First time trial ever, 35:29 for the 18.6km. Average HR of 174.

My goal was keep my HR around 180 and then crank it up at the end. I coudn't do that because it wouldn't go over 175. Found that out when I was warming up and knew it wasn't a good sign. I think I was tired. I planned to try and do a 32km average and ended up doing 32.8 or something.

Was also lucky to have my chain drop half way... Amy had the same problem. Didn't think I would be changing on the front and perhaps I shouldn't have.

Gives me something to improve on anyway.

Yeah - I totally had fun, I had some issues with my front de-railer but none that would have effected the result of me not getting a podium finish. My max heart rate is 185 and I averaged 172 - so I guess that tells me I probably could not have gone too much faster. Winning time was 33 and I was at 35.19 or some thing. A bit more experience, specific TT training, Tri bars, and learning how to punish ourselves a bit more in a race - will definitely help all us girls next year. A double congrats to Camilla who has done bugger all training who clocked a great 34 minutes. Ted - she definitely deserves a heart rate monitor for Christmas (Garmin 500). Eleri - did well on her first TT event also, although I think W5 was one of the hardest categories as you had people like Lise Benjamin in it. Go to all DHBC girls for next year, and well done for your efforts this year. It's probably the most girls DHBC have entered in an event ever. Not sure how Amy went so I am sure some one will update me.

I clocked up my second fastest ride ever. Well at least since the commencement of timing of such things. Anything I did 20 years ago is lost in the mists of time and probably pre the advent of spreadsheets.

Managed an average of 29.8. HR of 168 (180 is max) so that's 93%. Only got onto the small ring twice so pretty happy with that!

But came 7th out of a tough field of 7 - the first 3 were around 4 mins faster than me. I did 38 something. Anyway, room to improve.

Thanks Victoria for telling me the end was near! I really needed to hear that and I thought I still had a way to go. And to everyone else from DHBC who waved on the way up to Central Mangrove.

What I can tell you is that I came 11th, 2 seconds behind Geoffry Baxter and Mark Lacey came 12th out of about 17. I don't know my time, but my speedo had an average speed of 36.7kph. While I'm happy with my result, I'm not happy with my hill climbing, while I was happy with my downhill and flat speed.

Riding back to the start with Alex Simmons, Alex commented on how the temperature dropped by the time MMAS4 got away, increasing air density and of a small headwind. Probably goes part way for explaining why my average speed was only 0.6kph faster than Meangle last week.

Edit: Zip on my skinsuit broke so I had to ride with a bare chest LOL

Well done Jo, Camilla and Eleri! Was super impressed with Camilla's time considering she missed the start. Next thing someone will tell me she was hung over too... Awesome results from all the DHBC girls out there today anyway. The more we get doing this kind of thing the better!

Jo I reckon you did the right thing not using the bars today. It was a bit scary and uncomfortable on the downhill bits, and I went through a pot hole while in them which nearly sent me off the bike. Definately think with a bit more training we can get a bit faster for next year. I think some of it is psychological too, having more experience helps with that.

Amy did a time of 32 something I think. She finished not long after me and had a 3 minute gap so she was around 2 or so minutes faster than my time. I think that put her around 7th or something? Anyway, she had a great result and should be happy with it.

I'm keen to go up and do the Calga TT one day when it's back on. Would be good to get a group of us up for it.

Tim - you don't have to worry about all that HR crap. You are what I would describe as a natural. I am not!

Hehe totally. The girl that won elite women's did it in 28 something. I don't think any amount of training, equipment and perhaps even performance enhancing drugs would get me to the podium!

lol man seriously, add aero bars, and a minute or two will go down! though it requires training, slightly different muscles.

That was one of the funnest days in the saddle ever! And I've had some fun days in the saddle.

Being first DHBC cab off the rank I wasn't there to see everyone come in, but I saw a fair few people take off (timyone minus sunnies - did your eyeballs get sunburnt?). I reckon us Masters Ladies did pretty well for our first time out solo, and will do even better next time round now that we understand the process and have a time to aim for. Sure we all logged a 5th place in our age categories (6th onwards being DNS) but Jo was only 15 seconds off 3rd and Eleri and I only need to shave a few minutes to be truly competitive. Most importantly off all, the "most mangled transponder" award is still firmly held to our breasts, with Jo blithly tossing hers under a 4-wheel drive during warm up.

And yes I missed my start (by about 40 seconds) but although it may have gained me a place it wasn't going to gain me a medal. I was pretty annoyed at first, having actually been organized for once then been given a bum steer by the official (not Emma's Mum), but decided to just get over it and on with it. After that I had a ball. At the 6 km mark I was overtaken by thre girl who started (20 seconds) behind me and we tussled back and forth for about another 8km, both hyper aware of breaking the drag rules as I overtook her on every climb and she overtook me on every decent. At about 14 km we evened out and I can only assume she sat on my tail for the remainder of the event (providing an excellent car sweep) as the other 3 ladies in our group methodically mowed us down. Even that was fun though, hearing the whoosh as they flew past and journeyed on. I had my head down and just went for it the whole way, enjoying like crazy peddling through those sweeping downhill corners.

My only regret is that I didn't push myself hard enough. I could talk at the end and had no desire to vomit. Surely that's not right? And no Vic, I wasn't hung-over! I decided after the TTT that it wasn't a great tactic. Still, so many new lessons for next year. I can't wait!

Yes...I second that motion, what a difference an entourage support crew can make. It was great being able to be a "Diva" at the beginning of the race and phoning in back up when my transponder was run over. Stuey you're a legend!!! Next year we will have Stuart at base camp, all of the team on radio's with Stuart shouting out our orders. I can't wait!

It was a perfect day with weather couldn't have been better. Ideal day to hang out and do a TT.
The red DHBC jerseys stood out, and our riders looked sexier than Fabian Cancellara. A big "well done" to all those who raced yesterday. If it didn't go perfect, don't worry about it. It was a hilly and technical course that would have caught anyone unfamiliar by a surprise. It was worth it if it gave you a time to aim for the next year.

If you enjoyed it, then I would highly recommend racing Calga TT. It is held every first Sunday of the month. I think Calga TTs are better organised, as they have ramp start, and a massive digital clock to give you an idea of start and splits. They have 25k and 50k TTs. The course is hilly as Somersby. I will be missing next Sunday because I am off to Germany to race a bloody long TT, but hope to see more representation from our cylists at Calga in next months.

Tim, my garmin thing says I was at the u-turn in 0:36:56. Since you reached there with me, but started 2 min after me, you took 34:56 on the way out. That means 1:04:42 - 0:34:56 = 0:29:46 on the way back.

Here's the link. Note that the averages would be slightly wrong as I forgot to stop the garmin thingy after the finish. My average heart rate was over 180 for sure, and av speed was 36.8k/1h09 =32kph.

That's a shame that Calga is just as hilly. I think I need a flatter time trial. Maybe around a velodrome...

Those distances above don't make sense, the Masters started a k or 2 before the halfway mark.

Tim, well done, no need to calc the average speed, its pretty obvious that I didn't do 3kph faster, you win the challenge mate.

Next time I ride with a busted zip, I'm wax my chest, to improve hair-o-dynamics...

Poor Mark, I piped him by 3 seconds

I sucked so badly on the hills that it wouldn't surprise me, on the last hill I blew and hit 16kph. However I rocked on the flat and downhill.

You can't compare the return leg with my total time as we started before the return leg rode down to it and chucked a u'ie. So our times are for a distance that is a little more than half the course.

What's amazing is the sheer number of DHBC riders, we have set ourselves bench marks for next year.

Time wise summary for DHBC
Full Course
Alexander CHUBB 59:25.88
Timothy LLEWELLYN 1:04:42.27
Timothy BRIERS 1:04:55.77
Girindar SINGH 1:09:41.69

Part Course Female
Amy VESTY 34:01.98
Camilla NORMAN 34:57.82
Joanne TROUTMAN 35:19.85
Victoria ARMSTRONG 35:29.64
Eleri MORGAN-THOMAS 38:27.11

Part Course Male
Joshua LESTER 27:39.45
Matthew WALLMAN 29:05.56
Christian LEES 30:55.41
Michael CLEMENT 31:26.33
Mark LACEY 31:29.12

I can see some battles for next year;
Tim vs Tim
Camilla vs Joanne vs Victoria
Christian vs Michael vs Mark

l can see some challenges coming up

Like others this was my first ITT and enjoyed the day and the club spirit. l thought l rode a good average race despite not doing much on the bike since the Mudgee races due to illness.

l went out a bit too hard at the start and attacked the first hill, however, l slowed 12k into the race. After a short time l picked up the pace and could see the rider in front of me on the second climb. l worked hard but not all out and caught the rider before the crest and continued to roll ok. l lifted a little after each of the 3 riders had passed me and even thought that l may catch and pass one of them- don't know why l even contemplated the thought, as l was working really hard at that time. l only stopped pedalling once on the long downhill and reached ~63kph in a tucked in position. My cadence was 90 -105 and l wasn't game to scroll to the distance screen in fear it might tell me something l didn't want to know. Surprisingly, thankfully, the 2nd last roundabout was right there and it was almost over, just up the hill and to the line :D

On the day, happy with my ride and surprised with 31:29.12 :D

Mark, it sounds like you were a lot more even than me. I hit 69kph down the hill, probably an indication of the terrain where I caught up what I lost to you in the hills. I think that both of us did pretty good to get so close to Geoffery Baxter.

far out Christian?! the first 12 from your grade, would have beaten first place in masters 1?!

And on a side note, does every body know Barry from Randwick? he was first in his class, and would have come second in under 19's!!

U23 and Elite Men 43km Start: Piles Road
Elite Women 20km Start: Hallard Road
That 43km must be for the old course, according to another cyclist, their computer showed 19.3 for the Hallard Road start and the Piles Road start is less than half of that, perhaps as little as 36k. Has any of the elites got the distance in their computers?

OK, I've got the distances;
36.2k Hallard Road start
19.3k Piles Road start

Now I need a maths nerd to work out average speed
Timothy LLEWELLYN 1:04:42.27 for 36.2k
Michael CLEMENT 31:26.33 for 19.3k

I'm pretty sure I didn't beat you by the 3kph handicap I gave you - victory to Tim :)

mmm let me see...

MC 36.8km/h - TL 33.6km/h = 3.2kph - handicap 3kph = 0.2kph

Its victory to the man with only on "L" in his surname - Woohoo!!!!!

Actually, looking back at my distances from the team time trial. The distance for Tim is actually 36.5km. Therefore, Tims Average is 33.848km/hr.

So, i declare a Tie!! Perfect handicapping choice with the 3km/hr difference.

LOL, there you go Tim. Next time I race with a busted zip, I'll make sure I've waxed my chest :)

If we apply the same formula to Joshua and Alex, who comes out front?

Mike was 36.832km/hr, you were 33.848km/hr, so you were technically .016km/hr in front. However, due to possible inaccuracies in measurements of the distance, the difference is not significant enough to declare a winner.

LOL, I don't think we can get the measurements that accurate, its a draw.

But if you want to buy a round, I won't object.

At the MCCC 17k TT last week it was
Joshua - 25.50
Mike - 28.39

NSW ITT 19.3k this week
Joshua 27:39.45
Mike 31:26.33

Joshua's pulling away from me, about a minute more quicker than me than last week.

I hit 69kph down the hill
Mike, we'd make a good tag team. You can do the downhills, l'll do the uphills and we could share the flats
