I've entered Ride for Life, and Kurrajong (the week after). Still have 40mins to decide on the Sydney Road Titles, which is really just a high speed training ride for me (just hang on the back as long as i can).

yeah but its 30 bucks and a lot of travel, to which i dont last much longer than half a lap!

I last at least half the race, but usually get bored, and it's even worse when it's wet. I think i'm skipping it this year.

I've entered the Kurrajong Classic. Not really sure its the best race for me at the moment but there are thin pickings at this time of year.

Road Titles

Alex had 20 laps we didn't wait for him

Mikes report
participated in 4 attacks in the first 3 and a bit laps, the last one I got away with a Penrith rider and a Paramatta rider. This meant that a sizable chunk of the field, including Mark didn't do any work. We worked well together keeping a smooth pace while at times the bunch would get closer and at other times the bunch would get further away. The max we got ahead was about 1/2k, but generally it was less. We stayed away until 1/2 lap to go. At times I thought we had pulled it off

Marks report
The pack gained some time on Mikes breakaway on laps 5 & 6 but then it fell apart as everyone wanted someone else to work. Even though we slowed we knew we were going to catch and that happened on lap 8 with 2k to go. Was in the middle of the bunch for the sprint.

Average speed 40.2kph, though the speed varied a lot. At one point I felt like getting on the front as they had really pulled up and I wanted to keep my legs warm.

I'm a proud HAB today as Jo has defended her SRT WMAS4 with Gold and 4th across the line overall. I'm sure you'll get a ride report soon - she's changing her wheels back from the Zipps for Waterfall tomorrow.

Great result Jo! we want the ride report!

I was pretty lucky today as the race pace and terrain suited me......no hills, no huge attacks, and a cafe ride till the sprint. It was no where near as hard as last year!! I did join in on a couple of attacks, but generally I marked who I knew were the strong riders and got a wheel where I could. Lets face it, there were much better endurance riders there today, so conserving energy and getting near the front before the straight was all I was aiming to do. On that track positioning in that last lap is key and you have to be top 4 or 5 before the winding corners.

It was a gorgeous day today, I think a lot of DHBC girls would have enjoyed the race. There is talk of a woman's race on the same track on the Long weekend in October, maybe even a womans B - so ladies - I will give you heaps of warning. Be nice to see a big DHBC woman's contingent, elite and masters.

Good luck to those doing the Ride for Life - or as I call it "The ride for Death". Wasn't that the race where there was mass carnage last year and where Matty broke his collarbone?

Yes last year that rain was horrible. We were soaked to the core in water and mud and due to me not rinsing my knicks properly in the wash, during the race a rider behind me actually had to tell me my knicks were foaming. Not a good look! Aimes - next year you will be a master so you will probably race with us as they throw all the woman's masters in together. I can see it will turn out to be an endurance race and you making it very painful for every one.

Hmm I am going to contact cycling NSW on the exact rules of masters age holding Elite licenses. My understanding is if you are masters age but hold an Elite license you can race both. I will have to find out about this, as id like to race Elite in certain events and Masters in others ie track

Yes i rode slowies this morning and Stu said about your knicks foaming mid race last year - thats quite something. I bet the girls behind you thought they were imagining things!

I'll explain how the license works at the cafe tomorrow.

Though I didn't come away with a medal, I'm feeling pretty pleased with my ride, though in the end my breakaway didn't bring home the bacon, it was the best breakaway I've ever done, worthy of a photo of the breakaway team. Forgot to mention earlier that Mark did all the right team mate things. In one of the unsuccessful breakaway attempts he was on the front trying to control the pace and in the big one he sat in and didn't do any work.

l also thought that if l went from that far back that l may drag the bunch with me.
The bunch was disorganized and with another 2 or so riders l think the breakaway could've pulled it off!

Wow, wicked heartbeat. That chunk just past the 10 minute mark, where it sits between 210 and just under 230, I think that's where I had the double attack, getting away on the second one. Your heart rate is freaky, minimum for the race appears to be 170 and the bulk of it is 190+

Oh well, thought I might as well put up a writeup for ride for life

Matt was right

Just Tim and I in C. Pace was slow with some half baked attacks. Sat on the front every so often, didn't really matter where I was cos it wasn't that fast. I was surprised to lap 2 riders and one of those a second time. 3 laps to go I was looking for Tim's wheel but the RBCC rider had it, but on the last lap I got Tim's wheel. Tim went to sprint and pulled his foot and that was Tim's and my race over. We rolled to the line holding pace with the other riders in about 8th - 10th place when some turkey decided to squeeze himself between me and the rails. On the way thru he brushed against me, then he veered across the front of me taking out my front wheel with his rear derailleur, sending me down the road. Got to be some of the worse riding I have ever seen, was 8th so important, the podium only went to 3rd. There was enough room on the right of me for 2 - 3 bikes, but yet he choose to use the gutter to get past, an impossible move. He also lacked the manors to come and see me after the race. The course communisure (spelling?) came and saw me and we had a bit of discussion about it, during which I also mentioned that everyone makes mistakes but we still need to be pulled up about it when we do. As neither of us knew who he was, that was the end of it.

Stat's on the speedo, which isn't working now showed average speed 37.5kph, max speed 58.5kp, which is what I would of been doing when I came off. Finished something like 10th, though my bike placed better than me.

The SES patched me up, at that point I fault I wasn't that bad, I'm sure glad I had leg and arm warmers on, I've lost more skin than in any other crash despite having them on. Greg from TWE retrued my front wheel, the spokes are a little bent but he recons its OK, so unless I find other damage, its just the hoods on the leavers.

As you know I rode back to the cafe and then home, perhaps the body was still in shock, because it ceazed up later in the day. I texted 40 instructors to get my Monday 6am spin class covered and no one could do it, so Monday morning I caught a taxi to North Sydney and stood on the stage instructing, ie not riding. All my other classes this week are covered and I'm catching the train to work.

Xrays showed no broken bones, so I'm lucky. I've got a number of smaller injuries, it would seem that the force was distributed across the body and I suspect that I'll be fit to ride in 1 - 2 weeks. In the meantime I'll bleed money as I don't get spin pay.

And that's my 3rd DHBC skin suit that's died.

Had some more xrays today;

Xray result: non displaced rib fracture, left 9th rib

They also spotted my 2009 injury: There are numerous old healed right rib fractures in the mid axillary line involving ribs 5, 6, 7, 8 and possibly 9.
