Well the time has come to actually make a decision on what wheels I want for my track bike build. Previously the budget was about $400 and I was leaning towards simply getting a set of Velocity Deep-Vs and then later on buy a good set of race wheels.

Now thanks to several weeks of hard work, I can stretch that budget to the 800 dollars mark. My two current options seem to be Mavic Ellipses, or a set of TWE custom wheels.

Any thoughts or opinions on those wheels? Im open to suggestion of other wheels in that price range as well. Also where would the cheapest place to get a set of the Mavics from?

Thanks

Alex

Overseas mail order. Custom import duty limit is at $1000, so you are safe in that regard.

I'm happy with the TWE wheels I have, they cost $800. The hubs are super smooth. There will be people at the open tomorrow night with TWE wheels, you can always ask them their opinion.

Well for those playing along at home, I ended up going with the Mavics. I had decided on the twes but with christmas and a dose of food posioning Greg rather busy at the moment. So rather than wait (im impatient), I orded a set of Mavics from 'Chain Rection Cycles' in the UK.

Got the pair for just over $550, and I also picked up a pair of Continental Supersonics (20 mm ones). The postage was free as well, so im very happy.

Now to play the waiting game or failing that hungry hungry hippos.

Can i ask what type of TWE wheels you considered shrubb face? Also to Christian what type of TWE wheels do you have?

I ask as i have a voucher for TWE from RAW Track burning a hole in my pocket and have really not investigated anything.

Anybody else got any ideas for me??

Beware i am a "strong and powerful" rider!!

The wheels I have are alloy rims, about 30mm I think with 20 spokes front and rear. The spokes are bladed DT spokes, the hubs are the standard sealed bearings and are super smooth. They set me back $800 and so far I'm happy with them, they are fairly light and very stiff.
