Re: Legs of Steel Omnium - 4pm Saturday 10th March - Tempe
Great write-up Mike. I had a lot of fun. It felt like a real luxury riding my usual bike, instead of a junior's with 70-something gear inches. Amazed at how fast Pat could spin his legs! It's true that Chris's bike had an alloy-like resemblance, but to be honest the kid was moving so fast I didn't h...

I like the idea of the tar'n'dirt ride.
My "city bike" has 28c tyres on it, and 32s should just squeeze in if they're not too knobbly.
What type of tyres would you recommend for this?
Maybe something like these? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=20457

Very impressed by this. I've always wondered how difficult it would be to build your own frame in your garage - this makes all the finer challenges quite clear! What was the issue with the fastback stays? Was the seat tube clamp not already made to suit them? And what head tube and seat tube angles ...

Mike's chain didn't snap, it just came off the sprocket and jammed against the spokes. I'd say, generally, that a chain can't come off unless it's too loose. Being worn out is one cause of a chain becoming loose - another cause is having the axle slip in the dropouts during a ride, due to the axle t...

You could sell that pretty quickly on fixed.org.au. Just have to make sure it goes to a good home, i.e. doesn't get ridden brakeless on the street.

Shimano SPD-SL pedals are very similar to other "regular" 3-bolt road pedals, e.g. Look Keos. These would work fine, but as above, it's quite possible to unclip accidentally when sprinting. Even as a junior, you don't want to be worrying yourself with the idea of unclipping when learning t...

Also, I've never raced in a crit, actually never raced on the road at all, so is this the time/place to have a go? The course isn't insanely dangerous is it?

Re: Omnium this Saturday!! 14/05/2011
Sounds great, count me in.
If a lap counts as a lead and not as points, does that mean that at the end you have a "race winner" and also a "points winner"?

Re: DHBC Giro D’Maggio: Kilometre Grand Tour challenge May 2
So this is what you guys were talking about... I like the sound of it. I did Waterfall fixed this morning. For a moment I was considering finally getting a roadbike, but decided I just need to spin my legs faster. General Classification: 1. Jessica Rainbow 150kms 2. Simon L 150kms 3. Rhys 93kms 4. J...

I just read about this - looks like I've missed out on a good one. Out of interest, how do they work out the handicaps?

Re: My New FIXIE
I'll put another vote in for riding fixed on the road. I've left my road bike back in Tamworth and only ride fixed around Sydney - now when I go home coasting feels really weird. I use 76" for longer rides like RNP etc, 69" on my city bike, 73" the rest of the time, and 51" for m...

Re: DHBC omnium Calender 2011!!!!
Sounds great. Considering I like steel frames, low ratios and longer races, I'm pretty happy with the sound of that.
Also looking forward to getting back to the track next week.

Re: Omnium next Saturday night!! 11/12/2010
That was a great night. Thanks to all the organisers, and providers of bbq/salad/beers.
I was surprised the turnout was a bit small, but it was a perfect time to learn how to race at least.
Thanks to Hugo for the madison lessons too. Those juniors are quick!

I'm keen. Sounds like a good chance for me to get on the track and have a race.
Nothing like racing against a bunch of state medal winners to remind you how far off the pace you are...

Did that happen to you? Did you eat bitumen?

Re: Skinsuits and Knicks
Having looked through the above, I think I'm between a small and a medium, so I'll take a punt on a medium, and if it's too big I'll just have to start on those protein shake things. I assume we can pay cash at the track? Knicks small - Miguel x 2 medium - Mark H x1, Mark L x1 large - mikesbytes x 2...

Are these the ones?
They don't have a sizing chart for the skinsuits, but they recommend you go by the shorts size:

Looks like I've joined the club a few weeks too late.
I'm not quite organised in time for the ride this year, but count me in for 2011!
