Sorry to anyone who showed up a few minutes past 6 to find that there was no one there. We rolled out about 1-2 minutes past 6am.

Well done to Phil and Matt who had their first run through the National Park.

Special mention to Huw, who missed us at Marrickville (along with Geoff), rode to the North entrance to the Park (at Audley/Sutherland), and met us only about 500m short of the Garie Beach Turn off. He the promptly turned around and rode back out with us.

Hopefully I can be in better shape in a fortnight and we can tackle it the hard way...

Word of warning though, if I do ride in a fortnight on the RNP ride, expect for the bunch to leave pretty much dead on 6am.

A fantastic ride through the park yesterday, though I still prefer in at Audley and downhill back from Waterfall along the highway to Sutherland. The less time you spend on that part of the highway, parts of which are posted 100kmh, the better.

I rode RNP with Paul who is over 40, took up riding less than three months ago, never done a bunch ride and never done anything close to 95km's. We stuck with the 6:00am bunch until the BP just past Sutherland where we stopped so he could dilute the gatrorade drink and it gave us an excuse for a steadier pace from that point (we still caught the bunch at 7-11 though).

If you don't go to pot in your 30's and 40's (don't grow a spare tyre!) and maintain some fitness (Paul was a runner but it's too hard on your knees to do forever), it's amazing what you can do on the back of just 2.5 months of riding, and then only the weekends. Go the plus 40 y/o's!

Cheers,
Alan

Makes me feel better for repeatedly getting dropped by Alan on the Grand Parade.

I turned 42 in October. The RNP for me is a real challenge, that is the Waterfall in Audley out, I;ve been told the Waterfall exit is even harder. dragging my 92kgs (slight car tyre?) up those hills adds to it. Well done, I saw you guys coming out onto the highway as I was heading to 7-11. I'll try to build some more fitness with view to RNP

Ah the 3 of you are MMAS3. Combined with me (MMAS4) we could do a team time trail in MMAS3 category.

Interesting idea. Needs some real life testing and preparation. If we have a regular group of 5 or 6, then we are more likely to have at least 4 for any race through the year.

I think the Audley exit is harder, even though it's shorter, it's also steeper especially at the bottom and more consistant, while waterfall exit flattens out for a while with a short kick at the end. The issue with the Waterfall exit is it involves the steep climb when you enter at Audley, which is probably the hardest climb in the park, though you avoid the long climb after the waterfall descent. I guess you get the good and the bad.

I'm thinking next year i'll add in a monthly Bulli Pass ride.....

Nay, you are one year younger than me... :P

But as I said, we should have 5-6 riders in our masters category so that there's some redundancy. Given Mike's strength, I think it would an advantage for the team.

Don't worry, I'll just make you suffer in C grade, assuming that Huw hasn't been put back up to B and will make us all suffer.

I think Weiyun is right Mike. 5 or 6 of us would be good. Even if you (and he) are a tiny, wee bit, older. Maybe we could go with the "Beatles" era Team rather than the 1965 Team idea.

whataya mean about making me suffer? We are on the same team dude.

Shouldn't it be, "Together, we will make RBCC/Easts suffer, as we utilise all planned team moves, to ensure the Red and the Black stands proud on the podium"?

How much team tactics are permitted in Heffron Park's criterium races?

I've seen some in the past, from smaller clubs. I remember once when Kieran was out in a break with 2 guys from another club, in C Grade. They seem to work well together against him. From memory tho he managed to just take out first. After he had sprinted for the line twice (he mistook the line on one 'reverse course' events, where the finish line was 200 metres up McEwen Straight)

Thanks for the invitation. My son is having his birthday party which is an overnight camp in the backyard.

So I won't get to race, nor do the Sunday morning ride!

I will however, get the fairy bread and fruit juice ready, so my son can have a great 'Don's Party' on election night!

Enjoy the ride. Hopefully Weiyun, Lindsay and others can join you, and you guys can make the move!!!
