Hey guys along with our attempt to gain a top 3 club finish this year, Crafty has been encouraging me to set up a DHBC point score based on the main point score and the system set up by central coast cycling club to see who the number one rider for the club overall is. It is a bit of fun & is designed to encourage participation. I will come up with prizes for the top 3 finishers & 1st lady...

Here's how it works:

The DHBC Series / Pointscore

The Point score System

Riders receive 10 points for Participation (showing up, 10 points per week)
Riders receive Bonus for competing in higher grade
Div 1 = 1.5 bonus
Div 2 = 1 bonus
Div 3 = 0.5 bonus
Div 4 = 0 bonus
Rounds Three and Four will score 5,3,2 and 1 point for the a top 4 places
Riders can miss 2 of the 7 nights (you receive 10 points)

The system is relatively basic & you'll all get the idea once it starts...

Simon, on www.rawtrack.com.au if you look at the first post on "2009 TWE Point Series" you will find an excel attachment.

Anyway you only missed one rider

It's not quite a representative point system is it? I mean when my name appears above Simon L, Christian, The Tims, the Michaels etc you know something is wrong. I guess it will even out across the 15 nights and also I might go up a group soon and stop getting fake points....

Hoping for a dry night tonight, not sure how many more roller-crashes I can take.

Note - I don't mean to be speaking out of place, but I'll try it anyway. I wonder if the 10 points for showing up should be scaled according to difficulty. So 10 points for Div 1, 6 for Div 5 and incrementing by 1 in between the two. I just can't handle the guilt getting more points for circulating in the middle of the slowies group.

Nah its fair enough :D
This is much more even, there's a little bit of an advantage for being up, and then its all even.
You can only win the race you are in, so you aren't losing out for having been riding less, or having kids and not being able
To train as much and be up a grade etc.

I am fascinated to learn how I got a point. Was it a sympathy point for falling off, or is it a clerical error? Because if I got a point for coming 4th in a 4-(wo)man sprint I'll be tempted to give it back.

Week 4 Bring it!

This week’s Races
• Round 1 Warm up Scratch ….(Hillbrick Series)
• Round 2 “no Wheel-Race This week”
Round 3 Kierins
Round 4 Miss’n’Out Point score ....Div 1 “Duelling Derny”
• Round 5 combines
• Round 6 Race video replays, Cyclists pasta and drinks in the HBT.

Explain these races
Kierin- The keirin is a motorpaced event that is very popular in Japan where it originated. In that country, huge amounts of money are bet on races and professional keirin riders command impressive salaries. It is similar to the match sprint, but features 6-8 riders on the track. A derny motorbike paces the riders from 25 km/h up to 45 km/h for the first few laps. During this time, riders jostle each other for the best position and this is often the roughest part of the event. With two and a half laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and the sprint is on. Team tactics are important here, as the leadout is often quite long. If one team can get two of their riders in the final, then they are at a distinct advantage.
Reference: www.cyclingnews.com

Miss 'N' Out- the bike equivalent of musical chairs, sometimes called the elimination race or "Devil's Race," every lap the last rider across the finish line is pulled out of the race until only two riders remain. The remaining two riders are given the bell and maneuver themselves before the final all out sprint to the finish line. Keep your eyes peeled to the back of the field that's where all the excitement lies in this event.

Miss'N'Out Pointscore- This is a standard Miss'N'out however the derny (motorbike) follows the bunch at 100m. As the riders are eliminated they drop back to the derny and continue till all riders are behind the Derny. The Derny sets a controlled pace for 2 laps than pulls off to leave a Kierin style finish.
• Scoring - in the Miss'N'Out phase, each rider receives the corresponding points to the position they are eliminated i.e. first out =1point .....5th out= 5 points etc. The winner of the Miss'N'out receives his/her corresponding points plus a bonus of 1 point.
• The Kierin phase is scored as 8, 5, 3 and 2 and 1.
• The winner of the race is the rider with the most points.

Duelling Derny This is a motor paced event where by the Derny will start off at a respectable speed (40km/h) with the entire field in a pace line. As riders approach the front of the pace line (back of the derny) they must put their front wheel ahead of the Derny by the pursuiters line in the back straight. They must then maintain the lead by the Pursuiters line in the front straight. If a rider fails to achieve this they are eliminated from the race. The final four riders to beat the derny will claim the top 4 places. The winner is not necessarily the last man standing. Oh I forgot to add that the pace builds.

Hey Camilla,

I guess me doing well in the points is a combination of you not being here, and me just consistently turning up and getting a few 2nd, 3rds and 4ths in races that count. SLow and steady can some times win the race. Last week, a lot of people didn't show to RAW as we had the Metro's on the following day, so I had a few good chances.

Still it is strange, some weeks Div 5 is still pretty hard as there are always newbies coming in that are good roadies. When they split the races into girls and guys I always stand a better chance to get a place. I am sure I will slip down the ranks towards the end of the series. I think it is double points towards end of Sept, so people that are a shoe in to win can easily turn up after missing a few weeks & clock up points and overtake me.

Hope your having a great time in Italy. I know where I would rather be!
