Good luck Juilo,
I'm a big fan of open water swimming although I'm very very bad at it. I find the upper body and back work out a great balance to my cycling.
I've done the Cole Classic and the Balmoral oceanswim a few times but I might enter some of these as well.
cheers
Adrian

The race went exactly how I had planed it. I got a great start and turned the first bouy in about 10th, got passed by around 4 people from the first bouy to the second and none from the second to the third, some bloke then took it upon himself to then try and over take me in the last 100m but the competitive juices kicked in and I kicked past him then surfed a wave onto the beach where I outsprinted him to the line (take that hairy man) my gf tried to call out to me as I exited the water but all I could see was the finish line so she got a photo of my backside as I passed her lol.
Great race and I can't wait for the next....bring on wedding cake island.

Well done Jules!! I would be doing the wedding cakeThe race went exactly how I had planed it. Were you the "hairy man" in Julio's shadow?Well done Jules!! I would be doing the wedding cake
Me, i'd cycle out, do the wedding cake swim and then cycle home again. I don't know if it's still the same, but the Nepean run leg is a bitch. Straight up the side of the escarpment and then back down. The down bit is where a bad knee will go on you...

At the end of a simply perfect day today, Clovelly swimmer Graham Brewer said to us, "At last, Coogee shows what it has to offer..." It was just the perfect day. Gentle breeze at the outset, turning direction during the 1km swim to come from the nor'-west, so we're into it coming back from the island. But the swells, what swells there were, still picked us up, threw us forward into the breeze, and we kept coming. There was a little current out the back, not much, and not much compared with what Coogee can turn on out the back of the island.
And what about those jelly blubbers behind the island! Like swimming through half-set jelly. Surreal. It was a Dali swim. But they gave you something to grab.
Our only complaint, and we make it every year: we hate conical booeys. When you're a swimmer, you need to see the fat part of the booeys. But with conical booeys, the fat part is at the bottom, and from the water, you just can't see it. The rest of the booeys, all the way up to the fine sharpened tips, are useless completely. At least they're better than the Bondi-Bronte booeys, which not only are conical, but also coloured either white or mauve. Go figure.
And the booeys were set a long way out from the island. We know the Coogee people have an eye for safety, and they otherwise run a very good swim. But it would be nice to get closer to the island.
But what a luvverly day. And we got home, tired but...

I think you really liked those blue jelly fishes aruond the island. I was freaking out swimming on top of them. Many swimmers got stung and the first aid was busy bringing ice to treat them at the finish.from http://oceanswims.blogspot.com/

I spent next two hours screaming like a pig due to the chaffing rashes in mi armpits. aaaaAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAaaaaa!!
Jules... oceanswim.org doesn't have link to bondi to bronte online registration site. The online entries close at 8pm tonight. There are already more than 1000 competitors registered. Cost $40 online. $50 on the race dayNext one on the list Bondi to Bronti. 2.4k this sunday
After last weeks effort I am looking for a solid 40-42min race this week.
Here's the link:

Today’s swim was a cracker. Picked Gi up early so that we could get a park before the hoards descended upon the golden shore that is Bondi, walking down the main drag for a light breaky pre-race. Coffee'd up we stomped our way down to the 2 to 3 ft swell coming in on the making tide Gi took this moment to express his fear of waves, then told me he had only been in the ocean 10 times before this swim. On hearing this I dragged him out to the nearest shore break and proceeded to throw him down the next wave, watching his expression as he flew down the face towards the beach hehe.
I lined up to the right of the start line where the bigger waves were breaking thinking my clubby experience would help get out the back in a good position and I was right. I rounded the first buoy with around 15 people in front of me so I went about finding a set of legs to draft off and almost straight away I found what I needed. It was at the first turning buoy I had this chick in a black cossie swim over the top of me whilst trying to claw my skin off, rip my togs off and kick me in the head so in return I used her legs as a bunny and I followed her for pretty much the whole race. At around Tamarama I took stock of where I was in the race and found that I was in an awesome position with around 30 people in front of me.
It was in this moment of bliss where I punched a jellyfish. That’s right a jellyfish the size of a hubcap was just floating there minding its own business when a tiny human arm decided to punch it good and proper. Up to my armpit in jelly before I knew what I had done my arm instantly started to tingle, then hurt, then hurt really bad, so bad I thought I was going to stop. But this is a race and you can’t stop in a race. I paid good money to compete in this bloody event and pain will not stop me from finishing in a good time.
With my elbow swelling and my breathing laboured I continued up to the last turning buoy where the squeeze starts. The squeeze for those who don’t know is the last turning buoy back to the beach, usually set at a tight right angle. I fought my way round this buoy with the energy of an epileptic windup bath toy to set myself up with a straight run back to the beach. Again my clubby experience kept me in good steed as I came home with a wet sail, jumping on little runs all the way back to the break line where I picked up a macker of a wave which took me over the top of dozens of people and almost all the way to the beach. I ran up the beach again overtaking people until I collapsing in a heap over the line feeling every bit of my age group.

Haa! Haa! haa!
Jules punched a jelly! Animals rights violated!
Mate, wot did I say on our way to Bondi? Wot did I say
Well, wotever I said, it's not important as Jules' reply. He said if you can't see them, they are not there. Nothing to worry about. And Jules poked through the bladder of a jelly
hope you recover soon from the stings.
btw, do you know wot was the distance? I think I did it in 42 min, whereas it took me 55min to do the 2.4km c0ogee wedding cake island. Just wondering whether it was smaller distance or I was faster or both?
Also, the schools of fish and the bed rock were mind blowing. I am glad I did this swim.

Race Results are out:
Julian Stockwell 35min 23sec, category rank 116. It's a good result considering there were all in all more than 2000 competitors and Julian went playing with the jelly fish in the middle of his swim. But don't know why Julian though there are only 30 people ahead of him?! Guess they replicated near the finish line or something :p
Gi Singh 42 min 36sec, category rank 178. I think I went faster than the c0ogee wedding cake island swim.

This is probably the largest ocean swim of the season, with more than 4000 swimers competed last year across 1km and 2km distances. If you enter by tomorrow, you save $10 on entry fee.
I have already registered.

I had to google what a quartile is- A quartile is any of the three values which divide the sorted data set into four equal parts, so that each part represents one fourth of the sampled population.116/428! Mate you are pretty much in the top quartile despite the jelly fish.

I want to do both 1km and 2km swim this Sunday (costs $45)
Any takers for one or both of the swims?

Sorry G,
Bad timing I've just done a couple over the Chrissy Break and last week at Newport wasn't that pleasant in the rain so I'm going to have a break for a while,
but remember you have to do at least three to qualify for the Hann Challenge series.
Good luck.
