Waratah Vets Tempo Cup Eastern Ck Sun 16th Dec
Hello DHBC masters riders with a race license (and all ages fems). Last Vets race at Eastern Creek for the year on Sunday 16th Dec at 7.00am for all grades.
It's the Tempo Cup, whatever that is. Lets get a big contingent of riders out there in red, and carve them up. It's a downhill 12m wide finish straight.
If you're on Twitter, follow @WaratahMasters for race day updates (especially if the weather is dodgy).

I've just got a race license but have never raced. So excuse my ignorance but what is a scratch race? Do I have to nominate a grade or do they do that. Cheers, Philip.

What time?
That means there's A-E grade and in each grade all riders start together. Bunches leave 1 minute apart (A go first normally). When you pay (bring your license) the Waratah's guys will take a look at you, ask how much riding you do and then nominate a grade. Then you can argue if you thinks is to highI've just got a race license but have never raced. So excuse my ignorance but what is a scratch race? Do I have to nominate a grade or do they do that. What bunch do you ride to Waterfall?
Thanks Stuart. I think I get it, though it sounds rather chaotic. So if all grades start together does that mean there is effectively one race? Or more correctly multiple races but all run concurrently. I imagine slipstreaming other grades is a no no. Are we colour coded?
I usually ride with the middies. Is there any climbing at eastern creek, I prefer a climb, I'm running a compact so I kinda suck at flat or down hill sprints. Sorry for the barrage of questions.

Sounds like C grade
Sounds like C grade to me too. And yes, there are multiple races but all run concurrently - hence the 1 min gap in starts. When a faster bunch passes you're not allowed to jump on the back, although this does sometimes happen. In theory you'd be disqualified for doing so but its hard to police.
I've not raced the 'new' eastern creek track but as it's now shorter and it bypasses the hills at the back, it's really a sprinters track. But then so are all the crit tracks that Vets race on

I'm racing in Wollongong on Sat night. So my appearance will depend entirely on my ability to get out of bed
So I am off to get my Jersey fomr Glow Worm tomorrow.
the only other thing is where do you go at Eastern Creek, I have just looked on the Waratah Website but cannot see any address. IS itjust a matter of going to the raceway and you will see the signs?
Hopefully I can hide in D grade or lower with Stuart.

Warm day out on the Long Course at the Creek. Plenty of DHBCers mixing it with the Waratahs at the Tempo Cup.
This is Jo and Stuart 3 minutes before the start, with a flat front tyre.
Post race happiness

The photo does not feature either of our winners John Mason got up for the win in C Grade and in D, a rider whose identity is not certain got the Prime and got 2nd overall, (Keith Winsor is officially in 2nd place in D and is a member so I guess it's him!)
Fun ride in my last Waratahs C grade race today.
Watched events unfold for the first few laps, & then tried to push the pace along from the front for the rest of the race. It was probably the closest finish I've experienced in C grade, with about 10 riders well in position & about 5 in the final rush for the line, & then me & another fellow side by side in the run to the line - so plenty of excitement.
Wish me luck in B grade for 2013,
John M.
