Over coffee Toff, Marc and myself hatched a plan for a vintage bike ride. A route hasn't been decided, but it will probably be one of the classic 19th Century club rides (ie out to Botany or La Perouse, or whatever). Start is the Marrickville Rd Cafe. Fairly gentle pace, mostly avoiding hills so a single-speed or fixie should be fine.

Requirements:
A steel bike (exceptions made for Vitus and Alan bonded aluminium bikes)
A sense of humour
A moustache*

So if you've got a vintage bike that needs some exercise book the date in. We're hoping to make this a regular ride, so don't fret if you can't make this date.

*Moustache not compulsory

Exceptions will also be granted for anyone who has a Caminade Caminargent. (French aluminium bike with octagonal tubes from the 1930s, which predates Colnago's octagonal tubesets by a good 50 years!) I will also personally buy you lunch if you bring one!

Just a reminder. 6.30am at the Marrickville coffee shop tomorrow morning.

General consensus is a trip to La Perouse would be nice.

There is a poor neglected bike in our laundry that belongs to my flattie. She has a new(ugly) cell. I will bring her old one for a spin. If someone brings a moustache I will wear it :)

oh and don't judge me on the rusty/dirty state of the bike cause it's not mine and I won't have time for bike maintenance AND park picnic this arvo

The La Perouse ride is okay with me, but I thought it might be nice to ride down to Bondi, and maybe have a coffee there overlooking the beach before heading back.

Just an idea...

Maybe we could have a vote before leaving?

Anyway see you all there.

I had a great time. Friendly people and lovely bikes. Can't get better than that. Thanks to Lindsay, Johnj, Toff, Scully and especially Matthew and Roger. Roger came all the way from the Northern Beaches, and Matthew from somewhere closer to home.

I'd have taken a picture at Bondi, but was too busy repairing a flat.

A majority of bikes had toeclips/straps and a majority also had centrepull brakes (probably for the first time in a DHBC bunch since 1975).

I had the only cottered cranks and the only moustache. I also had the only flat and the only mechanical (dropped the chain on Syd Einfeld Drive  )

Sorry I couldn't be there. Long story. Well done!
