lance partied with strippers?
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/lan ... -zuws.html
According to Landis's account, the evening began when Armstrong drove several riders into downtown Austin. Through Landis's observations, the article reports that Armstrong sped while driving and said he paid little attention to stop signs.

CANCELLARA's winning average speed was 53.4kph, while last was 32.7kph. But if you ignore the last 2 riders, who's times are up the creek for whatever reason, then last is 45.7kph

The last two both came a cropper but finished anyway.

I don't think any of us will be emulating those times at Somersby in 3 weeks - not least because of the hills.

I note a photo showing a rider's bloody face, with full aero kit. I assume at least one of the slow riders was as the result of that crash.

I loved the moldovian national champions colorful jersey
I loved the fact that there was a bike path on either side of the road for almost the whole 223.5km stage.
I loved the amount of people who lined the whole stage
I loved that Cav crashed but was pissed that Tyler didn't win

Tyler had his own incident. He had to stop and detach another bike from his own.

It would be funny as if he won hey!

Man this tour is so good! At the moment it looks like a lot of people could win, mainly because every one keeps crashing! Go saxobank! Man watching jens on the front dropping people off the back for long periods of time is crazy! How is he not a flat race contender!

Yeah check out his face when he was leading Frank back out to the front....you gotta love Jens....I would name my bike after him except Jens just doesn't sound right for an italian bike.

Stage 2: very weird, great ride from Chavanel and I couldn't, and still can't understand why the guys left upright didn't bolt and make lots of time on the fallen - isn't that racing? Sometimes the luck goes your way, and sometimes not? Anyway, I thought at least they'd sprint at the end but it was all too weird. I think the power might have gone to Cancellara's head somewhat. Highlight of the day - watching Jens pulling the Schlek's back to the peleton - Jens is THE MAN! I love that guy - the expression on his face was just pure pain.

Image

Stage 3: Great racing! fantastic to watch. Chavanel's luck really did desert him though huh!! 3 bike changes and a flat. You never really know what will happen next! Poor old Frank's out but Saxo's might and power is only slightly diminished. Outstanding ride from cuddles Cadel but Andy Shrek looked pretty good too. My $$ still on the skinny Spaniard but cuddles could get a top three - we'll see. Oh, and poor old Lance ... still, he had the right attitude re stage 2.

I think there are many aspect to that question.

At a simplistic humane level, it's a question of general safety for all riders. When half of the peloton were involved in repeated crashes, there's something wrong. This is a civilised sport, not blood sport. There are WFCs tournaments for that.

Otherwise one can also consider that they are all PROs. Pro teams survive through sponsorship. With the devastation caused, 1/2 of the major hot teams are losing their contention of the race on day 3, it's bad, very bad for sponsorship publicity. With loss of sponsorship, there goes 1/2 of the peloton's employment prospect for next year. So it's far better to keep your opponents around than shedding the lot of them for solitary gain.

While I agree with this sentiment and can see why the riders did it and am coming around to seeing it as an OK thing to do, I still can't see why they didn't sprint at the end as the peloton was back together then?

Also, I question whether Cancellara would have been so keen so neutralise the stage if it hadn't of been the Schlek's who were worst off, but rather Cadel or Armstrong?

I think that'll always be a question hanging over Cancellara's action. But he was the yellow jersey rider and it's not unreasonable for him to take the leadership.

As for the cancelling the final sprint, guess that's the punishment to the organizer. If there had been a sprint, then one could hardly call it a protest.

Stage 4: yawwwwnnnnnnnn Only interest really was that Cav couldn't get going in the sprint (lead out train missing Hansen?) and then sat up when it was obvious he wouldn't win - seems he's not interested in Green Jersey points ??

Stage 5: Flat stages are really quite boring aren't they? Still, the concept of a "rest day" that means a 185k ride puts it in perspective. Cav got the win when I was hoping that Robbie might get up - seems his injuries are not helping. Interesting hearing discussions of different sprinting styles though with Cav needing a lead-out to win it whereas others like McEwen and Petacchi just go it alone.

Joanne - are you OK.....?????? Cadel, Simon Gerrans and some others went down. He's had to see the race doctor, and looks like he hurt his wrist, apart from a bloody elbow and sore hip. Don't know what it will do for him. He's at the front of the peleton at the moment. Knowing him, he won't let anyone know, if it is bad, until the day after the final day.

Does this guy have any luck on his side ever?

I hope Spain wins the World Cup today, and then luck for the Spanish will run out from 12th July onwards.

I'm ok, but glad I didn't see him crash. I didn't want him to get the yellow jersey so early! If his luck can just keep him up right and close to Contador and Shleck he might still get the yellow jersey in the end. Lots of people don't think he has a chance....but I still do. Go Cadel go!!!!

Stage 6:
Cav again - Renshaw superb - he needs to go to another team and sprint for his own wins. More bad luck for McEwen with the official stepping out into has way, it's just not his tour at all. Then there was the handbags fight - what a classic!
Image

Stage 7:
Great tactical ride from Chavanel and just reward after his bad luck on the cobbles. Otehr than that, the GC guys were all just staying close to each other. Still, a nice stage.
Image

Stage 8:
Thought for sure that Contador would attack after Astana spent so much energy pushing the pace but it was Schleck's day. Lance is gone, gone , gone - his luck seems to mirror McEwens' - maybe after so many tours they've used theirs all up? Oh and cuddles is in Yellow - a little too early one would think but his luck seems to be holding with his crash not doing too much damage by the looks of things. Schleck is looking mighty strong but Contador is surely foxing? Anyway, Go Cuddles Cadel Go!
Image

I swear that Cadel is actually smiling in this shot - I luv ya Cadel - go hard!

I watched the tour last night in almost as much agony as Cadel with his fractured arm. Andy, COntador and Jens just sailed away from him :(. That guy really has no luck at all.

Stage 9: Man, the luck just doesn't go Cadel's way - Fractured elbow shatters Tour hopes for Evans

The worst part of this stage was having to listen to those two Poms, Liggett and Sherwin dancing on the grave of Cadel with all the glee they could muster. And of course they were still the biggest fanboi's of Lances' there's ever been. SBS needs new commentators.

Right, anyway great riding from Astana and Saxo Bank and a good stage - my tip is still Contador. Pity I just can't warm to either Schlek or the skinny Spaniard, but then heaps of cyclists don't like cuddles so I guess it comes down to personality and I like Cadel cause he wears his heart on his sleeve. Pity Jens is not a GC contender, then I'd really have somebody to cheer for.

Stage 10:
umm I missed this except for the highlights .. looked like a good stage for the breakaway. Fantastic shots of the peloton descending towards Gap! Talk about a scary road to ride down with all those people.

Image

All that way and it was this close at the finish
Image

Stage 11:
Well bad boy Mark Renshaw has been thrown out of the tour for head butting ... it didn't look to bad to me but he sure did move over on Farrar after Cav let fly.

Cycling fans cheer on the bunch

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Renshaw is gone?!!!
i was half asleep, looking at my phone reading a comment by Stuart about head butting i had written last night, when i though it said he has been kicked off?! that woke me up strait away?!! no way?! hes may fave rider along side Jens Voidt?!!! But yeah, it looked like a full on head butt, theother guy was totally riding into him though. What does this mean for Cav? Mark is the best lead out man out there right now!

"Une course cycliste n'est pas un ring. Mark Renshaw l'a vraisemblablement oublié dans le final de cette 11e étape du Tour de France finalement revenue à son équipier, Mark Cavendish. Le coureur australien risque d'être déclassé."

I guess its the only way to truly punish, as now Cavendish doesn't have his leadout man

The punishments are not very consistent at this tour. Surely Dean should have been penalised for not holding his line, which in turn required Renshaw to fend him off with his head. I agree Renshaw didn't hold a straight sprint after Cavendish went past, but surely that's just a fine and relegation.

I guess the only option now is for HTC to beat all the other sprinters up with their bikes, only costs 300EUR to do that!! :?

One more thing, Farrar removed his hand from the bars, so surely he should be penalised too.

Stage 12: Contador takes some time away but I'm happy he didn't get the stage. Not a classic days racing really.

Image

Stage 13: Vinokourov the drug cheat wins it - he, like all drug cheats should have been banned for life. Cuddles only 13" back. End comment.

Obligatory sunflower shot.
Image

Stage 14:
A very bad day for cuddles and a fantastic ride from Christophe Riblon to win it - all class and he seemed very happy about it too!

Stage 15: Well, well - should he or shouldn't he have waited? I say no - that's racing. They certainly didn't wait for cuddles at the Vuelta last year when he flatted and lost 1' 30" while the "neutral" service guy stuffed up the wheel change and lost Cadel his chance to win a grand tour. One thing I don't believe is that Contador didn't know Schleck's chain was off but then Sanchez & Menchov weren't going to stop either now were they? Great show of strength from Thomas Voeckler to win the stage too.

Cuddles doesn't look too happy after dropping another 7' or so - looks like riding the Giro wasn't such a great idea after all ....
Image

Oh, and look where Contador was when AS lost his chain - and he didn't notice - must be Special Spanish Blindness ....

and Schleck says "why wouldn't you do any work on the front to help my chase back (and your GC standings) instead of just sitting on my wheel you Belgian son-of-a-bi*ch!"

The lotto guy did some helping him, he was on the front for bits of it.

I dunno what to say about it all, it makes it all heaps more exciting with the swaps in the jersy!! how good did schleck look in the chase up the hill after the chain hey! im thinkin andy has it in the mountains, i dont know if he will win, but i think he looks good on the hills!

Yeah, staying in front of Contador on a big hill would take some doing! "Hang on Mate, I'll tow you up" Hahaha...

Barring worse tragedies than a dropped chain, I suspect the final time trial will determine the outcome.
Even tho' Andy looked good after the chain thing, Contador's style, esp out of the saddle is just beautiful to watch.
Much as I admire the Schlecks (and is Andy getting a little arrogant??), my money is on Contador.

I'm hoping for a big attack from Angry Andy. He had Contador dropped before his chain couldn't take it. Van den Broeck was just trying to hang onto Andy's wheel for most of the chase, and he didn't seem the best descender which is why he only got to the front when it flattened out a bit.

All i know is the next 2 stages should be great to watch!!!

Ha, ha,

Did anyone see all the mad Aussies running around on between the Col Solour and Abisque?

One dude was in his Hawthorne outfit. Gi has competition for the future.

I saw the grassy noll twice where Therese and I sat on in 2005! Our first rider coming up the Abisque was Lotto's number 44 Cadel Evans. I hadn't even heard of him before that moment. (He moved into, and stayed into 8th place). It was the same grassy noll we got the terrible text through from a DHBC rider on poor Amy Gillett (same day).

Interview with Jens Voight after his crash last night. I like his sense of humour:

The poor Jens needs to wear one of those grid iron helmets with the bars as a personal roll cage.

http://www.bicycling.com/tour-de-france ... -sag-wagon

this is the story of Jens getting a little yellow bike to ride on, as his was broken, and he made it back to finish the stage!!!

"Finally, the race organizers got me a bike, but it was this little yellow junior bike. It was way too small for me and even had old-fashioned toe-clip pedals. But that is the only way I could get down the mountain, so I had to ride it for like 15-20 kilometers until I finally got to a team car with my bike. "

That is a fair bit of blood on that motorbike!!

As for Jens bike, Mavic must have gone with a one size fits all approach for the neutral spares.

That's very good T-Bone. I kept expecting them to say it was an Australian driver who got lost!

Thanks for the 'Sky' link too Timbo, wouldn't it be great to have a club bus like that. A whole new dimension to a supported ride!
