What the bejeezus is goin on with all those derneys?
Those are not those pretend derny's, they are real motorpacing motocycles and the bikes behind are real pacing bicycles.
Posted: 24 Mar 2010, 23:14
by Artson
The forks are bent back and the front wheel is a smaller diameter to allow the rider as close to the motor bike as possible.
The distance to the roller is set in the rules.

heaps good apart from the sqirmish feeling it leaves you with. Not sure quite what Chris Hoy's tactic was sitting so far off Ross Edgar's wheel. He was waiting for another wheel to come by but why put so mch distance between you and the next guy?
Re: Awesome track pics
Posted: 13 Sep 2010, 17:46
by timyone
so you can do a run onto him, its easier to reach a top speed when your on a wheel, even that far off, where as the guy on his right, would be heading into the wind.
Re: Awesome track pics
Posted: 14 Sep 2010, 14:44
by jbcow
Fair enough, I guess the difference between me and Chris Hoy is about 1300w and 30kph. I saw him at Manchester World Classics a few years ago and he was a marvel to watch, they all were.
If I sat that far off in a Kieran, I'd be out of the race. Especially if it was Ross Edgar in front of me. Whoops, day dreams over.

It could be a lightweight disc though, they have carbon spokes on them & are legit discs. Based on the front 5 spoke it is very likely.

That wheel isn't the current offering from Araya, there current wheel is black and is a honeycomb core. The Lightweight disc wheel is that sort of construction
http://www.lightweight.info/index.php?id=29&L=1 . The Sugino T-spoke was another strange one, it has 256 kevlar spokes under a mylar cover.

There's some very nice BT paint jobs out there. My favourate is the scotsman design which is on fyxamatosis I belive. It was for sale not long ago , not cheap though as the paint job was nearly worth as much as the bike!

Aw that's the one! very nice paint job, it's abit like the people that fix up cars though, once the job is done it's abit boring and they want to sell it. Though they may have realised the BT light front end effect also...

Hoy just won the Kieran at a world cup, at his home town, so sorta understandable that he celebrated like that. The crash was just one of many others that hes ben near, its not like the big once off that it is for us.
I think you just have slide burn Mike, was there a splinter involved?

Fair point Tim. I guess I was looking at it from the ammature angle which probably isn't right for this level of sport.

Hoy had just gone around everyone of the guys that crashed, while they were upright and going as hard as they could. He was streets ahead of them, and would have won regardless of whether there had been a crash behind him or not. He has the complete right to celebrate that win.
