An interesting development and one that was discussed amongst some club members following the recent federal election.

"The Australian Cyclists Party will advocate for those who bicycle and promote cycling in all of its forms. We will do this by selectively contesting for positions in government across Australia. How can you help? Become a member. In each state we must have a certain number of party members in order to register the party for forthcoming elections. For instance we need 750 in NSW and 500 in Victoria. All members must be on the electoral role in their state before joining."

They need 750 members in NSW to be able to register as a party for the NSW elections and only have a few weeks in which to do so.

For decades cyclists have pushed, prodded, begged, knocked on doors, written countless submissions, rode in protest, signed petitions and defied frankly pretty lousy conditions to exercise their right to enjoy cycling in Australia.

...Ok not some much 'decades' for me, but personally just trying to get something done at :
1/ Cooks River Cycleway - Under Canterbury Road. aka the tunnel of doom, responsible for many scraped elbows, and even worse, bar ends.
2/ Getting the safe route on the west side of Unwins Br (aka http://www.gopetition.com/petition/40571.html)

Pretty sure some of you had similar experiences, - time and chance for those on the Electoral Roll to be stand up and be counted.

Just to add : Omar Khalifa isn't new to the cycling activist scene prior to this.
He was CEO of Bicycle NSW for 18 months ( http://www.pushon.com.au/?p=1033 ) and featured pretty actively in the media at that time.

People willing to help the Cyclists Party have an opportunity this weekend. There will be a stall out at the Bike and Lifestyle Show that is part of Spring Cycle, out at Homebush.

Anyone willing to person a stall, explain the party and sign up members will be welcomed by the organisers. I'm sure they would appreciate help for an hour (or more) if you have a bit of time. It's a great opportunity to get those 750 members.

I'm conflicted re joining as I'm already a member of a political party and it's rules prohibit being a member of any other ...
