Is anyone interested in racing the Australia day Crits with me? They are on early in the morning, leaving you the rest of the day to limp about at BBQs with sore legs and a beer.

The event is run by East's and more info can be found here

Hmmm. Same format as the recent pudding races. That race was too fast for me. IMO the handicaps need to be bigger, and people need to ride their correct grade. There were several A graders racing in the C grade bunch at the last one. I think I'll skip it this time, but might come and watch.

So, am I right in thinking that the first event, the B, C & D race is handicapped, with bunches departing in reverse order and finishing together? I you ride C grade, say, and finish first of all those in C grade, do you 'win'?

Yep. That's how I read it.

I'll be there. There were a few more "recruited" at the omnium on Saturday so we should have a good turnout from DHBC

It was a small turn out for this race, Alex R, Alex C and myself rode C grade. This was mainly due to the fact I entered C grade before the other two showed up, then we discussed it, we were going to ride D grade but it turns out you can't go down a grade once you enter, so C grade it was. The race was 15 laps of Heffron at a good average pace of 40.4km/h. C grade could have once the race but the bunch slowed down on the last lap and some B grade riders came through.

I found myself in a 4 man break away at one point, but they left me hanging out the front when it was my turn to roll through, so I was leading the race for about 50m. Both Alex and myself finished with the main bunch, Alex C didn't quite make it to the end.

All up it wasn't a bad race, a fairly high pace (for me anyway) in a big bunch at Heffron makes some interesting racing.
