Good Friday ride

Is anyone planning a Good Friday ride?
I've been wanting to do some Eastern Suburbs roller coaster for a while, heading up to Watson's Bay on a route a bit like this one: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Ce ... ch-circuit
With traffic bound to be low on the public holiday, I reckon there's no better time to ride these busy roads.
Anyone else want to come and play?
Normal route to Centennial, then onwards!

Heart Break Hill on New South Head Rd would be an interesting one...

I plan on going down that one. But the hills out of Bronte and Bondi are still reasonably stern.

Not coming along unless you are going to go up that one! :P

Stuart and I will be in on that one. We just have to make sure we wait for any slowies at the top of the hill. It is a beautiful ride, I did it last Thursday.

Actually I think Geoff Semon is leading out a ride to Akuna Bay, which is much longer and has a nice array of hills. I think I will do that one instead. I will see if Geoff can put up a post

Akuna Bay is very nice but I think Galston Gorge/Berowra Waters is even nicer. The ferry ride at Berowra Waters is just the most unusual thing for a bike ride. Renegade has regular rides with those routes on Saturdays.

I chatted with Geoff about Akuna some time ago and yes I like the 3 gorges Weiyun but it maybe too much for me right now - last time we did 4 gorges (Bobbin Head / Berowra / Galston / Bobbin Head) after a big night of red wine and I nearly didn't make it back to Turramurra where we started from.

Didn't mean to say that you should go and do the 4 instead. But it's something to think about for future trips. Further, doing 4 gorges in one go is nuts. ;)

Righto - I'm probably going*. To celebrate the public holiday with a sleep-in, I propose a 6:45 AM departure from Mick Mazza.
Bring your phone for sweet picture opportunities at The Gap.

*There's a small chance I won't be going, as am attending an awards night on Thursday and if I win I may not be able to prevent myself from drinking an awful lot.

Considering that I haven't being able to get on the bike for more than a week due to my flu, (more was due to the pain in my legs) can some body tell me how hard is the Akuna bay ride (just to see if I can put up with the pain) :( anyway I still want to get back on the bike

Read JamesC's description of Akuna Bay.

http://www.jamescheetham.net/Renegade/D ... ?RideID=22

I rode it a few weeks ago and the grade isn't too steep but long. It's the pace that'll get you if pushed. Otherwise it's a really pleasant route.

I'm expecting the pace to be cruisers + a bit ! So you will have no problem Miguel and Weiyun I expect that we'd be at Anzac by about 6:55 yes?

Don't look for me as I'll try to join you guys if I have a late start. Otherwise I'll be on my way to CP, going through Anzac Br at 6am.

Have a nice ride!

I'm thnking about this as it sounds like a nice ride - what time would we be back?

Akuna Bay

Sounds like a good ride. I go that way to work to Dee Why, although I take Walker st at Nth Sydney for some punishment. Also spit bridge is steep both ways but ok.

How far and how long would it take?

Hmm .. I got to Mick's at 6:40. No-one else was there.
Had a great ride anyway. The mid-ride baklawa at Watson's Bay was very nice - basically glucose gel wrapped around some nuts and pastry. That's what I'll be telling the drug testers, anyway.

The reason was that we all went to Akuna Bay instead, rolling out at 6:35 so we must have just missed you. Geoff S and Weiyun led the charge with Michelle, Jo, Anthony, Mark, Cathy (new rider and friend of Mark’s) Miguel and me bringing up the rear. It’s a beautiful ride of approx. 110k’s with lots of hills and it took approx. 6 hours, including the coffee stop at Dee Why beach.
There was consensus that it should become a once a month ride to break up the monotony of Waterfall every weekend. Stay tuned for dates.

Here’s a pic of us all at the turn off at Mcarrs Creek Rd

Sounds like you had a good ride.

I went south today, I did the National Park to Waterfall, then turned around, and went back through the National Park to get back home.

All up 110km, but not very fast, I think I am still trying to shake the dreaded lurgi.

I mapped the ride for my own reference.

I could have sworn the hills were steeper than this!!

I recoginise that meeting point, that's where James C, Ian Jennings (former Waratah Vet) and I regrouped after coming out of west head.

What route did you use to get to/from West head?

We didn't go to West Head but Akuna Bay. But the route is very similar.

Not surprised that you guys also used the same rest stop as it is also the regular rest stop for the Renegade rides where JamesC is an active member. It's a Thai restaurant IIRC.
