If I want to ride DGV on Friday night, I need some new tyres. I've been told the current ones on the bike aren't going to be suitable for riding that track (not sticky enough).

I'm trying to source either a temporary solution that can be used for the next 1-2 weeks, or a reasonably priced permanent solution. If time was not an issue I would be ordering some Conti Supersonic's from the UK. They're over double the price from the LBS.

If you've seen anything going cheap in a LBS or have any suggestions on what I could do please let me know. I could pull the tyres off my road bike but they've done over 3000km which might mean they're not suitable? I'm not really sure.

I don't know the criteria for track tyres and unless someone has an alternative, I have a pair of brand new GP4000S sitting in the spares box that you can borrow while you wait for your UK order. The Black Chili compound on these have excellent grip on the road but no ideas whether they are adequate for DGV.

They need to be smaller than 23's too. We tried Christian's training wheels on Victoria's bike and his 23's were too fat.

This may be sorted if Tim's tyres are 20's. He wasn't sure off hand.

Tank is bringing Jess and I a new set of tyres each to RAW on Friday, so if you can't find anything by then you're welcome to my old ones until you can order some decent ones. The rear tyre was only put on last week (it's a cheapy but saved me from sure disaster, again thanks to TANK - and Lindsay for spotting my old one was about to split!)

Quick fix
a bit of 60-100 grade abrasive paper

a little bit of scuffing and you will get extra grip at DGV

Can you ride a different bike on Friday?

I think riding another bike because of tyres is taking this a step too far. Besides, my knee is causing me dramas this week and riding a different bike isn't wise.

If Tim's don't fit then there is the option of Camilla's and if both of those fail for some reason then abrasive paper should see me through.

Thanks everyone for your help :)

All this talk of tyres, and i had a look at my tyres whilst preping the bike for this evening and the rear tyre is down to the bloody canvas. I don't know how i didnt notice earlier. Luckily christian is going to lend me a wheel for this evening.

But a wise piece of advice for everyone, check the condition of your tyres reguarly.

Just spoke to Alan. For all those out there needing skinny tyres, he has 700 x 18 kicking around his shop.

Yeh I was surprised, as I use the the same tyres as you, admittedly a 23mm on the rear and I've had my tyres longer.

However you do more track training than me and perhaps more significantly more roller training

Apparantely Veloflex Record are highly rated for indoor velodromes: they are seriously light weight. Available from PBK if not at your LBS

I ended up ordering some Supersonic's, but also bought some when I got my new TWE wheels on Saturday. So when the others arrive I will have spares. How cool am I.
