Looking to get new road shoes. But I'm a bit confused with choice. I'm wearing Shimano at the moment, and they are ok. I do consider my foot to be wide. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations?

Shimano and Northwave are generous in size in the toe box. Sidi also do a wide 'Mega' version.

Best advice is to duck down to your LBS and try some on as this is completely personal choice.

I've got the Specialised Boa shoes. They're ok but probably not worth the price.

Sidi do a wide version as Noel has mentioned, but only in the Genius model. Lake also make great fitting shoes that are a little wider in the toe box. You'll obviously save over $100 ordering online, but for someone like me with strange shaped feet I was happy to wear the cost of buying locally, because it meant I could try on lots of sizes of many brands.
I would steer clear of Mavic shoes as they have the cleat position too far forward. Besides, fluro yellow is not everyone's cup of tea.

I've got Bont (top of the line, but I'm stuffed if I can remember what it's called), you can mould them by heating them in an oven at a low temp and then putting your foot in the shoe. I don't have an issue with them and I have a wider foot.

I had trouble in getting my feet into either Shimano or Specialized. They were just a tad narrow over the toe box.

Best fit for me are Lake shoes. Good quality and price ressonable

My first pair were Carnac and I've got hobbit feet. I'm not sure what they are like now though. I've got the Shimano 310 heat moulding ones now (not actually moulded, but they fit well from the start). They're pretty stiff, although a little on the heavy side I think.

Mod's, should this be moved to conversation?

Investigate Carnac Notus............ well made, carbon sole, nifty vents in sole, single buckle with 2 velcro, Notus - deals to be had mostly OS but Torpedo is also worth a look. Sizing is euro but accurate sz41 equates to US7.5-8 Eng7. Extrapolate as and where necessary.
happy hunting
