Guys,

Will be heading on family trip very soon to France and Italia. Family have banned me taking a bike.

So I figure that doesn't rule me out from hiring one there a day here or there.

Does anyone have any experience or information? What do I need to take apart from niks and jersey and shoes. Do they provide pedals or do I take them as a well? What about helmet hire?

Any idea of price (25 Euros a day I think)

Might be best to take pedals with the shoes just in case they're required. Not really sure about anything else.

My parents left for Europe this morning, so maybe you'll bump into them somewhere....

I've done the bike hire thing in Spain and Denmark but never with a proper road bike. My guess is that there would fewer shops offering them as most go for the larger tourist/recreational cyclist so I'd try to do some research before going. I found one place when googling, but there based in southern france

Yeah, was speaking with them. They arrive in Paris on our last night there so we might just miss them.

Was at Heffron Park today (race cancelled) and the RBCC guys are about to head off to Italy and Sardinia for a tour. Before about 25 of them group up in Sardinia there are smaller numbers including Rocky, Bucko and families touring from Venice down to Florence for three days.

We arrive in a Villa on a Vineyard with 22 of our own friends about 25 kms away from Florence on the same day RBCC arrives in Florence.

So there could be a bit of club relations going on in Florence!

Dale, from RBCC, i hiring his bike in Sardinia for the tour. He is doing that to avoid the hassle of transporting bikes.

Not sure on the cost but i think he mentioned 200 euros for the two weeks. It is for a decent road bike.

He organised from here in Aus so must be info on the net somewhere.

Thanks Beanzy,

I was actually speaking with Dale yesterday at Heffron and he mentioned the bike rental.

I'm sort of thinking maybe grabbing a bike for a day or two here. I have to manage the rest of the family and their holiday............

A colleague from work used these guys and highly recommends them. They deliver to you in France for an extra charge. Also rent bike carriers.

The CASATI La Route du Ventoux & the SCOTT CR1 Team are E40 / day or E200 / week. A SCOTT Speedster S40 is E30 / day or E/150 / week.

Jo & I are looking at using them for our 2009 trip so if you get other info relating to France and bicycle rentals let us know!

You should only have to take your shoes and nicks really - the bikes can be fitted with whatever pedal type you want. I'm not sure about helmets - we took our own this year.
