Amy, myself and Mark Hales went to Waratah Vets this morning to race. Today they raced at the Homebush Tennis Centre which was an 8am start - how awesome....a sleep in. It was a crit race with E grade doing 45 minutes + 2, and C grade doing either 55 or 60 + 2?
For E grade, Amy got a 4th, I surprisingly got a 1st. Mark H got a 3rd in D Grade - with his grade actually overtaking the C grade. All 3 of us learnt a few things in the race. Unfortunately Amy didn't get out of the small chainring at the front, which would have definitely improved her result!
For anyone that is starting out and wants some racing experience, this was a real great environment in E grade....and they even had an F grade. Certainly in our grade the veteran riders were giving us tips in the race, how to take certain corners, what rider to stick with - a really nice bunch. All except the 2nd place rider who I beat several metres from the finish line. He had a bit of a meltdown saying I overtook him on the right and I shouldn't have, I innocently asked him what he thinks I should have done but he couldn't tell me. I believe I did so safely. He continued berating me by saying lucky I wasn't a guy or... ..so it was easier just to let him let off steam. Everyone else in the race said I hadn't done anything wrong. Apart from that it was great - Marian and Camilla would really enjoy racing with the Vets. All of the other riders were very helpful and encouraging.

Having not raced yet myself I thought that was the idea ( to overtake those going slow in front of you in a sprint finish) or did old mate think it was his "turn" to win or something.

i was going to come out and do this but the other club that usualy runs it with the Vets decided they didnt want to. Could of put on my fake mustache and pretended i was over 30.

I've raced there at Tennis Centre - its a fast race thats for sure with a hairy right hander into the straight

No the prize was pretty good. $50.00 gift voucher at Turramurra cycle shop! NOT BAD FOR E GRADE. Yeah it is pretty good racing, I would really love to do Landsdown - everyone raves about that track. I would like to aim to race this once or twice a month. Mark H, and Mark L who both came a place at Nowra - would probably be comfortable in C grade, so thI guess that is where you would be Mick...or should we put you in B?Great results - Congratulations - did u win some socks Trouty?

Yeah - it is a worry D overtook c, as Amy and I were planning to go up to D....Oh well - as long as we can hang on the bunch that is all that matters. Now Mick - I expect you to train hard whilst I am away....so you regain your winning crown for Winter Series.I've been in C before. So I think thats where the action is for me - its a worry that D overtook though...

Big Stu and I are going to France for 5 weeks and riding for 2 weeks (but I may try and stretch the riding to 2.5 weeks. Leaving 20th May.Were you going Trouty ?
First off NW France then Bordeaux for a week to stay in a friends beach house, then Annecy for cycling (the Tour De France is doing the Annecy time trial track this year), then Cereste in Provence where we will do Alp Duez and other rides in the area, then Nice, then home
I will miss the start of the RAW winter series, but will be home by the Friday 26th race.Micklan....make sure my training partners train on Mondays and Wednesdays.....they like to spend the night talking and not much riding going on. Not to mention any names - Mark, Camilla and Amy!!!!! I will look out for some genus Australopithecus for you Mick. Do they eat Joorke in France?
Hey! Amy blew a tyre and I was practising my flying 250 line! It was just Mark and the Trout up there above the Maddison line exchanging knitting tips. Although when people start offering to be the sommelier you do wonder if you're not putting in hard enough...
