Hi everyone,

Sorry about the hiatus in news caused by a combination of bad weather and sickness, so we've plenty to catch up on. It's wonderful to see the wet/arctic conditions haven't dampened enthusiasm for track riding. Two lots of statistics have been emailed for your interest and records this week (a roller session was held the last week in May due to rain).

We have a really great bunch of riders now, especially in the U17 men's category, which is becoming much more competitive as a result, and we are getting new member enquiries weekly. Well done to Alex Kapruziak for an emphatic win in the Miss & Out and Tom Bolton riding U15, who continues to impress against the U17 riders. Congratulations to Francis Teow, for mastering the rollers. You all get medals this week just for turning up in the cold :)

Congratulations also to Caitlin Williams on her fantastic new bike - everyone knows red bikes make you go faster! Welcome to potential new member Tony Achjian, who as a rower and union player, has great potential in store. Hope to see you again soon. Thanks to the always calm and cheerful Phil Kelly for coaching, to Donna & Bill Bolton (hope you're feeling better Bill) for record keeping, to Chris Venville for helping with roller training and all the other parents who contribute and support the riders.

We're sad to have lost Seamus O'Sullivan, who's taking a break from track cycling for now. Seamus plans to keep riding with Saturday slowies though, so we hope to see him on a bike again really soon!

Road Racing
For those of you with a racing licence, who are interested in road racing - there are two top events coming up. These events are being hosted by Phil Kelly and our friends at the Southern Cross Club, on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th of July, at Waratah Park Sutherland. Entries close 3rd of July, so you have plenty of time, but don't leave it to the last minute!

Licences
A licence is required to participate in track riding. The easiest way to get one is on-line at Cycling Australia via the link below:
http://www.cycling.org.au/?ID=39176

Tips to help if the link fails
1. Go to http://www.cycling.org.au
2. Pull down the Membership Tab
3. Choose "Membership Categories"
4. Scroll to the END of the page
5. Click on "JOIN NOW"
6. Follow the prompts

If you wish to train but not race, choose a "Ride for All" licence. This can be upgraded if you decide to start racing later. The Ride for All licence also covers you if you do road or mountain bike riding with the club. Age groups go in two year increments from U9-U19. If you turn nine this year, even if your birthday in in December, you would race in the U11 group for example.

Saturday Slowies & Waterfall Bunch Rides
The Saturday Slowies ride is a great introduction to road riding for everyone. When you're skilled up, fitter and stronger, the Waterfall bunch rides on Sunday, will help you test and improve your cycling ability. Here's a link below for details. Let me know if you need adult accompaniment.

Extracytacular Activities of the Stage Kind
The two Hugo's (Venville & Thompson) have proven that their cycling skills are matched only by their acting skills. The Leichhardt High School students have made it through two rounds to the Grand finals of theTheatre Sports Schools Challenge to be held at the Enmore Theatre on Sunday the 19th of June at 2pm. In the first round they out-improvised seven other schools including a performing arts high school, then finished with the highest score in the second round, where they were the only team from a public school. It's great entertainment, so if you're interested in tickets, you can book through 95503666 or go to http://www.enmoretheatre.com.au.

Incidentally, don't forget to congratulate Hugo Venville on landing the lead role in the school's upcoming performance of Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest". Details as they come to hand.

That's all for now,
keep rolling,

Michelle Brown
