DIARY NOTE: A meeting will be held on Wednesday the 2nd of February to discuss the future of the DHBC Juniors. The Boltons have kindly offered their home in Dulwich Hill and a BBQ or similar as inducement to attend following training at Tempe. Please make time to come if you can.

Hi Everyone,
The wind gods played havoc with Juniors training for the team pursuit on Monday, but we managed to get some good speed and endurance work in anyhow. Wednesday, Phil Kelly put riders through a tough session with plenty of sprints - kudos to the riders who backed up for some flying 200s at the end of the session - especially Chris Hageman who did an impressive 13.96. Full stats have been emailed.

Encouraging Results
Chris Hageman also deserves special mention for qualifying for the finals of the U17 Men's state scratch race at Dunc Gray Velodrome. Hugo Venville also rode well, but didn't make it through to the final. These young riders are setting a great example by training hard and entering lots of races, and it's certainly paying off.

Licences
If you think you'd like to start racing in 2011, you can upgrade your recreational licence via the Cycling Australia website. Don't forget recreational licences expire in March. You cannot ride the track without a valid licence. Recreational Licences for riders 13-18 are $44, younger riders pay only $10. Racing licences for 13-18s are $125 and adults can obtain a senior recreational licence for $77.

Road Racing
DHBC Junior riders with a racing licence wishing to compete (or those who are just curious), can ride out with me and the Waterfall C25s group to Waratah Park Sutherland on Sunday the 30th January for the Southern Cross Club Road races. They begin at 8am, and the ride there will serve as a warm up. You will need to arrange transport home. Let me know if you are interested. All four DHBC Waterfall ride bunches now leave at 6:30am from Mick Mazza's Shop in Marrickville Road, in the order of fasties, middies, C28's then C25's with about 1 min between each bunch. The C25s average 25kph.

Greetings
A big hello to the Wallace family of sisters and their friend who came to check out the Junior track riding this week. We really hope you come again in a fortnight for a try on the warm up track. It'd just be fantastic to see more girls getting a start on the track. Great to have the Bolton family back from holidays too - they don't seem to have slowed down too much during the break! Alex, Seamus, when will we see you again?

I'd also like to wish Jessica & Simon Llewellyn all the best for their month long honeymoon - cycling of course - in Southeast Asia, following their marriage last Saturday.

Coming Up
Women's Training officer, Jess Norman, is planning an 8-week Saturday course for women wishing to get a start in track riding, which the Mums of juniors might enjoy. I'll keep you posted.

That's all for now,
Till next time - keep rolling,
Michelle Brown
