Pat is doing well.

Just been speaking with Pat after his crash near Rocky Point Road in the C 28s. He's a St George Hospital but in good spirits. Swelling to his cheek bone has gone right down and he might need a few stitiches above the brow. That's all the info I have.

That's great news.

Did anyone see how he came down? I was on the front and didn't even know there was an issue for 3 blocks

Good news Geoff (and thanks for the great ride leader work). Hope you recover soon Pat - and don't let it spoil Christmas.

Sun 14:00 update: Pat is expected to remain in hospital overnight and will be having surgery on his cheekbone (possible fracture - results not in yet) either today or tomorrow. His partner Kate assures me he's still in good spirits despite everything. I don't have any news on what actually happened yet.

Update Mon 10:00: Pat won't require surgery as the breaks in his cheek bone are fairly straight ... has to have some plastic surgery / stitches on a bad cut on his forehead. Looks like he'll be in hospital for Xmas morning anyway. He can't remember how the crash happened just that he was moving right, the car was giving him plenty of room, no bike in front so no wheel touch, can only have been a cats eye or some other crap on the road or a hole. Jo and I are off to visit him soon. expect pictures

Nice one Pat, there are easier ways to get out of pre-christmas lunch duties. See you at the hospital shortly

Great news. A bit of plastic surgery at our age is all the rage. He's doing nothing different to the celebreties. Tell them however not to stretch the eyes from the back of the ears!

Merry XMAS Pat, Kate and co - great that you are safe and sound.

here's Pat in hospital. They still haven't stitched his head and he's having some issues with his temperature going up and down so he may spend all of Xmas day in hospital. He's not too bad, but it's not real good either. H's got all the usual abrasions as well from shoulder to knees. At least he got some replacement glasses today so he can see again.

I wonder whether its better than working on Christmas Eve. Bad luck about Christmas Day though. I hope it comes to you! Hope there's not too much discomfort - and there's a quick recovery.

Get well Pat. Make sure you stop Kate putting your bike on eBay and "getting rid of the damn thing" before you are released from hospital!

cheers and Merry Christmas

Considering all the nausea, pain, cracked ribs, cracked cheek, fever, and the fact he has to spend Christmas in hospital - he is in good spirits. We took the ipad up and showed him all the good wishes. It was just one of those freak accidents and hope it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Pat,
A complete bummer spending Cristmas in hospital.
An even bigger bummer that you are so bashed up you need to be there.
Hope you have a speedy and full recovery!

Despite being a lttle sketchy on the details between Rocky Point Road and "do you know where you are" - it appears I hit a catseye while I had one eye on the car who was letting us in, and I suspect that I had one hand in the air waving a thanks...last memory is the handlebars going skew-if in my hands.
A sincere thanks to Geoff for everything - calling home, meeting the ambulance at St George and staying on at the Emergency department till relieved, was above and beyond. And my bike magically appeared at home courtesy of Rob Dash - who although we've probably only ridden to gether a few times, went to lengths to get the machine home safely. And Stuart posted so many messages and posts on the cacophany of social media to which he is addicted, that we had a call from friends in Malaysia this morning who knew all the details, to see how I was travelling.
And thanks for all the posts and well wishes herein.
Again, thank you all.
Reminds me why I enjoy riding with this club.
As to injuries - and with respect to the rules governing discussion of such injuires - I expect I will have six weeks or so of hardening up before I can renew work on my saddle sores. My palmares now has a few new lines of required and hard earned details...
Cheers,
Pat Walsh
