I was just coming on to post this, I don't think I'm riding this year, but any one that wants to race on the track should check it out.

I'll be there for the second half of the season. This is the most fun all year on bikes, apart from the match sprinting events Crafty used to put on.

I only got to race the first two weeks last year due to illness :( so am glad to be better for this year! Someone at Duncan gray the other day made a comment that everyone (especially roadies) should come and ride because it gives you practice finishing (and winning!) races 4-5 times a night! A part of a road race that's very difficult to practice, and is obviously super important! Oh yeah and crafty is hilarious and his events are always awesome!

I'm in. I usually miss the first couple of weeks, but I'm going to try to get there this year. Anyone know how I can get my own number for the whole series?

Email crafty, I think there is a small cost and he will let you know if the number is available.

After a month in France, on a road bike, and Endless hills, I'm looking forward to getting on to Cameron (For those that don't know, that is my track bike, I can't name every bike after Cadel). See you guys there.

Hello
I have never been on a track bike before.
What would I need to do to compete at this RAW? and is this comp for beginners.

I have not been able to get to the DHBC Monday or Wednesday nights due to family commitments.

I have race license, helmet but no track bike.

Thank you,
Taylor

What are the dates for RAW this year? It's strange I can find them written anywhere.
I'm in the same boat as Taylor (have licence, but no bike). There are a couple of Friday's in July in which I should be able to make it.

Alex Chubb is Track Captain and usually down there on Monday & Wednesday night. Get there earlier, say 6.30 when they are opening up. PM him probably best.

you also have to be careful about borrowing the club bikes. as they can be used by several people (mostly jr's on restricted gearing). if you borrow it for RAW on the firday, you need to pick it up at the end of training on wednesday (or organize another pick up time) and have it back for training on Monday.

or I'd suggest one of these
https://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bicycle ... /102071702
take off the breaks and you'll have something (better) than the club bikes, in you' size, and with an adult gearing!

Looks like RAW has created a traffic jam at training... I don't think I've ever seen so many people at the track.

For Week 1

RAW TRACK
2012
STARTS THIS WEEK
RAW Track (Race All Winter Track) is back for 2012.

RAW TRACK Newsletter 2012 sponsored by:

http://WWW.Bicisport.com.au

First week’s Program
• Round 1 warm up Scratch
• Round 2 no race (wheel-races run at best every second week pending sponsor)
• Round 3 sprint (6 up’s over 3 laps)
• Round 4 Points Race (3 sprints)

• Round 5 Combines

Blue indicates Series Points scoring rounds

Explain these races
Sprint- RAW Track sprints are usually run as 4-6 ups over 3 laps the first few laps are usually spent sizing your opponents up and positioning yourself for the optimum explosion to the finish. It is not uncommon for a sneaky rider to attack early in the hope of holding a lead to the finish. The sprint is a test of power, speed and above all, tactics.

Point score- Riders must score points by sprinting for intermittent sprints every 5 laps for bonuses (5, 3, 2, 1 points). Lapping the field scores a bonus 20 points, consequently losing a lap to the field scores -20points. Winner of the race is the rider with the most points. Although the lapping rule is indicated in this description, at RAW track the race is generally too short to secure the lap consequently we generally don’t allow lapped riders back in.

BSCC- RAW Track Canteen
• I am delighted to announce that Bankstown Sports Cycling Club will again be hosting a Canteen at Raw
• The Canteen will provide the basics and it is hoped that it will be well supported by our riders and spectators
• Profits raised will be going towards covering costs at their Wednesday night training session which are currently running at a loss.
• Not only will we be supporting the canteen but also promoting the Wednesday Training session in a hope to turn both initiatives into profits.

Be the first to take Peter Buckingham’s challenge by asking for a double dose of the “not-4-wimps” sauce.

Rain is not a problem at the DGV
• In contrast to a lot of NSW racing over the last two months, Rain is not going to interfere with RAW Track Racing.
• Despite this, please be prepared for a chilly experience.

Points for 2012 series starts week 1
• For every week you attend you receive 10 points
• Everyone is allowed to miss 2 RAW nights without losing to many points.
• In rounds 3,and 4 top 4 place getters receive 5,3,2 and 1point respectively
• From Week 10 August 31 place getter points are doubled.

Sign-on’s and Licenses ….. Bring It!
• If this is your first RAW Track for 2012 you will need to show your license …….It is everyone’s first for 2012
• I record your license as sighted and you are fine for the season.
• Sign-on’s are in Point-score order.

Pay up front for the entire series
• This year I am offering the opportunity to pay for the whole season for the cost of 10 weeks
• The offer is available for the first two weeks only and will be adjusted by 1 week you decide to do this in week 2

Website http://www.rawtrack.com.au

Money troubles?
• If you are experiencing money troubles please do not hesitate in approaching me so we can come to an arrangement.
• I would much prefer to see you race than stay home.
• In the past I have had reduced rates for families, pensioners and uni students and maintained confidentiality.

Due to un-forseen circumstances, I WILL be able to attend this friday. Though I have a problem - I seem to no longer be in possession of the brass fitting that aids in inflating a rear disc wheel. Does someone have one I can borrow for Friday night? I would appreciate it.

I'm planning to give RAW a go this year.
As a novice track rider I'll admit to being a bit nervous.

This might be a silly question, but what time does it start?
I can't find this on the website.

Friday afternoon traffic generally means I am not there until 7 Paul. But it doesn't really disadvantage you too much unless you are hard core and need the full hour to warm up (which I do not).

0 Ben Fox
-1 Chris Harris
-3= Lizanne Wilmot & Tai Huynh
-4 Tom Bolton
then in Div 5
-5 Eleri Morgan -Thomas

From a Division viewpoint;
0 Div4

Good pick up T-Bone
I have adjusted master sheet and Tom Bolton now leads Div4 outright on 17points

The changes will appear on next week’s results.

I remember why the error occurred. I was calculating the points when my wife called me (read screamed at me for the third time) to come to dinner. Somehow I lost my place when adding, oops

What's on the menue this week at RAW

This week’s Races

• Round 1 warm up Scratch
• Round 2 No round 2 this week
• Round 3 1/2 filed sprints (12 riders max over 5 laps)
• Round 4 Poker Race
• Round 5 Combines + CNSW Time Blaster 8:36 for $100

Explain these races

Half Field scratch/sprint Your Division will be split into two heats (based on pointscore rankings). So if there are 18 riders in div 2 there will be two heats each containing 9 riders. The race is run under standard scratch race rules. At only 1.25km in length this race is considered more like a sprint than a scratch race.

Poker Race- ran on the same rules as the Point'a'Lap race however, instead of earning points you earn cards. On your first lap win you a card, on any additional point won you receive an extra card. The winner of the race is the rider who has the highest ranked card Ace Hearts being the highest and 2 of Spades the lowest. Don't worry you don't have to carry the cards with you, we keep them on the desk.

Round 3 Div 1 – 4 Italian Pursuit (Div 5= ½ field sprint)
• Round 4 Group Handicaps

• Round 5 Round 5 Combines + “CNSW Time Blaster”

Explain these races

Italian Pursuit- this team event combines riders of all standards to form two teams at opposite sides of the track. Team captains organise their team so as the slowest riders are at the front of the train. After the end of each lap, the leading rider pulls off completely, leaving the next to fight the wind. Therefore, the first rider has to do one lap, the second, two laps, and the last rider completes as many laps as in his team. Hence, the last rider typically has the best endurance. The pace of this race is continuously building and lead often changes hands between the opposing teams, until the final two riders are left to decide the race. If the handicapper does a good job this can be without a doubt one of the most exciting races as the excitement builds with the pace.

Group Handicap- This is a scratch race over 10 -15 laps however your starting position will be allocated by the race organiser. You will either start on the front straight or the back straight dependent on my belief of your ability (and maybe other factors). The race will be started with a whistle and the riders on the back straight will need to catch the lead riders in order to secure a place.

Video’s to watch
• Example Italian Pursuit : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyNGKZewm2c
• Example Italian Pursuit from 2nd last wheel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZt4GawuJV8

Italian Pursuit Procedure
• The Italian pursuits will be for div 4 to div 1
• The teams will be allocated at the sign on desk.
• As you sign on you will be allocated a team name (you can not choose your team)
• Make sure you know your team # name when signing on.
• In the event of uneven riders the 2nd lead rider of the smaller team will do two laps
• The team captain will be the rider highest on point-score
• It will be a fence start on the whistle
• The lead rider will do two laps, all other riders will do one lap.
• Members of the wining team receive 3 points
• Don’t forget to cheer on your team after you have finished your turn.

Italian Team# - Name - Captains
• Team 1 = Wiggins = Ben Harvey
• Team 2 = Vinokourov = Josh Cornish
• Team 3 = Evans = David Browne
• Team 4 = Voeckler = Popplewell
• Team 5 = Froome = John Nguyen
• Team 6 = Sanchez = Harrison Jones
• Team 7 = Sagen = Daren Cash
• Team 8 = Cavendish = Alex Chubb
• Reserve Team captain = next available highest on Point Score
• Team captains do not have to ride anchor
• First Race is off is Team Cav (Chubb) Vs Team Sagan (Cash)

The no catch rule.
• At RAW track we have a no catch rule in Italian Pursuits.
• That is that; no team is to close within 50m of the opposing team.
• Instead the lead rider should maintain a tempo equal to that of the other team @ a 50m gap
• This rule is void when we get to 4 riders per team remaining at this point a catch is allowed.

CNSW Time Blaster

• This week is the third week for the “CNSW Time Blaster”
• The Time Blaster is worth $200
• The Time to beat this week is 8min 39 seconds

I have received an email from an anonymous LACC rider, which I read in an honest competitive nature. To sub phrase a lengthy email it states (now in point form via me)

To DHBC
• We understand by sheer numbers your club has deservedly wrapped up the 2012 Hillbrick Club Challenge. DHBC are almost double our clubs points.
• We would like to offer a challenge to DHBC which we completely understand that you most likely will not accept.
• We Challenge DHBC to an Italian pursuit with 11 riders to determine the 2012 club champions

Straight off the bat I have refused this suggestion as 100% uncool. However I would like to offer an amended proposal to DHBC.
• In week 9 as the last event of the night, DHBC challenge LACC in an eleven person Italian pursuit
• Each team must contain 2 x Juniors 2 x Women 2 x masters and the remaining 5 can be of any denomination
• If LACC win DHBC will be reduced in points to equal LACC accumulative score at the conclusion of week nine
• If DHBC win statuesque will be kept and DHBC will continue on to win the 2012 Hillbrick challenge

So why on earth would DHBC consider this challenge?
1. First off it is a challenge, so can they resist the temptation to destroy the opposition?
2. With still three weeks remaining it would not mean that DHBC would lose the series (should they lose the Italian)
3. It would revitalise the Hillbrick point score making it a more watched serries

The ball is now in DHBC’s Court. They have no solid reasons to accept this challenge, but will they?

I say we accept.

Proposed Team:
Juniors: Bill and I
Masters: John and Matt
Women: Lizanne and Joanne
Others: Alex, Pat, James, Chidgey, Nathan

Thoughts?

The fairer option is for the 5 others to be the best other rider in each of the grades.

The race sounds like fun, but we don't have to accept the challenge really. And we can make a counter offer on the conditions.

How about Alex as Track Captain and I confer.

I like it!
the idea is totally awesome (although a tad unfair) but it would be good to get some rivalry going! DHBC would totally smash LACC in an Italian, so BRING IT!

If its only open to people who have already ridden it might be fair. Otherwise, they have a fairly strong and organised road training plan with coaches, and might enter some of their road riders who are quite strong.
Maybe its one for the track captain to take up with their track captain to see if it is indeed a sentiment shared by many of their members, or if its just one member who is annoyed at seeing so much red.

I've had a bit of a think about this and a chat to some others. Whilst i realise this is obviously in good nature, i think it needs to be acknowledged by LACC that the reason that DH does so well in this competition is simply because we have manage to attract a lot of new riders to the track and kept them. It isnt as though we are simply stacking one or two lower grades with riders in an effort to win the comp.

Whilst i think we should probably accept that challenge out of fun anyway (we will most likely win :) ) , i think LACC should bring something to the table as an offer. As is stands at the moment DH has everything to lose and nothing to gain.....

As long as the rule is only those who have ridden in RAW this year I think it is fair. And even if they win, they only go to equal points. There will still be another 3 RAW meets for us to regain the lead.

Hi posted in this weeks RAW news

LACC proposed a challenge to DHBC this week
• I made a modified challenge
• After this there has been much debate and proposed modifications on various forums with no real acceptance or agreement.
• DHBC are the rightful leaders in the Hillbrick club challenge through commitment to participation and will most likely continue on to be the 2012 RAW Club champions.
• Just to stir up the hornets’ nest a little! On paper DHBC had a significantly stronger team and would have most likely won the sub-fight anyway.

Oh and By the way

Congratulations Boy Wonder Tirian McManus Junior World Champion

DHBC are on track to win this title, why jeopardise it? The only reason LACC are proposing this is because they can't beat you in the usual way.

I agree with others who say we should accept the challenge. However...

I propose making it an Italian Pursuit with teams of 30 riders! Haha. They'll have to get 30 riders down to the start line to compete against us. If they can't get 30 riders down to the track, they lose. But if they can get 30 riders down to the track for the Italian Pursuit, then they simply prove that their club has the numbers, and they should have the capacity to get the numbers down to RAW every week! So by accepting that amended challenge, they will have implicitly conceded that it's their club members' apathy that has cost them the teams challenge. We win either way...

If you allowed only 3 metres per bike, thats 90 metres per team, ie 180 meters of bikes on a 250 metre track

Your front/last person might be holding on in the bankings. Not ideal. Anyway, why bother with semantics when it's a moot point.

I can see through the threads that LACC have made this challenge is all in good fun, so I think we should just race an Italian with them anyway for spirit of competition. Crafty's rules seem pretty fair and guarantee a good cross section of riders participate. Although....I haven't seen many woman from LACC race, apart from Emma Sprouster, so LACC are going to have to do some thing without depending on ring ins - and Stellios in a dress doesn't count. I think I saw one LACC girl race in the early stages of RAW?

so LACC recon they have a chance

'LACC is tied with Dulwich Hill CC for the club points score, with only 4 weeks to go we need all LACC trackies (Junior through to Masters) out at RAW to help LACC take the Club Points race "
http://ymlp.com/zKP8WW

with LACC getting more points than us last week, and the week before, they seem to be making an end of the season points push.

from here it would seem we have it in the bag, but if we slack off, it might be a close race to the finish.

And just so we know that we aren't just stacking the numbers, Crafty has calculated the average points per rider for the top 10 clubs.
This is the club by rank and by points per rider. I only included those that were over 70 points. We are coming 3rd in that ranking.

1.DHBC - 77.3 avg points per rider
2. Lidcombe - 70.5
3. Penrith - 79.6
7. Sutherland - 75.4
9. Bankstown Sports - 70.3
10. ATTA - 82.5
13. Bicisport - 72.9

Last night of RAW track this week.

I'd like to get an updated shot of all DHBC riders in kit please! I'll organise a time and we will get everyone riding the track at the same time.

After all - we will win the Club Challenge for 2012 and we should have a picture!

So all 2012 RAW riders, please come if you can, in your club kit and be ready to get on the track at a time yet to be announced.

Congratulations to everyone who rode RAW Track in 2012. Over 35 DHBC riders rode at some stage during the season which is a great effort all round.

Dulwich Hill is again, for the 4th year running, the winners of the Hillbrick Club Challenge and win a junior track bike.

Congratulations also to Tom Bolton who narrowly won Division 3 just 2 points ahead of Nathan Garard in 3rd with Vic Svacek a few points behind in 4th. Tim and Nathan had a real battle of youth v experience that went down to the wire with a couple of nail biting races on the last night.

Tai Huynh came 3rd in Division 3.

I came 4th in Division 5.

We got a group photo of the club on the track at the end of the night. Coming soon!

And nobody missed out on pizza!
