I'm looking at changing my bike stem and wish to shorten the reach by a few cm's. I've jumped on Wiggle and have noted that there is a range of angles. How do I match up the correct angle i require to setup the bike neutral (flat). I can only see the diameter of the bars and length on the stem. No angle mentioned.

My bikes geometry is: http://www.orbea.com/au-us/bicis/modelo ... on_tecnica

Any pointers would be helpful.

Cheers,

Noel

Hi Noel,

Stem angles are +/- x degrees.
You will need to goto manufacturer website to get the exact number of degrees for that model. Some write it on the stem.

Eg I use Ritchey and the are +/- 4 degrees. Means u can point it up for +4, or point it down for -4.

Change 1cm at time stem length as experiment. Unless you know for sure you want to reduce by 2cm in one go.

I wasn't sure when building my bike, so bought x2 Ritchey stems diff lengths from cell bikes at the time $20each.

Thanks for the pointer. I've just been guesstimating how far to drop the reach. RE: Angle -Upon closer inspection i have found that mine is 10 deg.

I'll shoot for a 9cm /10 deg. stem or similar.
