Ill be doing it on the fixie, so i guess that puts me in the vintage category. Ill still have a crack at beating Weller though.

Any shimano 10 speed cluster will work fine with the Apex gearing. Depending on the wheel/hub you may need a 1mm spacer to go behind the ultegra cassette, but that comes as standard with the cassette anyone so its not really an issue.

Still doesn't help if the longer cranks upset your knees, hips or bio-mechanics.52/36 with 165mm is approximately 53/37 with 170mm to achieve the same foot velocity
Id recommend buying a groupset with any crank length, selling the cranks on facebook and buying some separate short ones.

Depends on the velodrome banking, your pedals, cranks, etc. You'd be fine on most of the flatter tracks but most road bikes would come close to striking at tempe, especially at lower speeds.
Even ignoring the bottom bracket height the main issue is the gears and brakes on the bike....

Hi Marc,
Whether the groupset uses internal cable for the gear cables or external, only effects if the cables are hidden under your handle bar tape or run directly into the side of the levers like the 7800 does. It doesnt influences whether it can be used on an internally or externally routed frame.

11 speed will work with most 9 or 10 speed hubs but certainly not all. Also other things to consider is that you will likely need a new chain breaker or have to borrow one.

I agree with Pat. If your focus is time trialing then go for a trainer. It will take you two years of roller training before you learn to do efforts in the time trial bars on the rollers.

I can confirm that the other riders were also quite shocked and unimpressed with the mid pack, pre race pee. Its fair to say that there was some yelling.
On a happier note there are plenty of photos and even a 'Back Stage Pass' video to follow shortly.

Mid race update from the convoy. Big crash about 25km in involving 30 something riders. Chris went down, no real major injuries but he did snap his bars in half, so his race is over. About 80km into the stage at the moment. Bill is still safely in the peleton with about 25km of rolling hills left be...

Looking at the finishing photo, we are going to have to run a course for DHBC riders about how to be in the drops during a sprint.
Well done everyone regardless, the Dinnerville is always tough race.

Philip, where were you? While waiting there I saw Adrian E riding into the park, and ten minutes prior I had seen Chubbsy on a mission across Anzac Pde towards the tafe/racecourse gates of Centennial. I seem to fail at riding slowly to morning rides. Consequently i spend 10 minutes shivering at the...

It was certainly a challenging day out there in the windy. Only about half the A grade field finished, so I was happy to be there at the end. I was a little out of practise at the corners though.
Good to see all the other dhbc riders out there. It was a day for the bearded riders.

Ha. Even if they are the right size there is no way I can take them off you, they are worth about 10 times the bike that they would be installed on.
Put them on ebay, silly.

WTB - cheap 175mm road cranks
Hi All,
Looking for a set of cheap 175mm road cranks to use on a very old trainer bike. Doesnt really matter what brand or condition they are in, so long as they are newer than about 1990.
cheers,
Alex

No one needs to panic too much about their handicap, James F and I have already discussed them. Most people will be in the first couple of bunches and Chris will be near the back.
The front bunches often take the victory in this race, so everyone should be able to have a good crack at the win.

I disagree that heffron has 'dangerously' tight corners or that it should be redesigned. Criteriums are characteristed by their sharp corners and tight, close racing if you remove that you might as well just have a road race. Part of the skill of winning is the ability to corner correctly. I can thi...
