Entries are now open for the Convict 100, St Albans, 3 May 2014

http://www.maxadventure.com.au/convict100/entry.html

Elite 100km - $140
Standard 100km - $130
Standard 50km - $100

A few of us from DHBC entered last year.

The 50 is not too technical but with one big climb.

The 100 is more challenging and includes a crossing of the river on a bridge made from planks and canoes.

Great race and well organised.

Entries generally sell out.

Am signed up for the 50 - loved it last year, but a bit sad you only get to do the river bridge in the 100!

Hi Ken,

no Dulwich Hill rider has ever fallen off that wrenched bridge in the history of the event. So you'll be right!!

I'm in for the 100km.

Cheers, Lindsay

David Os and I are both in for the 50.

Was fun last year, especially the beer at the finish line. Suddenly all the aches and pains disappeared

Lindsay - how does the 100 compare to the Husky? Is it more technical?

Hi Richard,

in terms of a comparison I would say it's about the same. The Convict 100 is a little more al la naturale in the obstacles one must traverse along the way. There's a couple of bits I pay a fair amount of respect to for what I see as a potential to wipe out on, such as the concrete stepped decent on what I think is Gorricks Run at about the 90km mark. Also the rock garden just before the canoe bridge.

The thing that does characterize it for me is the climbing after the canoe bridge, there's about 10km of it... Just when one is starting to feel rather toasted it's up, up, up.

I'm going to camp on Friday evening, we'll need to make a hard deal for meeting up if we'd like to share a meal together as there's no phone coverage in St Albans... One can't just ring up one's associates & say "can you see me... I'm standing next to the registration tent waving my arms".

Cheers,

Lindsay

Hi Guys,

I'll hopefully be arriving about 5pm & hopefully I'll get myself a premium camping spot... If so I'll be camping somewhere in front of the pub (now that's a plan...). Look for a small white van & you'll find me. Dinner about 7pm would be good if anyone's interested.

Cheers,

Lindsay

Hi all - First time poster, long time lurker. It was good to meet a couple of you on the start line of the 50km.. apologies, names escape me already! I'll be much more diligent to see whether other DHBCers are doing MTB races in future

I did a brief write up of my race over on nobmob: http://nobmob.com/node/46945

Hope to see a few others out again soon!
