Where were all the middies today

Only 3 middies left for Mick Mazza's today (El Presidente was missing??), where were you all? I spent very little time the front today, yet it's the hardest work out I have had in the middies ever. I spent over an hour in zone 5, haven't even come close to that even when we have averaged middies at 33kph. Anyway - thanks a heap to Scotty and Murray - who kept me out of the wind until we teamed up to a group on the mad mile. Still was a great ride, although I'm pretty cooked tonight. I also heard all the groups were splintered today, with C25 and 28's experiencing flats and little Pete pushing the pace up in 28's.

Was going to make a return to the Middies this morning until I woke up with morning rain overhead.

Absolutely no rain, wet road to start...but the weather (except the wind) was good.

that and I am still sick after racing in the worst conditions I have ever raced in last week...Little bitty stingin' rain, big ol' fat rain, rain that flew in sideways, and sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath.

I saw the clearing b/n Marrickville and Waterfall, but the ride to Marrickville would have drenched me.

Just got back from work after riding this morning. The headwind on the way back from Sutherland was a killer. To top it off I got a flat on my way home. Time to open the bottle of red.

How come there was a head wind on the way up AND a head wind on the way back. Seems quite wrong.

I think I'm going to get bumped from the 25s. Might have to go back to riding with the 28s. I think I was part of the splintering problem because my watch said we did 26.5. oops.

I saw El Presidente riding with about a dozen riders

I can confirm that El Presidente was out and about. He and several other riders arrived at the cafe not long before I left and they too were wondering what happened to the rest of the middies as they were riding as a middies bunch.
Either one bunch left early, the other late or both.

You are officially bumped. She who sits on the front the whole way cruising along with the rest of us (ok ME) fighting to stay on AND you offer little drag benefits. To the 28's you go!

A big thank you to you Eleri for being on the front all that way in a small C25 bunch - 1.5k over is not unusual and we often lose riders at certain stages - I had to do the princess turn to get back in front! Everybody got back together so a great success I'd say. My only comment is that you've got some sort of magnetic attraction to the white line on your right  ... we tell drivers that a metre matters so we need to give them the chance to be a metre away!

edit: this white line attraction really applies to lots of DHBC riders and in fact I was going to pen a post entitled "White Line Fever" as we collectively need to not only stay in our lane but also a metre away from the white dividing lines. This means the riders on the front also provide better "suck' for the riders behind by riding closer together .... feel the love.

There's a white line?

Must have missed it when I was looking at the meringue frocks. :)

So the mystery was resolved, there were 2 middie bunches.

Fasties were thin, there were only 5 and 3 of us did extended rides, ie only 2 did the normal Waterfall ride

Wasn't that a great Waterfall? Apart from the 4 flats and one blown tire and the 25 minute tube change with Simon and the bits of windy wind and Nathan pulling 55 past a bunch on the Mile on his fixed bike and all the gags at the Servo and "the Splintering" and Jo being in Zone 5, and no rain surprise, and knowing that the Scott was on, and that the Fasties were going to do a Big Day and Stuart was taking us the BackWay home and Eleri was Cranking up the Front all the way, and Jess was singing and Pip was laughing and we all got back to Sit Down Coffee in the sun.

Baggy Lycra (Apologies to Maddness)

Oh what fun we had
But did it really turn out bad
All I learnt to Waterfall
Was how to bend and break my fall

Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways to ride
To make a difference to the backside

Lots of girls and lots of boys
Lots of smells and lots of noise
Playing with the cars
Pushing our bikes way too far..

Oh what fun we had
But did it really turn out bad
Baggy Lycra

I turned up on time and thought the bunch we left with was the middies.
