Hi,
I have a new laptop with Windows 8. It won't recognise my Garmin device when I go to download on Strava but allows me to download the correct version of Garmin COmmunicator Plugin to rectify the problem. I do this, save it, and then am able to download from my device which is recognised.

Next day its all back to square 1. No recognition. I have to download the plugin again.

Next day is the same.

I'm starting to feel like Ground Hog day. Any advice

I copied the .FIT file from the garmin itself (like it is a usb stick) and then manually upload it. It uploads much fasted also, bonus!

What's the joke? The box said runs on Windows XP or better, so I installed Linux.

What browser are you running? Are you logged into Windows as an administrator? And is that browser running as an administrator (especially for IE)? If not IE, is the browser installed for everyone?

EDIT: A tip from Strava - loading a ride is a lot quicker if you delete old rides off the device. The more rides your device holds, the more work Strava has to do (loading the list of rides is O(n))

Until this is solved, for Strava - you can just upload the ride using the Garmin device as a drive using 'Upload a file directly from your computer.'
Sure you don't get to see a nice picture of your Garmin model and ID#, but it works fine.
(- assuming it's a Garmin 500/510/705/800/810)

I do this when I'm on computer that doesn't have the plugin and I don't want to install the plugin (eg: at work, at a mates house, etc)

Edit : Another tip, similar to what Timothy suggested, you can also ZIP them up as well- I do this by the year-month every now and then.

Never got the communicator plugin to work properly. Just browse and upload the fit file.

Also I find my 500 gets buggier the more rides on it. My fail last Saturday was fixed by deleting my old fit files. Damn thing wasn't even half full.

Buggy thing. Pity they are better than everything else :(
