Can someone tell me if there is a half year membership criteria thingy? Like do I have to pay the whole years membership even if I get one in around 6 weeks times...i.e when I get back from europe.

There is.

Here is what it says on the CA website: http://www.cycling.org.au/default.asp?P ... 0013/43895
"Discounts are available for Gold Race Licence for the following members:

Current financial members of BMXA, MTBA or AUDAX. Must have minimum three months remaining on membership.
Members who join between 1 July and 30 September are eligible for a Six month discount.
Members of designated Remote Area Clubs (as approved by state associations) who will only participate in races at that club are eligible for a regional discount.
Serving members of the Australian Defence Force will receive a discount when they join as Race Elite members of the ADF Cycling Club
Please note upgrade & discount membership options are not available on line. Please contact the membership team to apply."

Question about Cycling Australia / DHBC membership and Audax Australia.
What I (think I) know
Audax Australia = CA membership
DHBC membership = CA membership
Currently I have DHBC membership.
If I'm looking to do a Audax ride, (and maybe more in the future) what is the recommended way or best way you would go about this ? Thanks!

You can ride Audax without being a member of Audax or of Cycling Australia. Audax just charges you extra if you're not a member. I cannot comment whether Audax mbr = CA mbr

DHBC membership includes insurance on club rides and the option to race if you want to get a Gold license.

Being a DHBC member = being a CA member. That means if you ride Audax, they just treat you like one of their members. So no problem riding Audax with a DHBC licence.

I'm pretty sure you can't race with an Audax licence though in case that's a consideration.

Thanks Eleri, I was hoping that is the case.

FYI - From their membership page :
Additionally members can opt for a Racing category licence (extra charge) so that membership with a second Cycling Australia affiliated club is not required if you also want to participate in competitive races. Note, Audax Australia events are not competitive races.
I'm guessing the extra charge is similar to the difference between Silver and Gold membership.

By the way, I have the answer from Audax today and it confirms Eleri's reply.

"For ride entry purposes the principle agreed with CA was that anyone who is a current member of a CA affiliated club would be charged the Audax member rate for entry (i.e. no temporary membership fee). The context of the discussion was with regard to insurance coverage and temp m'ship fees, so whether someone has a racing licence or rec licence is not material.

Our ride entry fees are for (i) Audax/CA member or (ii) non-member. "

I recently remembered that my Cycling Australia membership was coming up for expiry.

I checked today and it expired last Sunday. I was a bit surprised not to receive any reminder. I tried to renew it online but to no avail.

I called CA and apparently they updated their database last year and I was nowhere to be found. I was told to reapply online.

So you may wish to check your licence and keep an eye on the expiry date to make sure you have insurance coverage - and to support the club, of course.

John
Have you been getting email newsletters from us? That would tell you whether you are on the list that we draw down from that same source.

There's a few Johns and I don't know which one you are ...

Maybe it is time for a John race!!!! What distance would you like it over? I think John Nguyen would be happy to race you on the track, in the fasties bunch, or on a mountain bike.

I would be happier with the track as we can watch the whole thing with out having to get on a bike!

If you would like to prove other kinds of fast, I am sure we can still some how turn it into a spectator sport, speed skating could be fun :D

I think it would be a redundant event, with John Nguyen taking a clean sweep in everything. But i'm sure he wouldn't mind some challengers.

Let's add an age handicap to make it interesting.

Anyone want to take me on in a name challenge? :-)

Mike / Michael /Michal / Miguel appears to be most common - 16 of you. Add the Michelle / Micheles and I reckon we could get 22
