So Frank wants testing of C grade at Heffron. I'm assuming he wants CA to stump up the cost (est at $1000 per test) of doing this. CA are under enormous pressure to do more about doping. Turning back just past the top of artillery hill, at the warumbul rd turnoff gets you back at the service station around 10 minutes before the middies bunch, based on timing today. A little further into the park would be ideal -maybe another 5-10 minutes worth before turning around.

Excellent ride today. I hope Mike C is feeling a bit spent after doing it on a fixie because I certainly am! At Marrickville on I guess the 105km mark, I imagined having to do another 55 kms to match the distance of the Oct 31 Tempetation ride from Bundanoon, and I'm not sure that I would have wante...

Mike, that's assuming that you kept pace with me? If you didn't then you didn't hit that rpm. I stayed in the small ring, and I hit 153rpm, that was the highest that I saw on the computer. James Was going to ask about that yesterday...noticed you in little on the front little on the back, with a pr...

The other times I have ridden with the group there tends to be people that surge up hills/crests on Kingsway - which breaks the group apart and kind of puts everyone into panic mode. The absence of that today made a big difference in my opinion. Good feedback - I'm sure I've been guilty of that in ...

Re: Getting a fixed gear bike
Hello, I am thinking of doing something stupid and retiring my flat bar road bike with its nice set of gears (which I think may actually blow up by the fun sounds it makes) and getting a fixed gear bike. Knowing nothing about what to get in a fixed gear bike apart from something that will match my ...

I was on the front when the road kill was spotted, I backed the pace off considerably and signaled, the signal may not have gotten passed down the line. Re: Another bike accident on the weekend
Anyone see this happen? One of my Triathlon collegues, Hally Bolt, was involved in a cycling accident last weekend. On Saturday morning Hally and a co-rider were collected from behind by a motorcyclist, whilst training on their way to Wollongong. Hally has sustained a broken elbow and cuts and abra...

four notch freewheel remover for flip-flop hubs
Hi,
Does anybody have a four notch freewheel remover for flip-flop hubs that I can borrow? The park tools product to do the job looks like this: http://www.parktool.com/products/detail ... &item=FR-8
Not worth purchasing one for a one-off removal task.
Cheers,
Alan W[/img]

You would probably want to change the bars, and maybe the brake lever. I was told once that you couldn't sell a road bike in Australia with only one brake, this may be wrong. Anyway you may want a rear brake if you're not use to riding fixed. It has reasonable cranks, the hubs aren't anything to wr...

Apologies if this has already been posted, but what's the consensus on this new Cell fixie? http://www.cellbikes.com.au/p_2207_CELL__Cing1e_FIXED_GEAR_BIKE__Now_Available_For_PreOrder This looks like a cheap way to get a fixie, though I'm not sure a 59cm frame would be large enough for me. I agree with you Alan. But as you said, the mechanical simplicity of a fixed/single speed makes a lot of sense for a commuter bike. And then it's so macho to grind that 30 cadence up a Sydney hill on a fixie. The other item you need is a chain tensioner when using vertical drop-out, but only ...

Once you ride a fixed gear, and put the right cog on it, I'm sure you'll find that it's pretty handy, and will get you over most hills (especially between Petersham and the CBD). Most fixie riders don't do long trips anyway. Maybe a 5km commute each way max... Incedentally, the reason why so many f...

fixed gear conversion for road bike
I was in NY last week and was intrigued by the bikes - lots of fixies with cut down bars, massive locks that must have weighed more than the bike itself & typically no brakes or lights. I can see why most of this makes sense over there - Manhattan is pretty flat so you don't need gears, Midtown ...

Permitting drafting destroys the concept of Triathlons. It becomes a running event I think the concept is still there - if it was just a running event we could get Craig Mottram in the pool and out for sunday rides and immediately have him at the top of the triathlon tree. Why so concerned? Don't want to spend the money? Newer equipment is definitely faster, not value for money, but definitely faster. This is how I see it for example deep carbon wheels cost over twice as much as low profile wheels. You pay anything from $2500 to $5000 for a good quality set of 50mm c...

In the latest Ride mag they cover the bikes of the firm that does their printing. One guy has an old Cannondale circa 1992. He was lent a newer Cannondale for a couple of weeks, and claims it cut his best Bobbin head time from 2:02 to 1:53 even though he was riding the brakes on the new bike so as n...

My silca floor pump stopped working recently. It probably needs a new leather washer which may not be easy to source, and the cover over the pressure gauge is broken anyway.
