Cycling Australia /Cycling NSW http://membership.cycling.org.au/Home
4. If not yet a member, you can purchase a one-off 3 month recreational licence for $28 or an annual recreational licence for $97.

And here is the link to the calendar.

DHBC's rides will start on the 12th Feb and will run bi-weekly. We will be leaving Marrickville Post Office at 530 to meet the bunch at 6am before heading to La Perouse and back. Coffee will likely be at Queens Park Shed. Note, the ride will not be returning to Marrickville. All DHBC women are welcome. If any men would like to come to accompany their wife, daughter, mother, aunt etc. we certainly welcome that but please let us know.

All the other club rides are women only but are certainly open to anyone interested.

Hope to see some people out there!

Hi Everyone,

Love to see DHBC women and female friends of all DHBC members along on these rides.

The rides are designed for women who want to ride more and are looking to increase their skill, confidence and/or fitness to join bunch rides. There are a variety of rides offered ... short, long, hilly, flat so there is something for everyone. And if you cant ride to the start on your own, bring a friend or throw the bike in the back of the car

Thanks Jo for the great write-up! Feel free to contact me for further information or contact the ride leader

Hi Jo and Jaqui

Do you know what time the group expect to be back at Centennial Park at the end of the ride?

Hi Jenny,

I would envisage the ride would take approximately 1-1:15 hours? Happy to be corrected on this by someone. It's approximately 1.5 hours from Marrickville to St. Jude's coffee shop and this is substantially shorter.

I'm looking forward to it. I won't be able to ride this Thursday, I am aiming for 26/2/15. Is the 6am meeting place in Centennial Park?

Found it. Sorry I had not looked at the ride details, only the calendar on the Cycling Aust website.

The next Women's Ride is on tomorrow morning.

Robertson Rd Gates at Centennial Park at 6am or from Marrickville Road Post Office at 530am.

The forecast looks OK but if it is raining the ride will not go ahead.

Experienced riders welcome!

Great ride this morning. 10 riders and coffee!

A few women have expressed interest on us running this past the March date. We've often discussed running a permanent women's ride. As this one appears to be gaining interest we may well establish this as just that.

I'm unlikely to make the ride tomorrow (Thursday) due to a pinched nerve in my neck (ouch).

Can anyone (female) please give Eleri a hand? Leaving the Post Office at 530am and picking up Eleri on Wilson St on the way?

It's a very cruisy ride to La Pa, a good recovery ride for anyone who rode this morning. :-)

Women's ride is on again tomorrow. 530 from the Post Cafe or 6am from the Randwick Gates.

We go the Slowies route so I can also pick you up on the way.

New riders are welcome and encouraged!

Watch this space if the weather is looking dodgy.
