Calling all riders, members and friends.

The club is running its first racing event form maybe 10 or 20 years, so its important for as many of you as possible to come on down to either race (if you're old enough!), spectate and help out.

We've got 27 entrants so far, so there is a good chance the night will go ahead from 5.30pm Friday 7th March. You can check updates on riders below:

http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/files/Rac ... /08038.htm

We will need quite a few helpers (jobs to be allocated closer to the date) to help out with the race organisation, catering, errands etc. I'm gunna list those who are able to make it. Would be great if you could respond by post below if you are available to help. There will be plenty of time to spectate as well.

Attendees/Helpers (Periodically udated)
  • Me
    Grant
    James M
    Lindsay
    Adrian
    othy
    Michael K
    Mike(s Bytes)
    Chris aka Toff
    Simon S
    Sinead
    Bill
    Tim (Caller)
    Simon (depends on work)

The time is listed as 5:30 am on the cycling website - might want to get that fixed. I should be able to show up and have a look.

I'll be an Attendee/Helper too.

We have a lack of Vet track riders, so I should probably enter so there is some DH jerseys out there.

Hey guys I'm going to be back in Sydney by then. I have to find out if they have put me down to work that night but I'll do my best to be there. 75% chance.

I'm sure some of the guys down at the track would give you hand to if you asked them nicely, the Bicisport boys. They could judge and stuff being long term trackies...

Thanks for the tipoff about my club Mike.

I just received my racing licence 2 weeks ago, despite completing paperwork and paying in October. Then they've sent the licence to the wrong address, and now they've arbitrarily changed my club.

Doesn't say much for cycling administration in NSW. Perhaps Rasmussin should train here in winter next time?

Anyway, I've spoken to Cycling NSW & they've now rectified my club, so I won't need to buy a new uniform

I've been in touch with Brian Crawford at Cycling NSW, and since I'm registered as an Elite rider, I'm not allowed to enter Masters events.

I'll be available to help with whatever needs doing on the day.

So the only reason to be an Elite is so you can impress chicks with your racing license? and you pay $15 more for the privilege.

Let's face it, it's not often you get the chance to see your own name and the word 'elite' in the same sentence.

It makes you eligable for elite events like the state titles and team sprint. If you like having some competition, there's very few guys registered as masters 1, 4-5. I guess it makes for an easy chance at a state medal. You just have to be able to beat Brownie if you want to win though....

I thought my Masters licence allowed me to compete in open Elite races. (Similar to a B grader chooseing to race A grade every now and then.)

If I'm wrong then let me know.

I also checked my licence and it says MMAS2. Drat, I could have pulled so many more chicks if only it said "Master" next to my name.

Training is on, but we have banned St George riders, TJB...

Just kidding. Racing is on Thursday, and training Monday & Wednesday. I can't see a problem with you training since you're not in my category. $5 to train & $10 to race.

Monday is also racing at Hurstville, so I may make it Wed or Thursday.

Will Thursday racing be on even with the Masters event on Friday ?

Also, what gear do you recommend for Tempe ?

I'm sure racing will be on this week and next, since Friday is only for Masters, so the Mens/Womens/Juniors can still race on Thursday, as well as any hardcore Masters.

What gear will depend on you and your event. I've sprinted (and lost) to people riding everything from 86 to 96 gear inches. Any more information is a local knowledge which I aint gonna give away.

Wednesday is general training. Thursday is RBCC racing, all welcome. I assume that it will still be on. Matt from RBCC will read this post soon and confirm.

Sorry someone else would need to recommend on gearing.

Not at state titles but it really depends on numbers, this year they allowed and last year I think they disallowed it but if you definitely want to ride an elite liscence will guarentee it...

I would reckon no racing tonight on account of the weather. But we can live in hope. Still raining at 15.30 in riverwood. Radar shows possible clearing but the track could still be really wet.

Racing still scheduled for next Thursday.

So I know what time to clear out of the office today, what time would the organisers like to have the helpers around?

Sometime before 5:30 I take it?

Is there anything I need to bring?

Ahh, major bummer, Sydney's crap weather strikes again. Sorry for you guys and all the effort put into getting the event up and running only to have the elements ruin the party.

They were my first laps at Tempe, a little bumpier than I expected but still fun! The bottle that rolled down the track provided some heart stopping moments, I was happy to keep it upright in the practice as I was on a new bike today!

a disappointing night with the most unfortunate luck of the rain starting just as we began the warm up scratch race. To think... we'd been waiting so long for this to happen only to fall short at the line.

Despite this I still had a really fun night. There is a great vibe amongst sydney's track community. Despite the weather many people stayed around to have a chin wag.

I'm sure it'll be a greater success next time.

As you've probably all heard, the Metro Masters Cup had to be postponed due to rain. Some light drizzle set in during the first race of the night, the warm-up scratch race for riders with even numbers, and the chief commissaire called a break in proceedings to give the track a bit of time to dry. As we were waiting, however, the drizzle turned to bigger spits of rrain, then to a shower. Time was getting away, and many riders sensed that the rain would probably get worse. The BBQ and canteen appeared to do a roaring trade, with the eggs selling faster than they could be cracked, and the canteen running out of cola. By the time we'd agreed to reconvene, the rain had started to set in, and most riders had decided it was time to pack up. Geoff announced that we'd close the event, hopefully to re-run sometime soon, and the heavens opened. And I mean opened - it really pissed down!

The vibe at the track was awesome. Smiles and nerves among the riders and organisers alike. The BBQ was a hit, and lots of people hung around socialising after it was decided to postpone. Better luck next time - see you at Tempe on the 4th!
