Maitland Steamfest Penny Farthing Race Information Saturday 12 April 2014

This year’s event is looming fast.

Please find below a guide to the event and information for participants. Please let me know if you will be attending before COB 7/4/2014. Online entry is available here

Hunter Valley Steamfest

The event takes place over the weekend of the 12 & 13 April 2014 starting at 9am and ending at 4pm both days.

Location: The Penny Farthing races will be taking place on the Steamfest Rally Ground which is located off Church St in Maitland adjacent to the New England Highway. Race briefing is at 9:00

RACE DESCRIPTION Saturday, 12th April 2013 09:30-12:15 (Place getters in the finals will receive a medal.)

Members of the Koorangang Cycle Club will be assisting with official duties

9:00 Compulsory race briefing for all riders.

Slow Race 25m, heats of 2, 3 or 4 (depending on track condition), last back wheel over line wins. Winner to pre-final.

Slalom - Timed heats of 2, around 10 cones. 4 fastest to finals. 3rd and 4th fastest race for bronze. 1st and 2nd fastest race for gold and silver

Sprint 200m, straight line. heats, winners only to final. (This race will be held only if time permits)

Women's Race - 2 laps of the parade track. (2 warm-up laps permitted before race start) Please note that this race is 800M not 1600M as shown in the online entry.

Powerhouse Museum Penny Farthing Cup: 4 laps (approx. One Mile) heats - 4 riders, winner into final. (2 warm-up laps permitted before race starts)

Registration:

The registration tent will be next to Powerhouse Museum marquee on the Rally Ground. This will be available from 8am on Saturday 12th April.

Parking:

Parking will be available on the western end of the Rally Ground, approximately 400m walk from the registration tent. This is the only location on the Rally Ground that modern vehicles are permitted to be parked whilst the event is open. Cars that are parked in this area won’t have access to leave the Rally Ground until the event concludes. For participants who need to leave prior to 5pm there is parking available in Maitland Park (short walk from the Rally Ground)

Accommodation

Participants are welcome to camp on the Rally Ground with the festival organisers/exhibitors on the Saturday night. Showers and toilet facilities will be available. If you wish to take up the camping offer please email events@maitland.nsw.gov.au to confirm.

Saturday Night Meal

Riders are also invited to attend the Maitland Steam & Antique Machinery Association Saturday night dinner. The dinner will be held in the Steamfest shed located on the western end of the Rally Ground. Dinner will be from 6pm and will be free of charge to racers.

Rail Services

Wherever possible it is recommended that visitors to Hunter Valley Steamfest catch one of the CityRail services to avoid the hassle of parking.

A copy of the CityRail timetable is available from http://www.cityrail.info or on the weekend can be obtained from the Maitland Railway Station Ticketing Office.

Additional services will operate throughout the weekend.
