Tour De France 2012

So what's happening! I have only just worked out that Andy is out, and Wiggins is the possible favorite? (or should I stay out of the British press). Whats the deal? who are your faves, what are you hoping for?

I'm hoping for clean racing, a cadel GC and goss for the green.

Sky - what the hell are they going to do? Cavendish or Wiggens? Can they support a run at both the green and the yellow? Or will Cav pack it in after week and go for gold in London? A gold medal in rainbow would be something very special.

Will BMC pull their stuff together? I think so.

Will Frank perform without Andy? Who cares, the ITTs will sort him out.

Does Liquigas have anything left to support Nibali? Will they want to given he's leaving and team may be merging with Radioshack-Nissan-Trek?

Who have I left out?

Yeah I reckon cav for the first week, then the GC, no green unless wiggins is out.

I'm thinking Gesink will be a rider to watch for!

I read cav has dropped 4kg's in prep for the Olympics. Not sure if that's enough to affect his power but may just open it up a little for the likes of Goss and Greipel.

Cav got his first yellow jersey, which could mean any thing for his sprint form, though two sprint wins in that. Could goss do it? I'm sure they would be happy with a stage win.

Of course I want it to be cadel, but wiggins will be his main contender. The biggest thing against Cadel at the moment apart from wiggins being in great form is that Wiggins has such an exceptional team behind him. Richie Port...what can I say, wasn't that a great move bringing him on board. Sky also seem to have some pretty good time trial it's, and the team TT and individual TT seems to always be the decider. But Cadel is a legend, he will pull some thing out come Tour Time. Unfortunately not much has eventuated with GIlbert this year compared to last year when he was on fire, same with Thor. I can't see how much help those 2 can be for Cadel. Go Cadel go.

I reckon Sagan is the fav for the green. The kid is a beast.

Hopefully a few more of the GC contenders can stay upright this year. It would make it more exciting to have multiple protagonists heading into the third week.

Go cuddles and gossie.

My thoughts:
There would have been some kind of agreement that Cav gets the WC jersey/Olympics, and Wiggins gets the yellow jersey. This is why Cavendish was trying so hard for points classification during the Giro. He has lost weight in order to get over Box Hill a lot easier in the olympic race, and may have indeed lost some of his top end power. I really hope someone like Fabian or Sagan smashes him. Black bibs with the WC jersey has made me angry enough to wish ill on him for the rest of his career.
There is something sinister going on at Sky. Either someone will get caught, or they have the best chemist going around. "Altitude training." Righto! Read here (NSFW) for more info. http://captaintbag.tumblr.com/post/2477 ... ping-recap
Wiggins is surely the favourite, but he is in great form for week one, and it's week three that grand tours are mostly won in. I think Cadel will be fine, and Gesink should be right up there too. It would be great to see Vandenbroucke stay upright this year too.
Not sure who will leading Radioshack-Nissan-Trek-Livestrong-Whatever, and I'm not sure what they'll be leading them to exactly. I hate that team almost as much as I hate Sky.
Tony Martin maybe. He can time trial obviously, and he can climb well too. An ideal podium would be Cadel, Fabian, and Tony Martin.
I'd like to see Hoogerland, LL Sanchez, and Jeremy Roy win a stage, and if Voeckler gets his knee sorted in time it would be nice for him to spend some more time in yellow again. It's going to be hard to beat last year's tour!

Looks like black caviar is ready to race in the TDF. They already have made up lycra to fit. (see attached)

http://images.smh.com.au/2012/06/05/335 ... -420x0.jpg

They might need to get a larger sample cup for the post race drug testing

Also having to shave 4 legs would be a hassle.

I think Gossie will beat black caviar for the green jersey in Paris

That image is hilarious.

Cuddles to win! If that happens I don't care who else makes the podium....as long as it's not wiggins. No one with a mullet like that deserves the air time.

For all those Social Media addicts like me (and Michele P  ), SBS presents the Social Hub for Le Tour. The SBS Cycling Central Social Hub trawls Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr and brings the most popular Tour de France content into one place for you.

Welcome back Jo and Stuart. Good comments Jo regarding the Mulleted One.

In one corner we have wild card, free spirited Cadel Evans. He will do what he wants, when he wants.

He is there to do some damage and dish out punishment and he is ready.

In the other corner we have that whiney EMO Bwiggins, surrounded with a strong team, but lacking in the cold clean steel feel of Cadel.

Can't wait!

Yeah I have nothing against Wiggins really, only that he is nemesis to Cuddles (oh and the hair). I actually admired Wiggins attitude last year when breaking his collar bone when he said it's not the end of the world....it's just a bike race - great perspective given the effort he put in prior to the Tour. He does seem like a nice enough lad, and very professional, but my heart will always be with Cadel. I mean I'm sure his shower water touched my feet when I was outside the BMC bus at the Dauphine, so Cadel and I will be linked forever !!

Toss is looking ok so far, sagar could (as merx pointed out) go for the green as well. Cav will go, and he will be then first of the sprinters. Is Gilbert a prob?

We have a league for the SBS fantasy tour do we have one for the Velogames one?

Also after last night it should be interesting. A lot of serious GC contenders will now have to attack to make up time and this will put a different complexion on the race.

ok here we go boys, now those sky's are looking a bit fancier, and having Porte on the team is a definite bonus to what was already a strong team!! It will be interesting to see how Porte goes in the time trials etc to see what he could look like as a contender him self.

So is it all over? Wiggins and Froome seem to have it locked up for 1-2 with Cuddles 3rd. But hey, those bears that Jens mentioned back in 2009 might actually appear this yr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WfD7lYkKqA or the Sky bus might crash .. or ...

then again, the French police might raid Cofidis ... wrong Hotel? ;-)

I am wondering if he can keep it going for the whole thing, and am wondering if Cadel or who ever else will win it towards the end.

But yeah, I do have the feeling that it will be a struggle. I am still wondering if Green Edge can get green, that last mid sprint was disappointing, but wait and see I guess.

It's all over for Cuddles. Can't see him getting a stage either as Sky will mark him close. Oh well, hopefully Greenedge can get Goss a stage win.

ok people, I ask that you play these two videos in sinc with each other, possibly pushing the smh link first, to try and get the music to play over the announcement on the smh site.

Please work with me here, in creating the right ambience for this announcement though, and follow my wishes.

that was posted just before I left for the track!

I am really getting into that bass line

I really think we need more drugs back in the sport, I have been staying up and watching 95 percent of this tour, but it is really boring?! We need Contador back!!!!

Drugs? No. A GC rider whose team is not English - YES!

English teams throughout the sporting world know how to kill it with over preparation and win at all costs tactics. I think they need a lesson in something called "flair" or je ne sais quoi...

I must say watching a 3,496.9km team time trial has been quite monotonous.

I totally agree, this years tour was totally boring. The sky domination made it so predictable, Wiggins never had to fight for it. Last year you never knew who was going to win till the TT. Zzzzzzzzzz

Cuddles was obviously n where near his form. I wonder if he willbe back next year? BMCneed to spend some money on climbers.

Any one got the whole TdF recorded? My cunning plan to record the 4 hrs SBS broadcast each night failed due to a highly technical problem, so I wouldn't mind getting a copy.
