Re: Training Tyres

You can buy cheap tyres and consider them to be "for training", and save $10-20 every 4-6 months. But invariably they offer poorer grip than a premium tyre like GP4000. Question is, how much is a crash worth to you? If it's more than $10-20, then is it worth saving on "training tyre&q...

I think you can save your legs from that Galston climb. Going up through Ryde/Epping (via Blaxland/Beecroft Rds) is pretty straight forward and the road surface is good. I was just up that way late last week. I'd ride that than Pacific Hwy. Now I've fixed my cleat/hip/back problem, I'll see whether ...

That straight stretch of road by the railway line from West Ryde, Eastwood towards Epping is pretty hilly by my recollection. Blaxland Rd is busier but has a regular grade. Traffic shouldn't be too bad at that time of the morning.

Out of the 3 listed, I'd go with Fulcrum R3 as the Eurus is more expensive and exceeded your budget. I would pass on the Mavics. I have both the R3 and Eurus and like both very much. For the difference of some additional rim shaving (weight), the R3 is great value as a high-end-commuter, training an...

Re: Bike vs. Plane

Well, the results are out and the Wolf Pack Hustle bunch beat JetBlue by a wide margin door to door. However, a CBS news van (did it in 1 hour) beat everybody on the virtually deserted freeway. Irony, irony! http://www.slate.com/id/2299432/ And then two cyclists got arrested for riding on the desert...

Oh no... Not the 405 again!

If it's airport gate to gate, then Jetblue will win. Given the commuter sectors, it'll be tight. I am curious which route the cyclist will take. There'll be lots of intersections along the way unless the cyclist takes the breakdown lane of 405.

No crash reports? That's not cycling! Just look at the media frenzy over all the crashes in TdF and that's the sport. It's far better to know the risk and manage it, than ignore and face it as a surprise.

Carbon 5.5 Trek Madone FOR SALE

There are worse things in life than having some one buy you a $6000 bike you don't like. I wish some one would do that for me, I am sure I could resell and find some thing else to spend the money on.
Cash would have preserved the value better. ;)

For $6000, she could have bought her a 0.5-0.75 carot basic quality Tiffany rock. I'd bet the result would have been different, and wouldn't be sold come a break-up. Stupid guy!

There are lots of CF frames that's good enough for Pros to race on. Which is best for you will depend on how you feel. Otherwise wheels will make a huge difference to the ride and you may want to start looking there.

Last year two local boys made a break from the 2nd/3rd(?) bunch on lap 2 in a futile attempt to stay off the mega bunch. They clearly didn't have enough in numbers and was too late. Shouldn't have hung around the slower rider for so long.

Re: Ken Dinnerville 29 May Race - Entries open 7th March

That hill is comparable to Lilyfield hill (going towards the city near Leichhardt Oval) in terms of grade but longer. And adding the pace the combined bunch will hit it (especially on the 2nd and 3rd lap). It'll cause major damage. So it's desirable to get to the front before the bottom of the hill....
