I think the course has changed.

Its no longer a hot dog course but a similar to a "D" shape.

Check with macarthur club.

I hated the hotdog course!

Grades are out

John, Tim, Alex R, James, Chidgey and myself are in C. Mark L, Amy and Michael L are in D. Alex C is in B by himself. I guess this means we may need to hang around for Alex's race.

You'll be fine in C Michael. I'm faster now then I was last year and I finished with the bunch in C. This year will probably be a little quicker as there are no 180 degree turns.

How are we all getting there? I've got room for two more + bikes in/on my car.

by christian
I'm hapy to drive, can take one passenger + bike. Also happy to take up a lift from someone else. Lets work out how many cars we have then we can take it from there.

Anyone who requires transport should let us know now.

by shrubb face
I was going to drive too, but it depends on if my car passes its blue slip inspection tomorrow morning. If it fails ill need a lift, if it passes im happy to drive someone out as well.

by Michael Chidgey
i'll be driving out as im heading to the doggies game so will probably go straight there after.

what time are you guys going to get there for a 9.30am start?

Posted: 25 Mar 2010, 21:38
by T-Bone
I can drive out as well, will probably leave at 7:45-8:00am. If someone needs a lift i can take the other car, or i can go with someone else, not too fussed.

by NOOG
I'm coming from Rozelle, so I don't think anyone will want to come and pick me up if I don't drive...what are we going are what time do we have to be there?

Posted: 26 Mar 2010, 08:01
by christian
Ok, I'll take a lift from someone. We need to be there at least 30 minutes before the race to give you enough time to warm up. As James mentioned, 7.45-8.00am departure leaves enough time.

Posted: 26 Mar 2010, 08:47
by shrubb face
well i need a lift now as my car failed its blue slip and its QLD rego expires tomorrow. Do you feel like driving again christian?

...Rugby, cycling, sailing, colour co-ordinates his shorts with his thongs.....and also now single! If you can cook Chidgey - that would put you front runner for DHBC's most eligible bachelor for 2010.

sorry i missed your phone call james, was at a concert. Im more than happy to go in your car, though that does mean that you will have to hang around for my race.

Thanks for the lift John.

It takes less then an hour to get there, race starts at 9.30 for C grade. So I guess you want to be there at 8.30. So I'll be ready to go by 7.45 and you can pick me up sometime between 7.45 and 8.

chidgey chidgey chidgey!!!!
Mike took out 3rd place :D in C grade. John and james were involved in some good break aways (though it was against the grain of a race pretty much there for the sprinters)

Amy and mark learnt about what a sprinters crit is like, and the rest of us all sat inn our prospective grades. Alex a bit unlucky with break away groups and not being able to get across to the ones that were the right ones.

In our race it was pretty much a slow sorta pace formost of it, with a big bunch, and a few groups along the way tryuing to break away. John was on the two man attack that got the half way sprint money (gill carver) and then in the final sprint me and Chidgey were on the back of gil carver again in a bit of a big group to sprint though, from about tenth wheel, Mike foillowed him through for third, and i some how took a different route for some where between 5th and tenth i think. Nice little race, i wish it had been faster the rest of the time :(

I think we rode quite well as a team in C grade. When John and James were OTF Tim rode a nice false tempo on the front for a while and i went with a with a guy that tried to bridge to James.

The course was beautiful it was so smooth and you didn't need to break for any of the corners. I think the average could of been a bit higher in C but the grade was mostly full of sprinter types and no one wanted to do any work.

the sprint was pretty interesting with about 10 guys really going for it. As Tim said i had Gill's wheel and he lead us out till about 150m to go when the middle opened up for me and jumped past a few guys. the distance between 1st and 5th was about a bike length.

D grade

It was an odd race - first of all I went to last years venue and thus was 15 mins away from the real venue, the gas gas helped out an I made it in time to roll out - the guy at the sign on desk said raced here before? A. No. "then please be advised that its very hard for a breakaway at this the Smeaton Crit"...Ok, so we all plod around in a big group with the very occasional sprint off the front, then nothing to the point of slowing down & the risk of clipping a wheel, someone was constantly bickering hold your line, well if i'm in front all lines are mine right...there was one rider who had in fact broken away and I inquire as to if we ought to catch him? - anyway I must have finished 9th or so in a second wave of sprinters

Congratulations to the Chidge - well done mate on your podium(S) :D

D grade

I followed some of the half hearted sprints off the front, however, it seemed they were just checking out who was going with them and didn't pedal on. I did a lap and a couple of half laps on the front (and shouldn't have) resulting in me finishing near the back of the bunch.
It was a good race and l'll race there again.
